Background: Rosai Dorfman Disease (RDD, also known as sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy) is a rare non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis, classified into nodal (classic) and extranodal disease. Most patients present with non-tender cervical lymphadenopathy, although other sites including the inguinal and axillary regions have been reported. Extranodal disease (~43% of cases) can involve any organ system. RDD is more common in children, but cases have been reported in patients in their 70s. The prognosis of nodal RDD can correlate with the number of nodal groups involved. Many cases can be managed only with observation, although surgery, chemotherapy, corticosteroids, and immunomodulators have …

BACKGROUND: Although trichorhinophalangeal syndrome type 1 (TRPS1) was initially thought to be highly sensitive and specific for carcinomas and mesenchymal tumors of mammary origin, more recent data suggest its expression is not limited to breast neoplasms but also can be seen in other cutaneous neoplasms, such as extramammary Paget disease and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in situ.

Introduction. Primary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the colon is a rare histological subtype of CRC with poor prognosis. It most frequently occurs in the right colon, and least commonly in the sigmoid colon. Similar CRC symptoms no matter the subtype can range from asymptomatic to rectal bleeding, abdominal pain, change in bowel habits, and weight loss. Here, we describe a case of primary basaloid SCC of the sigmoid colon.

Introduction: A pilomyxoid astrocytoma is a rare type of brain tumor that primarily affects young children, typically arising in the hypothalamic-suprasellar region of the brain. Unlike pilocytic astrocytoma, PMA is characterized by a more aggressive clinical course and distinct histopathological features, including a monomorphic cell population, angiocentric arrangement, and a myxoid background.

Background: The current guidelines of the American society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and College of American Pathologists (CAP) regarding laboratory testing of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and HER-2 in breast cancer have been in place since 2010. Optimal tissue handling requires a cold ischemic time of less than 1 hour and a formalin fixation time between 6 and 72 hours. In July 2023 HCA Westside hospital implemented a new Formalin Fixation Time documentation protocol. The data is presented quarterly at the Cancer Committee meeting.

Introduction: Ossifying fibromas (OF) and central giant cell granulomas (CGCG) are benign lesions of the jaw. The presence of a hybrid lesion consisting of OF and CGCG is exceedingly rare.

Case summary: A 28-year-old male presented with complaints of nasal congestion and loud snoring worsening over six months. CT scan revealed a 2.2 x 1.5 x 1.2 cm radiolucent lesion involving the right maxillary sinus. During endoscopic sinus excision, a friable light tan and hemorrhagic lesion was seen occupying the right maxillary sinus with underlying bone destruction. Intraoperative pathology evaluation revealed no malignancy.

Introduction: Solitary Fibrous Tumor (SFT) is rare, especially in locations outside the pleura, and it can mimic benign mesenchymal tumors. Misdiagnosis, leading to inadequate treatment, can increase the risk of metastasis and recurrence. Dedifferentiated SFT (DD-SFT), is the most aggressive subtype.

Case Summary: A 45-year-old male presented with a rapidly growing, non-painful, palpable, exophytic right thigh mass. CT revealed an 8 x 7.4 x 7.0 cm heterogenous mass abutting the underlying muscle. ncreased breast cancer (BC) mortality risk posed by delayed surgical resection of tumor after diagnosis is a growing concern, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. Our cohort analyses of early-stage BC patients reveal the emergence of a significantly rising mortality risk when the biopsy-to-surgery interval was extended beyond 53 days. Additionally, histology of post-biopsy tumors shows prolonged retention of a metastasis-permissive wound stroma dominated by M2-like macrophages capable of promoting cancer cell epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and angiogenesis. Compared with high-grade serous carcinoma, low-grade serous carcinoma of the ovary or peritoneum is a less frequent epithelial ovarian cancer type that is poorly sensitive to chemotherapy and affects younger women, many of whom endure years of ineffective treatments and poor quality of life. Our objective was to test whether p53 expression status is associated with survival for women diagnosed with the most common ovarian carcinoma histotypes (high-grade serous carcinoma [HGSC], endometrioid carcinoma [EC], and clear cell carcinoma [CCC]) using a large multi-institutional cohort from the Ovarian Tumor Tissue Analysis (OTTA) consortium. p53 expression was assessed on 6,678 cases represented on tissue microarrays from 25 participating OTTA study sites using a previously validated immunohistochemical (IHC) assay as a surrogate for the presence and functional effect of TP53 mutations. It is exceedingly rare to find a case of bilateral synchronous germ cell testicular tumors of different histological types, and there have been only a handful of cases because of a lack of connections through lymphatic or vascular pathways between the testes. Here we present a unique case of a 43-year-old man who initially presented to the primary care physician for increasing right testicular swelling. He had a testicular sonogram that showed a large right testicular mass as well as a 1.7 cm left testicular mass suspicious of malignancy. BACKGROUND: The data on metastatic tumors to the pancreas diagnosed by fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy is limited. We report our experience of FNA of primary and secondary pancreatic tumors emphasizing metastatic breast cancer in the pancreas.

METHOD: Total 274 cases of pancreatic FNA in 10 years were retrospectively reviewed. Literature review of metastatic breast cancers to the pancreas was performed.

RESULTS: Out of the 274 cases, 7 (7/274, 2.6%) cases were non-diagnostic, 46 (46/274, 16.8%) cases were negative for malignancy, and 40 (40/274, 14.6%) cases were under the category of atypical cells. There were 133 (133/274, 48.5%) cases diagnosed …

Introduction: Medulloblastoma (MB) is an embryonal central nervous system (CNS) tumor located in the posterior cranial fossa. Medulloblastoma is one of the most common malignant pediatric brain tumors, accounts for 25% of all pediatric intracranial tumors, but rare in adults; and constitute 0.4%-1% of adult primary brain tumors. The incidence of medulloblastomas in adults is approximately 0.5 per million per year and decreases with age with male predominance. Solitary fibrous tumour (SFT) is a ubiquitous benign mesenchymal tumour of fibroblastic origin, which occurs most often in middle-aged adults. It usually presents as lung mass originating from pleura, but extrapleural occurrence is also common. Tumour is characterised by hypo- and hyper-cellular areas of spindle-shaped cells, arranged in haphazard manner with dispersed staghorn-shaped vessels. Surgical excision is the curative treatment. SFTs of the primary testicular or paratesticular region are extremely rare, but they exhibit histologic findings similar to SFTs originating at other body sites. Goblet cell carcinoid of the appendix is a rare neoplasm with histological features of both neuroendocrine and adenocarcinomas. The combination of its aggressive behavior, infrequent occurrence, and variable clinical presentation convolutes the management of this tumor. We report the case of a 75-year-old female presenting with acute appendicitis. A laparoscopic appendectomy was performed. The pathology report showed goblet cell carcinoid at the base of the appendix with involvement of the proximal surgical margins. Hepatoblastoma (HB) is the most common malignant liver tumor in children. Although survival of patients has improved significantly over the last 2 decades, a significant number of patients do not respond to standard chemotherapy. We conducted a pilot study to understand if there was immunophenotypic difference between tumors that respond well to chemotherapy versus that do not. Ovarian immature teratoma is a germ cell tumor that comprises less than 1% of ovarian cancers and is treated with surgical debulking and chemotherapy depending on stage. Growing teratoma syndrome (GTS) is the phenomenon of the growth of mature teratoma elements with normal tumor markers during or following chemotherapy for treatment of a malignant germ cell tumor. These tumors are associated with significant morbidity and mortality due to invasive and compressive growth as well as potential for malignant transformation.
