INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to qualitatively investigate and compare male and female experiences of infertility in the context of social support.

METHODS: A Qualtrics survey (Qualtrics, Provo, Utah, United States) was posted to online fertility support groups and the responses were thematically analyzed. Only participants that completed the qualitative component of the survey were included in the study. Responses were subsequently thematically analyzed.

RESULTS: A sample of 110 participants (13 males and 97 females) were included in the present study. Thematic analyses revealed that isolation and loneliness, stigma, sentiments of misunderstanding, insensitive reactions, and others' unhelpful attempts …

Objective The purpose of this study is to examine whether there are gender differences in the level of perceived social support in couples experiencing issues with fertility. Methods A total of 938 participants aged 18-47 years, with self-reported issues of infertility, were evaluated using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) which comprises three subscales which correspond with distinct sources of social support: significant other (SO), family, and friends. Differences between sexes for total score and for all subscale scores were subsequently analyzed using SPSS Statistics (IBM Corp, Armonk, USA). We report a case of a 45-year-old male who presented to the Emergency Department with acute onset left testicular pain and was diagnosed with left sided segmental testicular infarction. The differential diagnosis of acute onset testicular/scrotal pain can include critical urological diagnoses such as testicular torsion and testicular tumors. In the absence of global flow disruption on ultrasound Doppler, emergent surgical intervention is not needed. While ultrasound aids in the Emergency Department’s management of acute testicular pain, it does not rule out the need for an additional outpatient work-up or imaging. Renal cysts are common, and their frequency and size increase as patients age. Renal cysts are derived primarily from tubules and can occur anywhere between Bowman’s capsule to the renal papilla. The cysts are composed of abnormally differentiated epithelial cells encapsulating a cavity of fluid. These abnormally differentiated cells are due to defects in the structure and function of cilia, the structures responsible for detecting urine flow as well as the epithelial composition of the epithelial architecture and repair. Liposarcoma (LS), a malignant tumor of adipose origin, is the most common soft tissue sarcoma (STS), and can develop within any soft tissue. It rarely occurs in the paratesticular region, and accounts for 3-7% of spermatic cord tumors. Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLS) and well-differentiated liposarcoma (WDLS) account for two of the five subtypes of LS, with dedifferentiation occurring in 20% of cases. There have been 66 cases of DDLS of the spermatic cord reported to date, but none present with a 22/22q trisomy without the fusion or rearrangement that commonly produces these aggressive tumors.

Urinary problems are common complaints in the Emergency Department and can present with any combination of lower urinary tract symptoms such as dysuria, hematuria, urgency, frequency, incontinence, or retention. We describe the case of a 77-year-old male who presented to the Emergency Department for five days of worsening dysuria. Two days prior, the patient was seen and evaluated for the same chief complaint, where he received intravenous antibiotics and was admitted to the hospital overnight for observation. The following day, the patient’s urinalysis and cultures were not consistent with a urinary tract infection (UTI) and was subsequently discharged without antibiotics. …

Prostate cancer is the leading malignancy and third most common cause of cancer death among men. In the United States, racial disparities exist in prostate cancer incidence and mortality rates. According to the National Cancer Institute, African American (AA) men have a significantly increased incidence of prostate cancer compared to Caucasians or Asians. Urinary leak at the urethrovesical anastomosis has been cited as a complication of radical prostatectomy (RP), with incidence rates as high as 23%. Bladder cancer represents the 6th most common for men and is classified into muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) and non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). NMIBC (T1, Ta, Tis), accounting for approximately 75% of new bladder cancer diagnoses, is limited to the mucosa, submucosa, and lamina propria. Studies have approximated the rate of recurrence in NMIBC between 50 - 70%, which sometimes progresses to muscle invasive disease. Management of NMIBC ranges from surveillance, intravesical chemotherapy to radical cystectomy (RC) and is dependent upon the TNM staging and grading of the tumor. Scrotal edema is not an uncommon presentation in emergency medicine. We describe the case of a 58-year-old male with no prior medical history who presented to the emergency department (ED) due to progressive scrotal edema. The patient noted increased painless testicular enlargement, dry cough, and dyspnea on exertion over the course of several weeks. Scrotal edema was evaluated by an Ultrasound (US), showing bilateral testicular edema with concern for congestive heart failure (CHF). The most common site of prostate metastasis is bone (84%), lymph node (10.6%), liver (10.2%), and thorax (9.1%), with 18.4% to multiple metastatic sites [1]. Ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy is routinely used to remove stones but results in manipulation of the genitourinary mucosa and has a well-established relationship with post-operative sepsis under certain conditions. Postoperative sepsis represents a significant morbidity and mortality cost to patients and the healthcare system. Several studies to determine risk factors for sepsis after ureteroscopy have been completed. Such risk factors include positive preoperative urine cultures, female gender, prolonged preoperative stent time > 1 month, and patients with sepsis at the time of initial stenting. The purpose of our study is to assess the effects of the USPSTF grade D recommendation for PSA based screening on new PCa diagnoses within a large-community based private practice setting. Amiodarone has a well-established and extensive side effect profile: pulmonary fibrosis, thyroid toxicity, corneal deposits, skin discoloration. However, in some rare instance, epididymitis/orchitis is a side effect of amiodarone. Amiodarone toxicity was first studied in (1, 2) Symptoms range from testicular pain to swelling and erythema (1,2) The mechanism of how this toxicity occurs is unknown. In this case report, we will discuss the case of an elderly patient who developed epididymitis and orchitis after several years of tolerating amiodarone without any adverse events. Protein Phosphatase 2A (PP2A) is a tumor suppressor involved in the regulation of several signaling pathways and the cell cycle. PP2A becomes inactivated by several inhibitors, including Cancerous Inhibitor of PP2A (CIP2A). CIP2A has been identified as an oncogene, which is over-expressed in cancers and inhibits PP2A through direct interaction. CIP2A is recognized as a biomarker for cancer; however, it is not cancer-specific. Therefore, we identified and examined the use of CIP2A-regulated proteins as potential biomarkers in prostate cancer to better diagnose prostate cancer in patients.
