Female genital tract infections (FGTIs) include vaginal infections (e.g., bacterial vaginosis [BV]), endometritis, pelvic inflammatory disease [PID], and chorioamnionitis [amniotic fluid infection]. They commonly occur in women of reproductive age and are strongly associated with multiple adverse health outcomes including increased risk of HIV/sexually transmitted infection acquisition and transmission, infertility, and adverse birth outcomes such as preterm birth. These FGTIs are characterized by a disruption of the cervicovaginal microbiota which largely affects host immunity through the loss of protective, lactic acid-producing spp. and the overgrowth of facultative and strict anaerobic bacteria. species (spp.), anaerobic Gram-negative rods, are implicated in the …

Objective:

To evaluate cervical cancer screening modalities and assess the reasoning that has led to primary HPV being the preferred target for screening.

Background:

History of HPV infection has been found to be correlated with cervical cancer precursor cells. Early detection of the infection is advantageous in decreasing the risk for women of reproductive age acquiring cervical cancer. The general consensus places an emphasis on implementing HPV testing in accordance with cervical cancer protocol.

BACKGROUND: Affecting 2-4% of pregnancies, pre-eclampsia is a leading cause of maternal death and morbidity worldwide. Using routinely available data, we aimed to develop and validate a novel machine learning-based and clinical setting-responsive time-of-disease model to rule out and rule in adverse maternal outcomes in women presenting with pre-eclampsia.

METHODS: We used health system, demographic, and clinical data from the day of first assessment with pre-eclampsia to predict a Delphi-derived composite outcome of maternal mortality or severe morbidity within 2 days. Introduction: Pessaries are a non-invasive treatment option for patients with pelvic organ prolapse (POP) or stress urinary incontinence (SUI). There is currently limited data regarding pessary usage among urology patients. The aim of this study is to determine the patient characteristics that predict long term pessary usage versus surgical intervention.

Introduction and Objective: Metro Detroit holds ~13% of all Arabic speakers in the U.S.A. and 91% of those in Michigan. Evidence supports that patients who do not speak the local language have poor access to healthcare. This study describes our preliminary experience of managing Arabic only speaking women with bothersome stress urinary incontinence (SUI) from May 2022 to October 2023. These women routinely request same-sex interpreters, which is not always possible, leading to a lack of detailed translation. A potential solution is to use Arabic written medical information (AWMI). Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), caused by is characterized by aberrant inflammation by polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) in the vaginal lumen. Data from the established murine model shows that despite potent antifungal properties, PMNs fail to clear due to local heparan sulfate that inhibits the interaction between PMNs and , resulting in chronic vaginal immunopathology. To understand the role of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in defense against at the vaginal mucosa, we investigated the NET-forming capacity of PMNs in chronic VVC-susceptible (CVVC-S/C3H) and -resistant (CVVC-R/CD-1) mouse strains. NCDs may increase the risk of preterm birth (PTB), caesarean section (CS), and low birthweight. The significance of this case report is to give a presentation of a patient presenting with intrauterine gas who subsequently was found to have neither infectious nor malignant cause for such finding. Cesarean Scar Pregnancy results from pathologic implantation of a gestational sac into a hysterotomy scar. This rare disease continues to increase in incidence due to the rise of Cesarean delivery in the United States. Current management recommendations by the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine (SMFM) include termination of pregnancy, or in rare instances, hysterectomy. Introduction. Cystic neutrophilic granulomatous mastitis (CNGM) is an uncommon subtype of granulomatous mastitis (GM) affecting young to middle-aged parous women. Although there is no universally accepted diagnostic criteria, CNGM has a highly distinct histological pattern characterized by suppurative lipogranulomas composed of central lipid vacuoles rimmed by neutrophils with an outer cuff of epithelioid histiocytes.

Case 1: 42-year-old recently pregnant woman with a history of left breast mastitis and abscess treated with incision and drainage (I&D) six months prior, presented with contralateral right breast mastitis with abscess without improvement on oral antibiotics. Objective: This guideline project focused on creating a screening guideline for T. vaginalis that would benefit healthcare providers in a correctional healthcare setting for incarcerated females entering the facility.

Methods: A literature review was conducted. The PubMed and MEDLINE search engines, were used to obtain medical, biomedical and life sciences literature, and CINAHL for nursing and allied health resources, Governmental agency sites, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), were also explored. Guideline recommendations were extrapolated from the literature review, and then rated by, stakeholders.
