A Case Report And Evaluation Of Intrauterine Gas Of Unknown Origin, Chrystal Stallworth, Diane Gilbertson, Timothy Kremer

North Texas GME Research Forum 2024

Introduction: Most reports of intrauterine or endometrial gas have been reported in the setting of underlying gynecologic malignancy or infection. The significance of this case report is to give a presentation of a patient presenting with intrauterine gas who subsequently was found to have neither infectious nor malignant cause for such finding. Case Presentation: Patient is a 56 year old postmenopausal female who presenting with “hip pain” and was found to have incidental intrauterine gas on pelvic CT. Four Cesarean Scar Pregnancies Managed At Accreta Center Of Excellence At Medical City Dallas Hospital: A Case Series, Ana Adams, Nicole Tenzel, Monica Rodriguez, Robert Cohen

North Texas GME Research Forum 2024

Cesarean Scar Pregnancy results from pathologic implantation of a gestational sac into a hysterotomy scar. This rare disease continues to increase in incidence due to the rise of Cesarean delivery in the United States. Current management recommendations by the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine (SMFM) include termination of pregnancy, or in rare instances, hysterectomy. This case series examines four patients diagnosed with Cesarean Scar Pregnancies that either declined termination or were unable to receive abortion services in the first trimester, and who were managed at the Accreta Center of Excellence at Medical City Dallas Hospital. This novel management strategy included …

Cystic Neutrophilic Granulomatous Mastitis With Corynebacterium And Pseudomonas Species: A Comparison, Astrid Sacasa, Mohtashim Naeem, Susana Ferra

East Florida Division GME Research Day 2024

Introduction. Cystic neutrophilic granulomatous mastitis (CNGM) is an uncommon subtype of granulomatous mastitis (GM) affecting young to middle-aged parous women. Although there is no universally accepted diagnostic criteria, CNGM has a highly distinct histological pattern characterized by suppurative lipogranulomas composed of central lipid vacuoles rimmed by neutrophils with an outer cuff of epithelioid histiocytes.

Case 1: 42-year-old recently pregnant woman with a history of left breast mastitis and abscess treated with incision and drainage (I&D) six months prior, presented with contralateral right breast mastitis with abscess without improvement on oral antibiotics. Histologic examination revealed CNGM, with Corynebacterium identified on Gram …

51-Year-Old Female With Epistaxis And Generalized Weakness For 2 Months Diagnosed With Rpgn, Meihuan Lin Apr 2023

51-Year-Old Female With Epistaxis And Generalized Weakness For 2 Months Diagnosed With Rpgn, Meihuan Lin

North Texas GME Research Forum 2023

Rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN)’s clinical presentation including acute onset of macroscopic hematuria, decreased urine output, acute onset of hypertension, and edema. Other clinical findings include nephritis presentation on urine analysis with proteinuria, micro and macroscopic hematuria, red blood cells, dysmorphic RBC and RBC casts. Pathological findings characterized extensive crescent formation. Untreated patients can rapidly progress to end-stage kidney disease over a very short periods (days to months). Renal biopsy can further differentiate the types of crescentic glomerulonephritis. There are three major types of RPGN: 1. Anti-glomerular basement membrane (GBM) disease cause by anti-GBM antibodies. It is also associated with pulmonary …

Platelets In Preeclamptic Pregnancies Fail To Exhibit The Decrease In Mitochondrial Oxygen Consumption Rate Seen In Normal Pregnancies, Joseph Kim, Andrew Malinow, Rosemary Schuh Apr 2023

Platelets In Preeclamptic Pregnancies Fail To Exhibit The Decrease In Mitochondrial Oxygen Consumption Rate Seen In Normal Pregnancies, Joseph Kim, Andrew Malinow, Rosemary Schuh

North Texas GME Research Forum 2023

Cellular oxygen consumption and lactate production rates have been measured in both placental and myometrial cells to study obstetrics-related disease states such as preeclampsia. Platelet metabolic alterations indicate systemic bioenergetic changes that can be useful as disease biomarkers. We tested the hypothesis that platelet mitochondria display functional alterations in preeclampsia. Platelets were harvested from women in the third trimester of either a healthy, non-preeclamptic or preeclamptic pregnancy, and from healthy, non-pregnant women. Using Seahorse respirometry, we analyzed platelets for oxygen consumption (OCR) and extracellular acidification (ECAR) rates, indicators of mitochondrial electron transport and glucose metabolism, respectively. There was a 37% …
