Hypertension is a common comorbidity in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and substantially increases the risk of both macrovascular and microvascular complications. Data on the determinants of hypertension status among T2DM patients in primary healthcare settings remain limited. This study aimed to analyze the determinants of hypertension status in T2DM patients at Puskesmas Menteng during 2024–2025. This was an analytic observational study employing a cross-sectional design. Study subjects comprised T2DM patients registered and undergoing examinations at Puskesmas Menteng over the 2024– 2025 period. Data were extracted from electronic medical records, included age, sex, occupation, socioeconomic status, blood pressure, …

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease with a high risk of complications, requiring optimal glycemic control. This case report aims to describe the use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in the evaluation of a patient with T2DM and obesity whose glycemic levels remained uncontrolled despite high-dose insulin therapy. A 58-year-old woman with an 18-year history of T2DM presented to the Endocrinology Clinic of Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital with uncontrolled blood glucose accompanied by classic diabetic symptoms. CGM revealed that the majority of glucose levels were within the time above range (TAR) at 83% without hypoglycemia, while the time …

Impact Of Diabetes Mellitus On Oral Health And Oral Health-Related Quality Of Life In Older Adults In A Malaysian Healthcare Facility, Nur Aisyah Muntadar, Nur Camelia Azlyn Kamarol Adlee, Eleena Mohd Yusof

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

Objective: To investigate the association between oral health status and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in older adults with diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods: A cross-sectional study involving participants aged 60 and above from a Malaysian healthcare facility utilized structured interviews using the Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI) questionnaire. Intraoral assessments, including BPE, DMFT index, evaluation of edentulism and assessment of restoration/denture type/quality, were conducted. Statistical analysis included independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, nonparametric, and correlation coefficient tests. Results: Among 69 participants (36 with DM, 33 without), with a mean age of 65.97 years, no significant …

Introduction. Diabetes mellitus (DM) patients have a higher risk of tuberculosis (TB) infection, including the risk of drug- resistant (DR)-TB infection, compared to those without DM. Data on the characteristics of pulmonary DR-TB with DM in Indonesia are still very limited. The management of pulmonary DR-TB with DM should consider multiple factors, such as drug interactions between DM medication and anti-TB drugs, as well as potential exacerbation of DM complications by anti-TB drugs side effects. Effective management of pulmonary DR-TB patients with DM will improve treatment outcomes. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and characteristics of pulmonary DR-TB …

Brominated Flame Retardants: A Literature Review Of The Toxicity Mechanisms, Clinical Manifestations, And Current Treatments, Yacobus Christian Prasetyo, Eti Nurwening Sholikhah

Occupational and Environmental Medicine Journal of Indonesia

Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are organohalogen compounds that can inhibit fire formation and delay its spread in manufacturing materials. BFRs are known to be toxic for the environment and humans. BFRs could persist for years prolonging potential exposure and toxicity to living beings. Indonesia had begun to reduce the use, even though some of toxic BFRs are still illegally circulating. This review aims to describe some aspects of BFRs toxicity including the mechanism, its clinical manifestations, and the current possible treatments. Toxicity after BFRs exposure includes endocrine, neurodevelopmental, and genotoxicity. The toxicity is manifested into some clinical conditions such as …

Biomarker Metabolite Discovery For Pancreatic Cancer Using Machine Learning, Immanuelle Kezia, Linda Erlina, Aryo Tedjo, Fadilah Fadilah

Indonesian Journal of Medical Chemistry and Bioinformatics

Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers in the world. This cancer is caused by multiple factors and mostly detected at late stadium. Biomarker is a marker that can identify some diseases very specific. For pancreatic cancer, biomarker has been recognized using blood sample known as liquid biopsy, breath, pancreatic secret, and tumor marker CA19-9. Those biomarkers are invasive, so we want to identify the disease using a very convenient method. Metabolite is product from cell metabolism. Metabolites can become a biomarker especially from difficult diseases. In this paper, we want to find biomarker from metabolite using machine learning …

Serum Immune Profiling Of Patients With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, Hifsa Mobeen, Muhammad Kashif, Ahmed Nadeem, Faheem Shahzad, Romeeza Tahir, Afia Abbas, Nadeem Afzal

Makara Journal of Health Research

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the most prevalent hormonal disorder in females, is characterized by low levels of progesterone, which causes increased estrogen levels leading to production of various anti and auto-antibodies. This study aimed to estimate and compare levels of anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA), anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO), anti-thyroglobulin (anti-TG), and anti-islet cell antibodies (anti-ICAb) in patients with PCOS and healthy controls.

Methods: The present comparative study included 82 subjects divided into two groups with 41 individuals in each group. Group I included healthy subjects, while Group II included patients diagnosed with PCOS. Blood samples were collected to determine …
