Ossifying Fibroma And Central Giant Cell Granuloma, A Hybrid Tumor In The Maxilla, Jason Phung, Robert Bender, Susana Ferra

Introduction: Ossifying fibromas (OF) and central giant cell granulomas (CGCG) are benign lesions of the jaw. The presence of a hybrid lesion consisting of OF and CGCG is exceedingly rare.

Case summary: A 28-year-old male presented with complaints of nasal congestion and loud snoring worsening over six months. CT scan revealed a 2.2 x 1.5 x 1.2 cm radiolucent lesion involving the right maxillary sinus. During endoscopic sinus excision, a friable light tan and hemorrhagic lesion was seen occupying the right maxillary sinus with underlying bone destruction. Intraoperative pathology evaluation revealed no malignancy.

Introduction: Solitary Fibrous Tumor (SFT) is rare, especially in locations outside the pleura, and it can mimic benign mesenchymal tumors. Misdiagnosis, leading to inadequate treatment, can increase the risk of metastasis and recurrence. Dedifferentiated SFT (DD-SFT), is the most aggressive subtype.

Case Summary: A 45-year-old male presented with a rapidly growing, non-painful, palpable, exophytic right thigh mass. CT revealed an 8 x 7.4 x 7.0 cm heterogenous mass abutting the underlying muscle. His care team made a presumptive diagnosis of sarcoma, and referred him to a local oncologic surgeon who performed a radical excision and submitted the tumor to Pathology. …

Background: Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune neuromuscular disorder characterized by muscle weakness and fatigue. Paraneoplastic myasthenia gravis, a rare manifestation of this condition, is often associated with underlying malignancies, such as thymic tumors. We present the case of a 51-year-old female patient with a mediastinal mass who developed paraneoplastic myasthenia gravis, highlighting the diagnostic challenges and therapeutic considerations in such cases. Case Description: A 51-year-old female presented with a one-month history of progressive muscle weakness, diplopia, and dysphagia. Introduction: Duodenal neuroendocrine carcinomas are an uncommon variant of Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) that are typically non-functional with locoregional spread at the time of diagnosis. Management of these tumors is dependent on size, grade, stage, functional status and location.

Summary: A 66-year-old male presented with an incidental finding of low grade 3 centimeter duodenal NET on esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) located in the second segment of the duodenum with evidence of lymphadenopathy on staging scans. Objective: This study aimed to compare surgical margin analysis on final pathology in robotic assisted approach hysterectomy vs. all other approaches in early-stage cervical cancer.

Methods: Patients with clinical early-stage disease who underwent total and radical hysterectomy from the years 2018-2023 were categorized into robotic assisted approach group (RAH) vs all other approaches including laparoscopic hysterectomy (LAH), laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH), and open hysterectomy (TAH). Fisher’s exact test was used for analysis of the primary outcome measure.

Autistic adults are at higher risk of being diagnosed with co-occurring health conditions, and yet they are a vulnerable group for disparities in access and outcomes. One of the key barriers to better outcomes is poor patient-provider communication. This study the use of AASPIRE’s AHAT communication toolkit as a channel between healthcare workers and autistic adults to facilitate their appointments within the outpatient oncology department, as well as assessing healthcare providers’ knowledge and self-efficacy in caring for the patients. Glioblastoma (GBM) is the deadliest and most common malignant CNS tumor. Despite advances in understanding its biology and the development of targeted therapies, effective treatment options remain limited. As a result, patient survival rates are dismal, with a 5-year survival rate of only 6.8% and an overall survival of less than two years. This poor outcome is partly due to our inability to treat GBM cells that infiltrate the whole brain. Focal treatments like surgery and radiotherapy alone are insufficient due to these invasive tumor cells. Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor (GEP-NET) is a heterogeneous group of malignancies arising from multipotent neuroendocrine stem cells in the gastrointestinal tract. The incidence of GEP-NET continues to rise, possibly due to the advancement of imaging and biomarkers available for diagnosis. However, even though the majority of patients are diagnosed with low-grade and localized disease, a significant percentage of patients present with advanced-stage metastatic disease with poor prognosis in months to a few years. These advanced-stage GEP-NET patients can also present with a variety of debilitating symptoms that significantly impact their quality of life. This mini review summarizes the immunobiology of myelodysplastic syndromes, specifically focusing on the interactions between immune cells, cytokines, and dysplastic cells within the tumor microenvironment in the bone marrow. We elucidate in detail how immune dysregulation and evasion influence the initiation and progression of myelodysplastic syndromes, as well as resistance to therapy and progression to AML. In addition, we highlight a range of therapeutic strategies, including the most recent breakthroughs and experimental therapies for treating MDS. Breast cancer continues to be the second most common cancer in women in the United States. The neuroendocrine hormone human prolactin (hPRL) plays an important role in normal mammary gland development and growth, stimulating normal breast tissue proliferation and differentiation. Considerable evidence has shown that hPRL is involved in the malignant transformation of human breast tissue. hPRL enhances viability, invasiveness, and proliferation of breast cancer cells in vitro. Evidence from epidemiologic and genetic studies also implicates role of hPRL in the pathogenesis of breast cancer. Its cognate receptor the human prolactin receptor (hPRLr) is required for the action of hPRL. …

Infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) accounts for nearly all cervical cancers (CESC), a subset of other anogenital squamous cancers, and increasing rates of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSC), with each cancer type having heterogenous outcomes due to a general lack of personalized care. Large scale genomic analyses have catalogued the somatic alterations occurring frequently among squamous tumor types including HNSC and CESC, but few studies have incorporated a thorough analysis of HPV genomics.
