Effectiveness Of Nickel-Titanium Files For Retreatment Of Molars Filled With Single-Cone Hydraulic Technique Using Bioceramic Sealers: An In Vitro Study, Jane Lee, Hyeon-Cheol Kim, Timothy Kirkpatrick, David E Jaramillo, Sang Won Kwak, Ji Wook Jeong

Recently, the single-cone hydraulic canal filling technique using bioceramic sealers was found to hinder retreatment due to the mechanical properties of the bioceramic sealers. This study assessed the effectiveness of four nickel-titanium rotary files in removing gutta-percha and bioceramic sealer from molar root canals in vitro. Eighty-eight root canals from extracted molars were instrumented with Vortex Blue rotary files and filled with gutta-percha and bioceramic sealer using a single-cone technique. Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate in-vitro the retreatability of premixed calcium-silicate-based sealer versus resin-based sealer when combined with gutta-percha using the single-file system XP-endo Rise.Materials and methods: 26 canals in typodont acrylic Nissin teeth were instrumented with E-flex blue rotary instruments up tosize 0.35mm and taper of 4%. Root canals were divided into two groups, obturated using either hydraulic condensation techniquewith a bioceramic sealer (n=13) or continuous wave of compaction (CWC) technique with a resin-based sealer (n=13). Background: Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities may require dental care to be delivered while under general anesthesia, albeit there is often greater need for these services than hospital capacity allows.

Case Description: This case report presents a 19-year-old male with intellectual and developmental disabilities and numerous comorbidities who was able to be treated under general anesthesia in an academic dental surgery center by an interdisciplinary team. The accompanying discussion identifies strategies that dental teams and academic centers can consider to effectively provide care to patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities who require general anesthesia.
