The aim of this study was to compare two different techniques for distalizing the mandibular dentition in patients with Class III malocclusion using either miniscrews or miniplates. We evaluated the skeletal and dento-alveolar changes associated with each method. The study also aimed at identifying cephalometric characteristics in the subjects associated with the most predictable, successful outcome of treatment. Acromegaly is an uncommon endocrinological disorder, which is rarely seen in patients presenting for orthodontic treatment. Herein, we report a patient who underwent orthognathic surgery and was diagnosed with acromegaly during the retention phase. During disease progression and treatment, gradual changes in the mandible and facial soft tissue were detected. General information and management of acromegaly are reviewed, and the role of orthodontists in the treatment of patients with acromegaly is discussed.

An adult female has upper central diastema complicated with a complete deep bite and spacing in lower dentition. The broad face and ovoid shaped dental arch form require special attention as an intrinsic transverse dimensional skeletal malocclusion. The treatment modality therefore should be totally different from other deep bite cases with crowding or tapered dental arch. The space retention after active treatment is of prime important. Root divergence of upper incisors and bodily protraction movement of lower posterior teeth were the main concerns during treatment. Fixed lingual retainer and long term follow up are essential for stable outcome.

Introduction: According to the World Health Organization, dental cavities are the number one chronic disease in children. Saliva coats the teeth all day and can serve many functions to maintain and protect teeth. Saliva has many proteins that can be both detrimental and essential to the preservation of tooth enamel. The purpose of this study is to determine if a correlation exists between the total protein concentration in saliva and the prevalence of cavities in the mouth. Objectives: To compare the accuracy of position and parallelity of two implants, using static and dynamic CAIS systems. Materials & Methods: 30 patients received two implants randomly allocated to 2 different CAIS systems. Optimal implant position and absolute parallelity was planned based on preoperative CBCT. Implants were placed using surgical guide (static CAIS, n = 15) and real time navigation (dynamic CAIS, n = 15). Implant 3-dimentional deviation and parallelity was calculated after surgery. The aim of this case series, is to describe our surgical technique for reconstructing benign mandibular neoplasms using BMAC – a less invasive approach than traditional iliac crest bone graft harvest.

BMAC was used in combination with mineralized freeze-dried allograft, platelet rich plasma (PRP) & bone morphogenic protein (rhBMP-2) to reconstruct the hard tissue lost secondary to the ablative tumor resection.

• 10 patients included in the retrospective case series were treated between 2014 and 2017 by 3 surgeons.

Purpose: The As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principle was developed to promote awareness and minimization of radiation exposure and is supported by radiation control and professional organizations. The purpose of this study was to determine licensed dental hygienists' current radiation safety practices.

Methods: Data were collected with a 22 item, online survey administered to a convenience sample of 1,500 dental hygienists in the United States. Questions focused on respondents' use of the American Dental Association (ADA) radiographic examination selection guidelines, their individual dental practice policies, and hand-held portable x-ray device use and training. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of a pain scale with Emoji images in comparison to the commonly used Wong-Baker FACES® pain scale. Methods: Healthy, English-speaking patients aged 4-17 presenting to the VCU Pediatric Dental clinic and the operating room and presenting to the MCV Pediatric Emergency Room were asked to rate their pain using the Wong-Baker FACES® and Emoji scales. Purpose: Compare the efficacy of two benzodiazepines (diazepam or midazolam) in combination with meperidine and hydroxyzine for pediatric dental sedation. Methods: A randomized, double blind observation study of behaviors and outcomes related to two sedation groups. Frankl and Houpt behavior scores were recorded at three time points: injection time, initiation of treatment and at the end of treatment. Postoperative phone call surveys were conducted within eight hours of discharge to assess sleep, activity, and behavior. In Class II deep-bite malocclusions with growth potential, we could combine orthodontic treatment with orthopedic methods to achieve stable occlusion. The case was a 12-year-old male presented with Class II malocclusion, deep-bite, and low mandibular plane angle. In the stage I treatment, headgear was used to restrict the growth of maxilla. The patient had missing of four premolars which became intricate with extremely lingual inclined incisors and over-developed mandible. The surgery first approach (SFA) was adopted to correct the skeletal factors at the early stage. The pre-adjusted orthodontic bracket system was applied to normalize the torque of the teeth afterward.
