Identifying Youth Appeals In Alcohol Alternative Social Media Content Through Framing, Melina Oneal
Identifying Youth Appeals In Alcohol Alternative Social Media Content Through Framing, Melina Oneal
West Chester University Master’s Theses
Proposed regulations for alcohol advertising prevent beverage companies from targeting people under the legal drinking age. However, similar regulations for alcohol alternative beverages are less explored, which could allow alcohol alternative products to create awareness for alcoholic beverages among youth. Alcohol alternatives beverages, including no-alcohol and low-alcohol products, are increasing in popularity and can function as compliments to alcoholic products to decrease the total alcohol volume consumed or as substitutes for alcoholic products. Framing theory can be operationalized through the Content Appealing to Youth Index, an index of content elements found in research literature to be appealing to youth, to …
Impact Of Oxytocin And Tetrahydrocannabinol On Signs Of Fear In The Rat, Jair E. Alvarez Jr.
Impact Of Oxytocin And Tetrahydrocannabinol On Signs Of Fear In The Rat, Jair E. Alvarez Jr.
EWU Masters Thesis Collection
BACKGROUND: Oxytocin (OXT) has been used as a post-treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Previous research suggests that pre-treatment of intranasal OXT attenuates signs of fear in rats; however, the impact of intraperitoneal (i.p) OXT pre-treatment on signs of fear in rats is unknown. We also explored the effects of delta-9 (psychoactive component of cannabidiol) and delta-8 (delta-9 isomer) THC pre-treatment on attenuating signs of fear in the rat. METHODS: For each experiment, male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 5 groups, (n=8 per group); 1.) controls (vehicle and no foot shock), 2.) shock (vehicle and foot shock), 3.) low dose …
Design, Synthesis, And Anti-Mcf-7 Activity Of New Thieno[2,3-D]Pyrimidinone Derivatives As Potential Breast Cancer Treatment, Bassem H. Naguib, Amgad Albohy, Mostafa A. Abdelaziz, Hanan H. Kadry
Design, Synthesis, And Anti-Mcf-7 Activity Of New Thieno[2,3-D]Pyrimidinone Derivatives As Potential Breast Cancer Treatment, Bassem H. Naguib, Amgad Albohy, Mostafa A. Abdelaziz, Hanan H. Kadry

Breast cancer is one of the top leading causes of death and the most aggressive type of cancer in women. Resistance to chemotherapy is one of the challenges associated with the development of strategies for the treatment of breast cancer. One way to overcome this issue is to design new agents that target breast cancer cell lines such as MCF-7. In this study, a new series of S-alkylated thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-ones bearing carboxamide or ketonic scaffolds was synthesized and screened for their cytotoxicity against MCF-7 breast cell lines. Among synthesized candidates, 6d exhibited more potent cytotoxicity against MCF-7 cell lines with IC50 …
Advancing Small Molecule Therapies For Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1, Sawyer M. Hicks
Advancing Small Molecule Therapies For Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1, Sawyer M. Hicks
Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)
Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is a multisystemic disorder caused by the expression of expanded CUG (CUGexp) repeat RNA from the myotonic dystrophy protein kinase (DMPK) gene. This CUGexp repeat RNA’s gain-of-function mechanism leads to the sequestration of muscleblind-like (MBNL) proteins, resulting in widespread alternative splicing dysregulation across tissues. Despite significant research, there are currently no approved therapeutics targeting the underlying causes of DM1. This dissertation explores the development and optimization of a novel class of small molecules, Modified Polycyclic Compounds (MPCs), designed to address splicing dysregulation in DM1. MPCs were designed from previously published …
Examination Of The Time Course Effects Of Electronic Cigarettes On The Thoracic Aorta, Madison Robinson
Examination Of The Time Course Effects Of Electronic Cigarettes On The Thoracic Aorta, Madison Robinson
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Endothelial dysfunction is a critical early marker of the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease and a pathological biomarker in cigarette smokers. Emerging evidence finds similar cardiovascular risks resulting from electronic cigarettes (E-cig) as that seen from smoking. Logically, the time or length of exposure to E-cigs will likely influence the development of vascular dysfunction, however, the length of exposure that causes permanent damage is unknown. The goal of this study was to determine the potential window of chronic E-cig exposure that results in vascular dysfunction, which is marked by endothelial dysfunction, microvascular dysfunction, and stiffening of arteries. Based on prior chronic …
