Impact Of Personal, Familial, And Socioeconomic Factors On The Return Of Remotely Collected Samples For Genetic Testing, Jordan Zeiger

Dissertations & Theses (Open Access)

There are a multitude of barriers known to impact access to medical care in the United States. COVID-19 has changed and compounded these barriers and led to a shift in the setting of the genetic counseling (GC) appointment, and in sample types used for genetic testing, specifically with use of telemedicine and remotely collected saliva kits. Previous studies have described lack of patient follow-through in returning these kits. Though the understanding of barriers to medical care, including access to genetics services, is well described, there is little in the literature for how these barriers impact the return of remotely collected …

Indeterminate thyroid nodules (ITN) represent 20–30% of biopsied nodules, with a 10–60% risk of malignancy. Molecular testing can stratify the risk of malignancy among ITNs, and subsequently reduce the need for unnecessary diagnostic surgery. We aimed to assess the performance of these molecular tests at a single institution. Patients with Bethesda III, IV, and V nodules with Afirma and Interpace Diagnostics genetic testing data from November 2013 to November 2021 were included. Three cohorts were formed, including GSC + XA, ThyGeNEXT + ThyraMIR, and GSC + GEC. Statistical analysis determined the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value …

Refining A Postpandemic Approach To Cancer Screening, Michael A. Thompson

Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews

In introducing Volume 8, Issue 4 of Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews — a specially themed issue comprised of several works focused on improving cancer screening processes in clinical practice — JPCRR editor and hematologist/oncologist Michael Thompson reflects on the current state of various screening modalities and how the pandemic has already begun to shape ongoing research in this area. A delicate balance must be struck between avoiding overtesting or overdiagnosis and identifying the presence of malignant tumors early enough to allow for successful treatment.

Preimplantation Genetic Testing (Pgt) And Frozen Embryo Transfer (Fet) Synergistically Decrease Pre-Term Delivery In Patients Undergoing In Vitro Fertilization (Ivf), Luke Ying Md, Mark Sanchez Md, James Baron Md, Ying Ying Oct 2019

Preimplantation Genetic Testing (Pgt) And Frozen Embryo Transfer (Fet) Synergistically Decrease Pre-Term Delivery In Patients Undergoing In Vitro Fertilization (Ivf), Luke Ying Md, Mark Sanchez Md, James Baron Md, Ying Ying

OB-GYN

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of FET and FET post PGT (FET/PGT) on pre-term and very pre-term deliveries in patients undergoing IVF with elective single embryo transfer (eSET).

DESIGN: Retrospective cohort Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) data study.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using the publicly available data in the SART National Summary Report from 2014 to 2017. Cycle inclusion criteria were eSET, fresh embryo transfers (ET), and frozen embryo transfers (FET) with or without PGT (FET/PGT). Exclusion criteria were use of gestational carriers and donor eggs. Pregnancy outcomes included live births and gestational age …
