Objectives Rapid discrimination of infections caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) is crucial in clinical settings. Despite overlapping clinical and radiological features, the two require markedly different therapeutic approaches and public health responses. Current laboratory methods are time-consuming and complex, underscoring the urgent need for a simple and efficient diagnostic tool to inform public health decision-making. AIMS: Progressive legalization of medical and recreational cannabis markets at the state-level has led to rapid growth of medical and recreational cannabis markets and to product diversification with emerging products having high concentrations of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. Research on these products is still limited and the evidence available for policy formulation is diminished by methodological limitations.

METHODS: As a step towards addressing these limitations, the Colorado School of Public Health convened a multidisciplinary workshop that addressed four areas of cannabis research: epidemiological, clinical, surveillance, and policy. PURPOSE: This study aimed to compare the effect of establishing an inferior vena cava filter (IVCF) retrieval program (IVCFRP) on the IVCF retrieval rates in trauma and non-trauma patients. METHODS: This was an institutional review board-approved retrospective study. IVCF retrieval in trauma and non-trauma patients was compared before and after the establishment of an IVCFRP in a single Level I Trauma Center. Burn injuries over previously grafted tissue present a formidable challenge for excision and debridement, particularly when there are critical underlying structures such as bowel. Enzymatic debridement with the recently approved anacaulase-bcdb, a bromelain-based enzymatic debridement gel (Nexobrid), presents an additional method of burn excision that may be useful in such a situation. The PML::RARA fusion resulting from t(15;17) is the genetic hallmark of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), typically detected by cytogenetics and/or fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) studies. Rarely, APL patients present with normal cytogenetics and FISH findings, complicating diagnosis and delaying life-saving therapy. We report a 23-year-old male with clinical, morphologic and immunophenotypic features consistent with APL but negative for FISH studies. Despite prompt initiation of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) based on clinical suspicion, the patient succumbed to intracranial hemorrhage. Identifying noninvasive measures to assess intravascular volume status and risk stratify patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is needed. We assessed the predictive value of estimated plasma volume status (ePVS) using the Strauss-derived Duarte formula in PH-CKD patients. This single-center retrospective cohort analysis included patients with PH and CKD Stage 3b (CKD3b), Stage 4 (CKD4), or Stage 5 (CKD5) who underwent right heart catheterization from 2018 to 2023. OBJECTIVES: The modified Cabrol technique has been associated with excellent graft patency. However, prior studies were limited to patients largely on long-term anticoagulation. We sought to analyze outcomes in patients primarily managed without mechanical prostheses.

METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed all patients who underwent aortic root replacement by a single surgeon from 2014 to 2024. Patients who underwent reimplantation of one or both coronary ostia using the modified Cabrol technique with separate interposition grafts were identified. Baseline characteristics and postoperative outcomes were reported. Predictors of mortality were analyzed using Cox proportional hazards, and overall survival was reported using Kaplan-Meier analysis.

This paper offers a clear, evidence-based look at how we can reduce opioid use after knee replacement surgery without sacrificing pain relief. This review focuses specifically on total knee arthroplasty (TKA)-one of the most commonly performed and most painful surgeries-and asks whether opioids are truly necessary. By analyzing results from 21 clinical trials, the paper shows that non-opioid medications like NSAIDs and gabapentinoids can provide similar pain control with fewer side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, constipation, and sedation. Background/Objectives: The objective is to study the trajectories of hematologic and biochemical markers in moderately anemic pregnant women receiving oral iron supplementation throughout pregnancy. Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted from August 2021 to September 2023 involving 315 pregnant women from rural areas of Belgaum, Karnataka, India, with hemoglobin levels between 7.0 and 9.9 g/dL and serum ferritin < 30 ng/mL and/or TSAT < 20%. Participants received iron-folic acid supplementation (IFAS) as per Anaemia Mukt Bharat guidelines. Blood samples were collected to measure various hematologic and iron markers and compared across each visits. Background: Reported rates of unintended dural puncture during performance of continuous epidural anesthesia (CEA) or combined spinal-epidural anesthesia (CSEA) have remained steady at approximately 0.5% to 1% since the 1970s. Methods: A modified method of inserting the Tuohy epidural catheterization needle was used during performance of CSEA in 393 parturients. A single staff/faculty anesthesiologist performed or supervised resident use of a flush-measure-check-advance Tuohy needle insertion algorithm. Results: The rate of evident Tuohy needle dural puncture during the series was 0%. These excisions result in open wounds in topographically challenging regions and typically cannot be primarily closed. This study evaluates the use of a synthetic electrospun fiber matrix (SEFM) as a post-resection regeneration template to accelerate re-granulation and improve subsequent skin graft incorporation. Background: Wernicke’s encephalopathy is a life-threatening neurological disorder caused by thiamine deficiency, most commonly associated with alcoholism. However, postoperative nutritional deficiencies in young patients undergoing bariatric procedures are increasingly recognized. Background: Corticobasal syndrome (CBS) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by often asymmetric fronto-pariteal and extra-pyramidal features that is traditionally associated with tauopathy, but pathological findings are heterogenous, including other forms of frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) and mixed pathologies of aging. We present clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic features of asymmetry in a unique patient with CBS and underlying FTLD with TDP-43 pathology (FTLD-TDP), co-occurring with other age-related pathologies.

Central nervous system (CNS) vasculitis is an uncommon etiology that may be triggered by infections, including fungal pathogens. INTRODUCTION: Screening for health-related social needs (HRSN) is a growing national health priority. While multiple HRSN screening tools currently exist, none to our knowledge have been evaluated using robust statistical analyses.
