Purpose: Retrospective chart reviews in ophthalmology are essential for gaining clinical insights, but they remain labor-intensive and prone to error. Despite digitization through electronic health records, extracting and interpreting lengthy, unstructured patient histories remains challenging, particularly in ophthalmology, which relies heavily on both imaging and text-based reports. We introduce OphthoACR, a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-compliant artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tool for automated chart review and cohort analyses in ophthalmology. Long-read RNA sequencing is a powerful technology for transcriptomics, but low throughput and high cost pose challenges. Adaptive sampling, a feature of Oxford Nanopore Technologies, offers real-time enrichment by selectively ejecting non-target molecules. We evaluate adaptive sampling for human transcriptome analysis. Adaptive sampling modestly enriches target transcripts (1.3 × for cDNA sequencing, 1.9 × for direct RNA sequencing) while preserving gene expression and splicing profiles, but is significantly less effective than cDNA hybridization capture. Short read lengths and low sequencing quality limit performance. Adaptive sampling on direct RNA sequencing can boost target yield (~ 20%) within fixed run times, potentially …

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Retinal optical coherence tomography (OCT) in rodent models has been used to longitudinally image retinal changes, to define end points for more costly or time-consuming experiments, and to better understand the pathophysiology underlying OCT findings in human diseases. No standardization of rodent OCT reporting currently exists. Here, we aim to establish consensus recommendation for reporting results from retinal OCT studies in rodents.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the outcomes of anterior and posterior surgical approaches for treating cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament across multiple spinal levels, including 1-2 spinal levels, ≥ 3 levels, or studies that operated on both spinal levels, called mixed spinal levels.

METHODS: A search strategy using pertinent keywords was employed in the MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. Background: Failure to rescue (FTR), defined as death after major postoperative complications, is a critical quality indicator in pancreatic cancer surgery. Despite advances in surgical techniques and perioperative care, FTR rates remain high and vary across institutions. Methods: This systematic review uses a narrative synthesis followed by PRISMA 2020. A PubMed search (1992-2025) identified 83 studies; after screening, 52 studies (2010-2025) were included. Eligible designs were registry-based, multicenter, single-center, or prospective audits. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the impact of clinical surveillance, primary radiotherapy, and primary surgery on overall survival (OS) in laryngeal carcinoma in situ (Cis).

METHODS: The 2006-2020 National Cancer Database was queried for adults with a biopsy-proven diagnosis of laryngeal Cis. Multivariable binary logistic and Cox proportional hazards regression models were implemented.

RESULTS: Of 3567 unique patients satisfying inclusion criteria, 514 (14.4%) underwent clinical surveillance, 1074 (30.1%) underwent primary radiotherapy, and 1979 (55.5%) underwent primary surgery. PURPOSE: To investigate outcomes of robotic ureteral reconstruction (RUR) in female patients with ureteral strictures caused by peri-ureteral endometriosis lesions.

METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed our multi-institutional Collaborative of Reconstructive Robotic Ureteral Surgery (CORRUS) database to identify all consecutive patients undergoing RUR for surgical management of endometriosis-induced ureteral strictures between 2017 and 2022. Indications for surgery included female patients with radiographic evidence of ureteral strictures and/or decreasing renal function on renal scan. We performed a descriptives analysis of perioperative outcomes in patients who met inclusion criteria. Surgical success was defined as freedom from additional interventions for recurrent ureteral stenosis.

The hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp technique is considered the gold standard for measuring insulin sensitivity in large animals. We developed a practical method for conducting concurrent glucose clamp experiments in a pair of sedated farm swine positioned in a sling. Descriptions of customized equipment and central venous access surgical procedures for blood collection are provided. Personnel functions are described for execution of the clamp protocol. A total of 24 hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp studies were performed over 6 weeks. Infusaports remained functional for 1454 blood samples. Randomized controlled trials evaluating Food and Drug Administration-cleared or Conformité Européenne (CE)-marked non-invasive neuromodulation devices were included. The Papanicolaou “pap” smear screens for cervical cancer in women ages 21-65 with a cervix. Inconsistent locations for lab results lead to a decrease in provider efficiency, and patients are unaware of results or recommended follow-up. This quality improvement project implemented a tracking tool within the electronic medical record (EMR) in a busy midwifery clinic. The outcomes are the identification of patients overdue for pap smears, scheduling the procedure, recording of results, and patient notification with recommended follow-up.

Music influences emotion, physiology, and cognition, yet little is known about how the frequency it is tuned to affects these influences. Prior research has shown that music tuned to 432 Hz can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve sleep. My colleagues and I conducted two studies to investigate this. Our research found that music tuned to 432 Hz promotes a significant increase in memory retention and induces a state of focus and relaxation. These results suggest that shifting from the standard tuning frequency of 440 Hz to 432 Hz could have a profoundly positive impact on our daily lives. …

This case examines a 19-year-old female Division I collegiate soccer player who underwent anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with medial and lateral meniscal repairs. Though meniscal tears often occur in conjunction with ACL injury, incidence of concurrent medial and lateral tears with presence of a displaced bucket-handle lesion is rare. This patient attempted to tackle an oncoming opponent in which contact caused forceful trunk rotation away from her planted right foot. Suturing is a required skill by the General Medical Council that all medical students must have, and how it is being introduced to new students is changing. This review aimed to summarize different educational interventions and determine the most efficient and cost-effective way to teach future suturing skills. Athletic trainers are required to be proficient in emergency management skills, without review these skills may decay creating a potentially dangerous knowledge gap. Confidence measures of emergency management skills were taken before and after a workshop to determine if they changed due to the review of material. All 11 confidence measures increased post workshop, seven significantly, including rectal temperature, hemostatic agents, external hemostatic modalities, in-line stabilization, measurement and application of a cervical collar, football and other equipment removal. ATs should aim to incorporate emergency management review into continuing education choices.

This disablement model case study outlines a 21-year-old female collegiate lacrosse player attending a United States service academy who presented with a unique neuromuscular deficit following a conservative grade II PCL tear rehabilitation. Nearing the end of her rehabilitation protocol, she noticed difficulty with toe-off while running; however, she did not report to the athletic trainer due to the institution’s holiday break proximity. An unexpected transfer of care occurred when the patient returned after the holidays, and she was cleared for full participation upon return. A 24-year-old female collegiate beach volleyball athlete experienced sharp pain in the pubis symphysis region after turning and running to reach a ball hit over her right shoulder. The patient was unable to move her lower extremities without extreme pain and required help off the court. She was referred to the student health center, where no initial imaging was performed. Differential diagnoses included osteitis pubis, abdominal strain, and athletic pubalgia. Pressure measurement in clinical practice is a valuable tool for diagnostic evaluation, especially in diseases such as portal hypertension. Currently, portal pressures are measured by invasive hepatic vein catheterization, posing risks to patients, and limiting how often measurements can be obtained. Subharmonic-aided pressure estimation (SHAPE) is an ultrasound-based technique that leverages ultrasound contrast agents (UCAs) to estimate changes in hydrostatic pressure. UCAs act as nonlinear oscillators when exposed to high enough acoustic pressures (typically > 200 kPa) and produce significant energy components ranging from subharmonics to higher harmonics.
