Isolated superior mesenteric dissection (ISMAD) is an uncommon condition, often diagnosed incidentally for presentations of acute abdominal pain. Early identification and treatment are crucial as complications such as bowel ischemia or vessel rupture can occur. There remain no established treatment guidelines, making surgical and endovascular indications controversial. A 60-year-old male presented with acute abdominal pain, and was diagnosed with ISMAD via computed tomography imaging. He was initially managed conservatively which progressed to worsening abdominal pain, hypertensive crisis, and hemoperitoneum on follow-up computed tomography angiography (CTA). (1) Background: Impeded resolution of inflammation contributes substantially to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD); consequently, resolving inflammation is pivotal to the amelioration of AD pathology. This can potentially be achieved by the treatment with specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators (SPMs), which should resolve neuroinflammation in brains. (2) Methods: Here, we report the histological effects of long-term treatment with an SPM, maresin-like 1 (MarL1), on AD pathogenesis in a transgenic 5xFAD mouse model. OBJECTIVES: Compare functional outcomes and treatment-related regret over 10 years in Spanish- and English-speaking Hispanic men compared to non-Hispanic men following treatment of localized prostate cancer. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Data from a prospective cohort study of men with localized prostate cancer treated with active surveillance, radical prostatectomy or radiotherapy were used to examine the effect of survey language (Spanish speaking vs. English speaking) and ethnicity (Hispanic vs. non-Hispanic) on functional outcomes and treatment-related regret over 10 years. This poster highlights current and updated guidelines for chemical and mechanical prophylaxis for venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing major and minor orthopedic surgery. Existing and new potential therapies were reviewed, as well as an analysis into the lack of high-quality risk-prediction score calculators to improve personalization of prophylaxis regimens. Alongside a summary of existing and potential new prophylaxis protocols, a call to action to improve validity of said risk score calculators so as to improve patient outcomes and personalized medicine is made.

INTRODUCTION: The degree of improvement in serum creatinine (SCr) has previously been suggested as a sensitive indicator of treatment response in patients with hepatorenal syndrome-acute kidney injury (HRS-AKI), while HRS reversal remains the primary endpoint in clinical trials.

METHODS: A total of ≥ 30% SCr improvement was analyzed as an exploratory prespecified endpoint in the CONFIRM trial. In this post hoc analysis, intent-to-treat population data from three Phase 3 studies (OT-0401, REVERSE, and CONFIRM) conducted in North America in patients with HRS-AKI were pooled to assess the incidence of > 30% improvement in SCr and its association with clinical outcomes.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that more commonly affects African American people, although it is seen in people of all racial backgrounds. This condition is characterized by a dysregulated immune response resulting in widespread inflammation. Clinical manifestations caused by this inflammation include arthritis, anemia, cutaneous rashes, pleuritis, and nephritis. Treatment for SLE aims to reduce disease activity and maintain a state of low inflammation. Chagas disease is a neglected tropical disease caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi that affects 6 million people worldwide. In the United States, Chagas is estimated to affect 43 000 women of reproductive age. Pregnant persons with Chagas are at risk for congenital transmission to the newborn, which accounts for nearly a quarter of all new cases. In 2022, a US multidisciplinary expert working group4 developed recommendations for increased clinician-directed screening for Chagas. Background: Available treatment options for pediatric alopecia areata are limited and may even exacerbate the physical and psychosocial burden. Objective: This article aimed to provide a treatment classification system and counseling recommendations. Recommendations: Topical corticosteroids are appropriate for initial treatment due to their ease of use and safety. Topical minoxidil and dithranol are often used as adjunctive treatments based on mixed data. Members of the Vesiculovirus genus including Jurona virus (JURV) have emerged as promising immunotherapeutic agents, characterized by their tumor selectivity, fast kinetics, low seroprevalence, and minimal toxicity in humans. Here, we demonstrate that the administration of JURV leads to tumor regression in both hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) xenograft and syngeneic models. Furthermore, our findings indicate that combining JURV and anti-PD-1 therapy reduced tumor burden and improved survival rates over JURV or anti-PD-1 alone in an orthotopic HCC model. Spindle cell lipoma (SCL) is a benign adipocytic tumor usually found in the subcutis of the posterior neck, upper back, and shoulder, predominantly in middle-aged males. This case report describes an atypical presentation of SCL in a 26-year-old male with a history of malignant melanoma. The patient presented with an erythematous plaque with central hyperpigmentation on the right upper arm, an uncommon location and presentation for SCL. The present investigation evaluated transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) for the non-pharmacological treatment of post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN). PHN is the most common complication of the Herpes Zoster virus, affecting one in every five patients with shingles, and presents as intense neuropathic pain that can persist for 90 days or longer after the initial onset of symptoms. Current pharmacological treatment options are mainly limited to symptom management, including oral medications such as tricyclic antidepressants and gabapentinoid preparations, as well as topical options such as lidocaine or capsaicin. BACKGROUND: Early diagnosis and treatment of osteomyelitis is essential to prevent potential complications including sepsis, extensive bone resection, amputation, and death. Despite current treatment strategies for management of osteomyelitis, recurrence rates reported in the literature are upwards of 25 %. Current evidence comparing the efficacy of differing surgical treatments of osteomyelitis is inconclusive. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing allows for a comprehensive assessment of the mechanism of exercise limitation in pulmonary arterial hypertension and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Competitive pathophysiologic mechanisms may affect the clinical interpretation of cardiopulmonary disease as they relate to dyspnea, leg fatigue, and exercise intolerance.

BACKGROUND: With the growing utilization of general endovascular techniques, iatrogenic endovascular foreign bodies have become more prevalent. Contact aspiration has proven to be a valuable technique in treating ischemic strokes by removing the intraluminal thrombus causing cerebral perfusion deficits and neurological symptoms. The authors present a case of the removal of a foreign body from the vasculature via contact aspiration, which had embolized in a delayed fashion after aortic valve replacement. OBSERVATIONS: A 54-year-old male developed intermittent left-sided weakness 8 days after aortic valve replacement.
