Lead poisoning has been regarded as a major threat due to its irreversible and harmful effects. This includes severe cognitive and developmental impairments, especially in children.

Over the years, the CDC has reduced the benchmark for acceptable blood lead levels (BLL) from 10 μg/ml to 3.5 μg/ml to allow for earlier intervention and prevention.

Despite increased awareness and government programs that lead to a decline in mean blood levels across the country, testing for elevated BLLs, especially in low-income households, continues to be disproportionately lower.

Background: Predictive factors for performing remplissage concomitantly with arthroscopic Bankart repair include the presence of humeral or glenoid defects >11% and/or revision surgery. International and societal consensus statements support these findings, as surgeons recommend the Latarjet procedure for patients with significant glenoid bone loss (>15-20%) while remplissage is recommended for patients with off-track or engaging Hill-Sachs lesions without significant glenoid bone loss. While several studies have compared outcomes between Latarjet surgery and remplissage, these studies have only evaluated patients with engaging Hill-Sachs lesions, not consecutive patient cohorts indicated for each surgery.

Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) is a disease of adulthood characterized by the triad of gait disturbance, dementia, and urinary incontinence. Since NPH shares a lot of characteristics with other disorders including neurodegenerative disorders and degenerative-dystrophic spine, it is usually underdiagnosed and undertreated. Combination of ventriculomegaly seen on a computerized tomography (CT) scan or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with clinical findings could be used in diagnosis of NPH. The Direct Antigen Test (DAT) is used to find out if a newborn has maternally-produced antibodies against the newborn’s red blood cells. We discuss the case of a term newborn male with an O+ blood type born to a mother whose blood type is A+. As a part of routine screening, DAT of umbilical cord blood was obtained, which resulted positive. While the neonate had jaundice, the overall clinical picture pointed more toward neonatal physiological jaundice rather than a potential hemolytic anemia expected with a positive DAT. This discrepancy prompted us to review literature to explain our findings.

Dermatology is still not emphasized in medical education and often is taught to most medical students in an abbreviated fashion, which results in physicians feeling ill-equipped to deal with any dermatologic condition—either mundane or potentially life-threatening.

Those who suffer a partial thickness ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) tear often undergo a period of nonoperative management including physical therapy rehabilitation. This treatment is aimed at optimizing range of motion (ROM) and strengthening the supporting structures around the elbow to help offload the UCL.

Unfortunately, some of these patients fail nonoperative management and require surgical intervention. Globally, more than a quarter of pregnant patients experience low back pain (LBP) during pregnancy with additional complaints of pelvic girdle pain (PGP) and other somatic dysfunctions. Though the standard of care for LBP in pregnancy is often analgesics, concerns about potential side effects that may cause lasting harm to the fetus may preclude pregnant patients from taking pain medications. Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) is a nonpharmacologic treatment option that is routinely used for LBP in non-pregnant patients. Given the low risk of adverse effects, OMM may prove to be beneficial for pregnant patients suffering from LBP or PGP.

A 60 year old male with a PMH of SARS-CoV-2, OSA and primary hypogonadism presented with a chief complaint of left sided facial numbness and weakness.

Bells Palsy is commonly caused by HSV, VZV, Lyme disease and less commonly ischemia or local compression. It presents with facial paralysis and loss of taste in anterior 2/3 of tongue.

In the absence of definitive Lyme serologies despite history of tick bite, it is likely that this patient had Bell’s Palsy as a late manifestation of COVID-19.

NMIBC (T1, Ta, Tis), accounting for approximately 75% of new bladder cancer diagnoses, is limited to the mucosa, submucosa, and lamina propria. Calciphylaxis is a rare vascular disorder that presents with painful skin necrosis due to calcium accumulation in skin and adipose tissue. Most commonly, cutaneous manifestations of calciphylaxis are seen on the buttocks, thighs and extremities. Very few cases have presented unconventional locations of these calcified eschars and ulcers such as the penis and scrotum. Heparin is an anticoagulant medication, used to inhibit the formation of thrombi that pose arteriolar and vein-occlusive risk. The choice between starting a heparin infusion with or without an initial bolus is case dependent based on whether a patient is already anticoagulated and if so, foregoing an initial bolus. In contrast, both anticoagulated and non-anticoagulated patients share the same goal when receiving Heparin for various thromboembolic syndromes, and that is to be within aPTT target range of 1.5-2.5 or 45 to 75 seconds. They have roles in DNA repair, glucose metabolism, and cellular proliferation which make them highly desirable targets for carcinoma therapeutics. Liposarcoma (LS), a malignant tumor of adipose origin, is the most common soft tissue sarcoma (STS), and can develop within any soft tissue. It rarely occurs in the paratesticular region, and accounts for 3-7% of spermatic cord tumors. Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLS) and well-differentiated liposarcoma (WDLS) account for two of the five subtypes of LS, with dedifferentiation occurring in 20% of cases. There have been 66 cases of DDLS of the spermatic cord reported to date, but none present with a 22/22q trisomy without the fusion or rearrangement that commonly produces these aggressive tumors.

Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is a genetic disorder involving uncontrolled, widespread, extraskeletal bone growth, or heterotopic ossification (HO). In FOP patients, stem cells called fibro/adipogenic progenitors (FAPs) follow an abnormal, osteogenic pathway.
