Objective: The pivotal trial 30-day outcomes of the GORE TAG Thoracic Branch Endoprosthesis in patients with endovascular repair of the aortic arch or descending thoracic aorta using a zone 0 or 1 landing zone were evaluated.

Methods: In this nonrandomized, multicenter, prospective study, the primary, clinically driven outcome was a composite of the following through 1 month: technical success (successful device deployment with maintenance of side-branch patency and the absence of aortic rupture), lesion-related mortality, disabling stroke, permanent paraplegia or paraparesis, new onset renal failure requiring permanent dialysis, and protocol-defined unanticipated reintervention.

Background: Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness in the United States. The tools available to treat glaucoma via intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction include pharmacological therapy or surgical intervention.

Case Report: This case study explores these tools in the context of glaucoma in active-duty military personnel. It involves an active-duty army patient diagnosed with early Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG) who was initially prescribed IOP-lowering medication. Barriers in treatment compliance occurred while the patient was deployed that led to significant glaucomatous changes detected when the patient returned stateside.

Research shows that refugee youth in high-income countries frequently suffer from trauma-associated disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety. BACKGROUND: The 2023-2024 influenza season included sustained elevated activity from December 2023 to February 2024 and continued activity through May 2024. Influenza A(H1N1), A(H3N2), and B viruses circulated during the season.

METHODS: During 1 September 2023 to 31 May 2024, a multistate sentinel surveillance network of 24 medical centers in 20 US states enrolled adults aged ≥18 years hospitalized with acute respiratory illness. African American/Black men are disproportionately impacted by prostate cancer (PCa). Patient navigation is an evidence-based approach to address barriers to care, improve access to care and health outcomes, and reduce disparities. This scoping review provides an in-depth examination of navigation programs in PCa care across the cancer continuum, with a focus on African American/Black men in the United States.

On 27 February 1962, Surgeon General Luther Terry announced a new vaccine development program within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Initially, the plan had three components: (1) special laboratories and facilities for development of prototype vaccines; (2) pilot lot production facilities and preliminary vaccine trial sites; and (3) larger lot production capacity and expanded human testing. In this study, we quantified and compared the estimated solid waste produced from performing one million basic metabolic panels (BMPs) across five major high-throughput chemistry analyzer systems commonly used in the United States. Rationale and objectives: To evaluate the post-deployment performance of an artificial intelligence (AI) system (Aidoc) for intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) detection and assess the utility of ChatGPT-4 Turbo for automated AI monitoring.

Materials and methods: This retrospective study evaluated 332,809 head CT examinations from 37 radiology practices across the United States (December 2023-May 2024). Of these, 13,569 cases were flagged as positive for ICH by the Aidoc AI system. Background: Past research has documented that increases in profits and health system size, as well as increases in the reward generosity for improving these metrics play an important role in explaining increases in nonprofit hospital CEO pay between 2012 and 2019.

Objectives: To test whether hospital quality measures play a supplemental role in determining CEO pay.

Purpose: Precision oncology trials have generally focused on tumor testing to identify actionable alterations. The National Cancer Institute-Children's Oncology Group Pediatric MATCH trial incorporated return of germline results to assess feasibility of reporting in a cooperative group setting and characterize germline cancer predisposition in patients with refractory cancers.

Introduction: Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is a disease associated with chronic inflammation, fibrosis, and pain. There is a lack of tools available that facilitate early diagnosis, when intervention could prevent irreversible damage. Pilot data suggested prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) as a candidate biomarker for early CP. PGE2 activates signaling pathways that promote inflammation, pain, and fibrosis.

Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1), the first oncogenic human retrovirus, causes adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL), an aggressive neoplasm of mature CD4+ T-cells that is incurable in most patients and is associated with a median survival of less than 1 year. HTLV-1 also causes inflammatory disorders, including HTLV-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP) and uveitis. The estimated lifetime risks of ATLL and HAM/TSP in HTLV-1 carriers are 3-5% and 0.25-1.8%, respectively. AIM: To optimize the real-world applicability of a health economic model estimating the cost-effectiveness of corneal cross-linking for the treatment of keratoconus in the United States.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: A previously reported discrete-event simulation (DES) model was adapted to reassess the cost-effectiveness of corneal cross-linking (CXL) from the US payer perspective. The simulation of keratoconus progression, which is a key driver of model outcomes, was remodeled to more accurately reflect the real-world relationship between age and the rate of disease progression. INTRODUCTION: Patients with respiratory distress are frequently encountered in the emergency department (ED). Efforts to assess, initiate treatments, and stabilize these patients require a systematic and rapid response. Emergency physicians need a comprehensive and efficient approach for evaluating, treating, and managing patients presenting to the ED with moderate respiratory distress.

METHODS: The American College of Emergency Physicians convened an expert panel of academic and community emergency physicians, critical care specialists, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and pharmacists to develop and subsequently disseminate consensus recommendations regarding the diagnosis and treatment of patients with moderate respiratory distress presenting to the ED.

INTRODUCTION: Women with multiple chronic conditions are more likely than women without them to report lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS); understanding the association of common and coexisting chronic conditions with bladder health across adulthood may inform prevention efforts.

METHODS: Data were collected from May 2022 through December 2023 from a regionally representative cohort of community-dwelling adult women in the US. Chronic conditions were assessed by self-report and bladder health, and LUTS were measured using validated questionnaires. The mental health crisis in the US is severe, with depression and anxiety leading causes of disability among young adults. The mental health services market is growing, but access to care remains inconsistent, particularly in rural and underserved areas. Pharmacists are playing a crucial role in mental health care, improving medication adherence and patient outcomes through collaborative practice agreements. Systemic reform is needed to address barriers such as affordability and social determinants, with pharmacists integral to closing care gaps.
