The AACN identified the need to attract students from underrepresented groups, including men. Background: PANS/PANDAS are pediatric autoimmune disorders that cause an acute-onset of OCD-like symptoms and/or severe restricted eating, as well as anxiety, irritation, deterioration of fine motor skills, hyperactivity, and other psychiatric symptoms. An estimated 1-2% of the pediatric population is affected. Currently, there is little research published on the treatment options for PANS/PANDAS and there is no evidence-based consensus on the best treatment option.

Background: Frontline workers in psychiatric facilities are exposed to considerable risks of verbal and physical assaults, with 40% to 65% of mental health nurses experiencing violence in the workplace. The goal of this pilot study was to assess the readiness and motivation for adopting trauma-informed care (TIC) to address workplace violence in an acute care psychiatric hospital.

Method: A pre-post quality improvement study was conducted in two pilot units of a 274-bed acute care psychiatric hospital, involving a discussion-based seminar and a practical exercise. Surveys assessed participants' readiness and motivation posttraining.

The purpose of this qualitative study was to evaluate the effects of curricular changes made to foster graduate students' understanding of how they can be catalysts of change. For more than a decade, the concept of the citizen nurse has been woven into coursework in nursing education, thus indicating an evaluation process was needed.

Method:

Ten oral history interviews were completed with current students or alumni. Data were analyzed for codes, allowing the final themes to emerge.

A survey that was administered to staff members on nine units at a pediatric hospital assessing their awareness of hair care for Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) indicated a lack of awareness. This impacts the fundamentals of nursing care, which encompasses cultural sensitivity and promoting health equity. In this survey, 12.18% (n=52) of the 427 patients on the nine participating units between December 12, 2023, and January 19, 2024, identified as BIPOC. Background: Routine blood sampling can be conducted using venepuncture, inserting a new peripheral intravenous cannula (PIVC), or utilising an existing one. The practice of blood sampling from a cannula requires handling and movement of the cannula bung. It is discouraged due to safety concerns linked to increased risk of phlebitis, infection, or reduced dwell time.
