Objective: To describe parents' motivations for and against participation in neonatal research, including the views of those who declined participation.

Study design: We performed 44 semi-structured, qualitative interviews of parents approached for neonatal research. Here we describe their motivations for and against participation.

Results: Altruism was an important reason parents chose to participate. Some hoped participation in research would benefit their infant. Burdens of participation to the family, such as transportation to follow up (distinct from risks/burdens to the infant), were often deciding factors among those who declined participation. Perceived risks to the infant were reasons against participation, but parents …

Background: We report extended follow-up of TROG99.03, a randomised phase III trial in early-stage follicular lymphoma (ESFL) including new information on the role of adjuvant rituximab and translational studies.

Methods: Patients with ESFL were randomised to involved field radiotherapy (IFRT) or IFRT plus 6-cycles cyclophosphamide/vincristine/prednisolone (IFRT + CVP). From 2006 rituximab was added to IFRT + CVP (IFRT + R-CVP). Clinical and multi-omic parameters were evaluated. Findings were validated in two independent ESFL cohorts (99 and 60 patients respectively).

In recent years, researchers from different fields have become increasingly interested in measuring individual differences in mind wandering as a psychological trait. Although there are several questionnaires that allow for an assessment of people's perceptions of their mind wandering experiences, they either define mind wandering in a very broad sense or do not sufficiently separate different aspects of mind wandering. Here, we introduce the Brief Mind Wandering Three-Factor Scale (BMW-3), a 12-item questionnaire available in German and English. BACKGROUND: People with psychosis and mood disorders experience disruptions in working memory; however, the underlying mechanism remains unknown. We focused on 2 potential mechanisms: poor attentional engagement should be associated with elevated levels of prestimulus alpha-band activity within the electroencephalogram (EEG), whereas impaired working memory encoding should be associated with reduced poststimulus alpha suppression.

INTRODUCTION: State policies surrounding sexual minority (SM) rights are associated with tobacco use among SM individuals. Research is scant regarding the role of distinct SM policy categories on SM young adults' (SMYAs) tobacco use and mechanisms explaining these associations.

METHODS: We analyzed 2023 survey data from 1100 SMYAs (ages 18-34; 14.2 % gender minority; 66.1 % bisexual+, 29.1 % monosexual; 53.2 % racial/ethnic minority) with representation across 45 US states and DC. PURPOSE: Pain after brachial plexus injury (BPI) can be severely debilitating and is poorly understood. We hypothesized that pain interference (PI) ("the extent to which pain hinders engagement in life") would be predicted by depression, anxiety, severity of pain symptoms, and poorer preoperative muscle function.

Metaplastic breast carcinoma (MBC) and gynecologic carcinosarcoma (GCS) are rare, clinically aggressive cancers that demonstrate epithelial components and mesenchymal or sarcomatoid components. In this study, we assessed PD-L1 expression and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in MBC and GCS. Overall, PD-L1 positivity using the SP142 clone was seen in 50 % of MBC and 51.9 % of GCS cases, with PD-L1 expression in tumor cells significantly higher in MBC cases (p = 0.034), and PD-L1 expression in immune cells similar in MBC and GCS cases. Acral fibrochondromyxoid tumor (AFCMT) is a recently described likely benign mesenchymal neoplasm arising in the distal extremities with distinctive histologic features and a recurrent THBS1::ADGRF5 fusion. We studied an additional 37 cases of AFCMT and expanded on the so-far reported clinicopathologic and molecular findings. Tumors occurred in 21 females and 16 males, ranging in age from 17 to 78 years (median age: 47), and solely involved the hands (24/37, 65%) or feet (13/37, 35%). Histologic examination revealed well-delineated uni- or multinodular tumors with prominent vasculature-rich septa and bland, chondrocyte-like tumor cells set within abundant chondromyxoid stroma. BACKGROUND & AIMS: The pathophysiology of Crohn's-like disease of the pouch (CDP) in patients with a history of ulcerative colitis (UC) is unknown. We examined mucosal cells from patients with and without CDP using single-cell analyses.

METHODS: Endoscopic samples were collected from pouch body and prepouch ileum (pouch/ileum) of 50 patients with an ileal pouch-anal anastomosis. Puberty and associated changes in pubertal hormones influence structural brain development. Hormones such as dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and progesterone remain understudied, and it remains unclear how these aspects of puberty contribute uniquely to structural brain development. We used the Human Connectome Project in Development cross-sectional sample of 1304 youth (aged 5-21 years) to investigate unique contributions of sex, age, pubertal stage, DHEA, testosterone, estradiol, and progesterone to cortical thickness, surface area, and subcortical volume development within functionally-relevant networks. PURPOSE: Breast density is a widely established independent breast cancer risk factor. With the increasing utilization of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) in breast cancer screening, there is an opportunity to estimate volumetric breast density (VBD) routinely. However, current available methods extrapolate VBD from two-dimensional (2D) images acquired using DBT and/or depend on the existence of raw DBT data, which is rarely archived by clinical centers because of storage constraints.

IMPORTANCE: The combination of ifosfamide and etoposide (IE) is commonly used to treat relapsed or refractory osteosarcoma; however, second-line treatment recommendations vary across guidelines.

To optimize personalized treatment strategies and extend patients' survival times, it is critical to accurately predict patients' prognoses at all stages, from disease diagnosis to follow-up visits. The longitudinal biomarker measurements during visits are essential for this prediction purpose. Patients' ultimate concerns are cure and survival. However, in many situations, there is no clear biomarker indicator for cure. We propose a comprehensive joint model of longitudinal and survival data and a landmark cure model, incorporating proportions of potentially cured patients.
