Objective: The objective of this systematic review was to examine current evidence regarding the associations between dietary quality and mental well-being indicators (stress, anxiety, and/or depression) in college students, with a secondary aim of characterizing the relationship between overall dietary quality and academic performance. Methods: Searches were performed, and the PRISMA guidelines were followed for reporting the methods and results. Results: Twelve observational studies were included and reviewed showing high dietary quality was associated with: low stress (four studies), high stress (one study), and no significant association (two studies); low depression (three studies) and no significant association (two studies) and …

Psychotic disorders following traumatic brain injury (TBI) are a significant concern in psychiatry, with chronic sequelae often overlooked. The pathophysiology of post-TBI psychosis involves neuroplasticity and neuronal remodeling, potentially exacerbating vulnerabilities to chronic psychotic disorders. Differentiating post-TBI psychosis from primary schizophrenia and other psychotic conditions is crucial for appropriate treatment. This case report discusses a 63-year-old male with a history of TBI from a gunshot wound sustained in adolescence, who later developed schizophrenia. The report explores the patient's psychiatric symptoms, cognitive dysfunction, personality changes, and imaging findings. The report examined the complex relationship between TBI and psychotic symptoms, considering genetic, …

Improving Sep-1 Compliance Among Clinicians And Registered Nurses In The Emergency Department, Luke Roesler
Doctor of Nursing Practice Papers
Background: Sepsis is attributable to more than one in three in-hospital deaths in the United States and 20% of deaths globally each year. In 2015, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) adopted an early goal-directed 3 and 6-hour bundle intervention measure titled “SEP-1” based on recommendations from the International Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) consensus panel to improve patient outcomes in cases of severe sepsis and septic shock. Sepsis is most often identified in the emergency department (ED) setting due to 87% of cases beginning in the community (Sepsis Alliance, 2022). National compliance with SEP-1 is 50% despite a …

In the last decade, there has been a significant increase in the use of commercial semi-autonomous vehicles by consumers. This has led to a surge in concerns among users about the limitations of these systems, especially when it comes to safety. In order to address these concerns, users often seek out diverse educational resources to comprehend these constraints, explore alternatives, and determine whether their experiences are representative. This paper examines the viewpoints of users who are using a new AI system that has received minimal training from the vendor. We conducted interviews of the users of the AI to examine …

Neurokinin 3 Receptor Antagonists Compared To Paroxetine For Reducing Vasomotor Symptoms In Postmenopausal Women: A Systematic Review., Jessie Vandor, Heather Justice, Erika Mccarthy, Kara Roman, Jason Brumitt
Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc)
Roughly half of the population will experience menopause. Postmenopausal symptoms can present with physical and mental health manifestations, such as anxiety, depression, dyspareunia, vaginal dryness, brain fog, hot flashes, and night sweats. The latter two symptoms are collectively known as vasomotor symptoms.1,2 Up to 80% of postmenopausal women will experience vasomotor symptoms and about 10% will experience them as severe.3 Vasomotor symptoms are the leading reason why postmenopausal women seek medical evaluation.4 Not only are hot flashes bothersome throughout the day, but they often cause intense night sweats that contribute to insomnia and daytime fatigue.4 Vasomotor …

The translation of pre-clinical anti-cancer therapies to regulatory approval has been promising, but slower than hoped. While innovative and effective treatments continue to achieve or seek approval, setbacks are often attributed to a lack of efficacy, failure to achieve clinical endpoints, and dose-limiting toxicities. Successful efforts have been characterized by the development of therapeutics designed to specifically deliver optimal and effective dosing to tumour cells while minimizing off-target toxicity. Much effort has been devoted to the rational design and application of synthetic nanoparticles to serve as targeted therapeutic delivery vehicles. Several challenges to the successful application of this modality as …

Background: Obesity disproportionately impacts men’s health yet fewer men engage in preventive healthcare. We examined the effectiveness of Hockey Fans in Training (Hockey FIT), a gender-sensitised lifestyle intervention that engages men with overweight/obesity through their passion as fans of a local sports team, on weight change and other health indicators. Methods: Pragmatic, cluster randomised trial (aged 35–65 years, body mass index ≥ 27 kg/m2 ) within 42 community-based sites in Canada and the United States, randomly assigned (1:1) to intervention (Hockey FIT) or control (waitlist) and stratified by region. Sites were selected based on partnerships with local major junior/professional hockey teams …

Using Causal Diagrams Within The Grading Of Recommendations, Assessment, Development And Evaluation Framework To Evaluate Confounding Adjustment In Observational Studies, Kevin Mcintyre, Karina N Tassiopoulos, Curtis Jeffrey, Saverio Stranges, Janet Martin
Epidemiology and Biostatistics Publications
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The current Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system instructs appraisers to evaluate whether individual observational studies have sufficiently adjusted for confounding. However, it does not provide an explicit, transparent, or reproducible method for doing so. This article explores how implementing causal graphs into the GRADE framework can help appraisers and end-users of GRADE products to evaluate the adequacy of confounding control from observational studies.
METHODS: Using modern epidemiological theory, we propose a system for incorporating causal diagrams into the GRADE process to assess confounding control.
RESULTS: Integrating causal graphs into the GRADE framework enables …

PRECISe Preschool Speech and Language Publications
Purpose:
Previous literature has proposed barriers to speech-language pathologists (SLPs) using standard clinical labels; however, the perspectives of SLPs have been studied to a lesser extent. This quality improvement project reports on SLPs' perceived barriers and facilitators to using currently recommended clinical labels for preschool communication disorders and identifies next steps to support implementation in one preschool communicative health system.Method:
This project aimed to establish the consistent use of clinical labels in one large Canadian preschool speech and language program. After completing a web-based training and a 3-month trial period, 387 SLPs completed an exit survey to share their …Treatment Protocol For Withdrawal Of Alcohol, Kendra Bishop, Simone Lauture, Benita Ehomo, Andrey Popov

Journal of Faith Integration Counseling (JFIC)
The inaugural issue of the Journal of Faith Integration in Counseling introduces a platform dedicated to integrating faith, religion, and spirituality into mental health practices. Highlighted articles include the ACPE Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy (SIP) Training Program, a Buddhist approach to self-concept obsessive-compulsive disorder, and a model for recovery from infidelity in evangelical marriages. These contributions emphasize the importance of spiritual dimensions in counseling to improve client outcomes. The editorial board is committed to mentoring authors and fostering scholarly excellence, addressing a critical gap in existing publication options by offering practical approaches for faith integration in counseling.
