Purpose: To develop and incorporate a QA (quality assurance) program for a Canon Galan 3 tesla MR Simulator for applications in radiation therapy.
Methods and materials: The QA program was centered around tests performed with three separate levels of frequency. The daily QA procedure consisted of scanning a vendor provided daily QA cube phantom that measures basic performance parameters. Additionally, a series of basic safety check were performed. The monthly QA procedure consisted of several tests, including scanning the ACR MRI large accreditation phantom and manually performing its corresponding image quality tests. Abstract
This study aimed to examine the relationship between poor ergonomic conditions and student physiological discrepancies. This examination provided great insight into students’ daily experiences and concerns for their futures. The methodology used for this study was quantitative as two source data sets were collected and analyzed. The tool REBA was used to measure the specific body angles while students sat working. A survey yielded great results, giving the students an opportunity to subjectively choose options.

This phenomenological research study examined the personal experiences, habits, and perceptions of post-secondary students who binge drink. This study was guided by 3 research questions as well as pre-existing research into collegiate binge drinking. The experiences shared by participants showed that despite serious negative outcomes, students binge drink because they feel negatives are far outweighed by the positive social interactions and fun drinking creates. While all of the participants in this study are considered binge drinkers who abuse alcohol, none of the participants considered their drinking to be problematic. Postprandial glycemia (PPG) predicts cardiovascular disease, and short-term physical inactivity increases PPG in young, active adults. Whether this occurs in older, active adults who may be more prone to bouts of inactivity is unknown. This study determined if postprandial interstitial glucose (PPIG) was impaired in active older adults following the removal of exercise for 3 days (NOEX) compared to active young adults. In this randomized, crossover study, 11 older (69.1 ± 1.9 years) and 9 young (32.8 ± 1.8 years) habitually active (≥90 min/week of exercise) adults completed 3-days of NOEX and 3-days of normal habitual exercise (EX), separated by …

Although research supports the feasibility and reliability of health-related physical fitness (HRPF) tests in typically developing children and adolescents, little is known regarding the feasibility and reliability of these tests for those with hearing impairments (HI). The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and reliability of a HRPF test battery for children and adolescents with HI. Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are persistent environmental organic pollutants known to have detrimental health effects. Using a mouse model, we previously demonstrated that PCB126 exposure before and during pregnancy and throughout the perinatal period adversely affected offspring glucose tolerance and/or body composition profiles. The purpose of this study was to investigate the glucose tolerance and body composition of offspring born to dams exposed to PCB126 during the nursing period only. Mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression became heightened issues for college-aged young adults during the global pandemic. The main purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a peer-supported exercise intervention on young adults (vs. self-guided exercise) who reported elevated levels of anxiety and/or depression. A parallel group design was used where young adults (n = 27) were randomly assigned to either a peer-supported or self-guided exercise group which lasted for eight weeks. Importance: Physical inactivity and sleep disorders are health-related concerns of youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) that can persist from childhood and exacerbate core symptoms. However, evidence on group differences in accelerometer-assessed physical activity and sleep parameters among youth with and without ASD is inconclusive and age-specific effects remain unclear.

Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a leading cause of preventable death following a surgical procedure in the United States. To reduce this risk, it is crucial that nurses are able to recognize VTE risks, perform a VTE risk assessment, and follow appropriate prophylactic recommendations.
Methods: Nurses received VTE education and the Caprini risk assessment model (RAM) was initiated at a rural outpatient surgery center. Introduction: Suicide is a leading cause of death among today's youth. One in six youth have seriously considered attempting suicide, and one in 13 have attempted suicide at least once. Background: Studies show an association between agricultural occupational hazards and respiratory illnesses. Personal protective equipment (PPE) has protective effects, but limited education and inadequate respiratory protection are common among agricultural workers.
Methods: A demographic questionnaire and two pre-intervention surveys were initially administered to farmers and ranchers. The surveys measured attitude, knowledge, and behaviors related to respiratory safety and PPE practices. Pulmonary function testing, educational handouts, and respirator fit testing was provided in a variety of settings, and one N95 mask was given to each participant. Two surveys were distributed 3 months post-intervention.

Background: The focus of this Doctor of Nursing Practice Project surrounds the need for an evidence-based clinical nursing protocol to augment nurse competency and therefore streamline care to patients with an external ventricular drain (EVD).
Methods: A clinical protocol alongside tailored education was used to promote nurse competency for EVD management. A pre-implementation survey was completed evaluating the nurses’ baseline competency when managing an EVD. The nursing protocol was then implemented for bedside use. After 2 months, the survey was completed once again and paired for statistical analysis.

Methods: A pre-implementation Simplified Knowledge and Attitude Survey Regarding Pain (KASRP) and Comfort Survey were administered to rural Midwest home health nursing staff followed by implementation of a chronic pain management protocol. Background/Purpose: Pediatric home health patients with chronic respiratory conditions often have a higher risk of developing respiratory tract infections leading to emergency room (ER) visits and unplanned hospitalizations. A sick day plan (SDP) can help nurses recognize signs of illness early and prompt them to intervene with supportive respiratory care, thus preventing worsening illness and hospitalization.
Methods: A SDP respiratory assessment and intervention tool was implemented in a pediatric home health organization. The number of pre and post intervention ER visits and unplanned hospitalizations were compared.

Background: Monitoring fluid status may prevent adverse patient outcomes. Nurses and unlicensed staff are responsible for inpatient fluid status monitoring and documentation.
Methods: Registered nurses and unlicensed staff completed a pre-intervention questionnaire measuring their knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to fluid status monitoring. They then completed an education session on fluid status monitoring and the new protocol. This protocol includes use of a fluid balance chart, a standardized daily weight process, and allowed patient participation. The protocol was implemented for 2 months, and the questionnaire was completed again post implementation.

Background: Promoting physical activity in weight management patients promotes better patient outcomes.
Methods: Weight management clinic patients were enrolled in the 6-week Walk with Ease (WWE) program. At the first session, each participant’s walking distance was measured over a 20-minute timeframe using pedometers. WWE group met 3 times weekly for six weeks for walking activities and with education on movement, mobility, and strength. At each session, the walking distance of participants was measured over 20 minutes. Race, gender and age descriptive were also collected.

Purpose- This study investigates the performance of practicing physicians and medical trainees on learning health equity material. The population was tested on basic terminology and concepts of health equity in a module called “Basics of Health Equity.”
Design- The American Medical Association published an e-learning module available to a diverse population that took the quiz for continuing medical education credit. The population includes physicians and medical professional from all states and territories in the United States. Prior research has found that health care leadership qualities impact physician well-being and role satisfaction. However, this research was conducted in a fully employed physician model health system. Objectives
Early studies on COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy showed varied intensity across countries, which was linked to various factors such as socio-economic conditions, information sources, and issues of trust in government, scientific experts, and the health sector. This study aims to evaluate the determinants of vaccine hesitancy to offer insights into the strategies that may be successful in designing communications campaigns for enhanced vaccination uptake.

We have previously shown that human and murine breast extracellular matrix (ECM) can significantly impact cellular behavior, including stem cell fate determination. It has been established that tissue-specific extracellular matrix from the central nervous system has the capacity to support neuronal survival. However, the characterization of its influence on stem cell differentiation and its adaptation to robust 3D culture models is underdeveloped. Tuberculosis endometritis is a pathological diagnosis and has been always over shadowed by pelvic tuberculosis. It is usually asymptomatic, but patients could complain of menstrual irregularity and per vaginal discharge. We report a case of a 37-year-old female who presented with per vaginal discharge for 2 years. Histopathology showed numerous caseating and non-caseating granulomas with plasma cells, Ziehl–Neelsen stain for acid fast bacillus is positive, and she was initiated on anti-tuberculosis treatment. On subsequent follow-up visits, patient was doing well with complete resolution of symptoms. Genital tuberculosis is usually caused by reactivation of organism from systemic distribution during primary infection. …

The purpose of this dissertation research was to examine the associations among racial discrimination, social support, and psychological distress among Black pregnant women. The dissertation was guided by the Ecological Systems theory which has three domains that pertain to this research: individual, interpersonal, and community. A literature review was conducted to investigate what is known about the association between racial discrimination and psychological distress among Black pregnant women. This review found that seventeen of the nineteen studies included reported a positive association between racial discrimination and psychological distress among Black pregnant or postpartum women. Parental stress is associated with increased obesogenic family lifestyle behaviors contributing to childhood obesity. Novel interventions are needed to reduce parental stress and improve healthy lifestyle behaviors for preschool-age children and families. The primary study aim was to analyze preliminary effects of a digitally enhanced evidence-based cognitive- behavior skill-building (CBSB) intervention on parental stress and healthy lifestyle behaviors (diet and physical activity) among parents of preschool-age children. A secondary aim was to evaluate feasibility/acceptability of this school-based virtual intervention during the COVID-19 pandemic.
