An Evaluation Of Distributed And Accumulated Reinforcer Arrangements On Skill Acquisition And Preference, Natalie R. Mandel
An Evaluation Of Distributed And Accumulated Reinforcer Arrangements On Skill Acquisition And Preference, Natalie R. Mandel
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Discrete trial training (DTT), an evidence-based instructional procedure (Wong et al., 2015), is often used to teach skills to individuals with autism. Manipulations to the reinforcement component of DTT have increased its instructional efficiency, resulting in acquisition of skills in less time (e.g., Cividini-Motta & Ahearn, 2013). Results of previous studies (e.g., DeLeon et al., 2014) indicate that some individuals prefer to complete larger work requirements that result in a larger amount of a reinforcer (i.e., accumulated arrangement), rather than receiving access to small amounts of a reinforcer dispersed throughout the work requirement (i.e., distributed arrangement). In addition, accumulated reinforcer …

The Role Of Action Potential Waveform In Failure Of Excitation Contraction Coupling, Xueyong Wang, Murad Nawaz, Steve R.A. Burke, Roger Bannister, Brent D. Foy, Andrew A. Voss, Mark M. Rich
Neuroscience, Cell Biology & Physiology Faculty Publications
Excitation contraction coupling (ECC) is the process by which electrical excitation of muscle is converted into force generation. Depolarization of skeletal muscle resting potential contributes to failure of ECC in diseases such as periodic paralysis, ICU acquired weakness and possibly fatigue of muscle during vigorous exercise. When extracellular K+ is raised to depolarize the resting potential, failure of ECC occurs suddenly, over a range of several mV of resting potential. While some studies have hypothesized the sudden failure of ECC is due to all-or-none failure of excitation, other studies suggest failure of excitation is graded. Intracellular recordings of action potentials …

Microfracture For Cartilage Defects In Today’S Orthopaedics: Pearls And Pitfalls, Himanshu Yn, Sufyan Ibrahim
Manipal Journal of Medical Sciences
Microfracture technique has vacillating clinical outcomes, limited demographic applicability, high failure rate, and variable patient satisfaction. Although it does not deserve to be a gold standard technique, there has not been a technique that could overcome all possible disadvantages associated with the technique and at the same time give a favourable result/be suitable for widespread use/not have its own disadvantages. Microfracture, integrated with biomaterial/stem cell transfer has shown promise over the past decade but studies evaluating the long-term efficacy of the tests and standardization are lacking. Besides, cost and operative difficulties limit widespread use. Twenty-five years into the field, microfracture …
