Objectives: To assess the overall survival of pregnant women diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy or became pregnant thereafter.
Methods: A retrospective medical record review of 90 patients who were diagnosed with cancer when pregnant or who became pregnant thereafter between 1996 and 2015 in Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi.
Results: A total of 90 patients were analyzed. The malignancies that expectant mothers had were, breast cancer 38 (42.2%), hematological cancers 29 (32.2%), brain cancer 10 (11.1%), and other malignancies 13 (14.4%) that included thyroid cancers, gestational trophoblastic disease and synovial tumor of foot. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNA molecules that regulate post-transcriptional gene expression and contribute to all aspects of cellular function. We previously reported that the activities of several mitochondria-enriched miRNAs regulating inflammation (i.e., miR-142-3p, miR-142-5p, and miR-146a) are altered in the hippocampus at 3–12 hours following a severe traumatic brain injury. In the present study, we investigated the temporal expression profile of these inflammatory miRNAs in mitochondria and cytosol fractions at more chronic post-injury times following severe controlled cortical impact injury in rats. We conducted a meta‐analysis on the most commonly used forensic polygraph test, the Comparison Question Test. We captured as many studies as possible by using broad inclusion criteria. Data and potential moderators were coded from 138 datasets. The meta‐analytic effect size including inconclusive outcomes was 0.69 [0.66, 0.79]. We found significant moderator effects. Notably, level of motivation had a positive linear relationship with our outcome measures. Information Gain analysis of CQT outcomes representing the median accuracy showed a significant information increase over interpersonal deception detection across almost the complete range of base rates. Objective: To examine the association between social isolation and mortality and incident diseases in middle-aged adults in urban and rural communities from high-income, middle-income and low-income countries.
Design: Population-based prospective observational study.
Setting: Urban and rural communities in 20 high income, middle income and low income.
Participants: 119 894 community-dwelling middle-aged adults.
Main outcome measures: Associations of social isolation with mortality, cardiovascular death, non-cardiovascular death and incident diseases.

Background: Sepsis can cause deleterious organ deterioration due to deranged patient’s response to infection. Rapid fluid loading at diagnosis is part of standard treatment. While inadequate fluid administration may lead to tissue hypoperfusion and organ failure, excessive fluid administration may cause fluid overload and pulmonary oedema. Predictive tools of fluid responsiveness are therefore required to guide fluid resuscitation. The Passive Leg Raise (PLR) manoeuvre can predict fluid responsiveness in non-intubated patients with sepsis-induced hypotension but is challenging to perform in clinical practice. The vast majority of these deaths occur in low- and low-middle income countries. Morel-Lavallée lesion is a post-traumatic degloving cyst, usually filled with blood, lymph or necrotic tissue, which mostly develops in the area around greater trochanter. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment is essential to prevent further complications, such as compression of surrounding structures. X-rays have limited use and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the modality of choice in diagnosing the lesion. The COVID-19 pandemic provides an important opportunity to understand how parenting stress during social crisis may predict child feeding practices and perceptions of child mealtime behaviors. The objective of the present study was to explore whether parents’ perceived increases in and overall levels of parenting stress during the pandemic were associated with controlling feeding practices and perceptions of child eating behaviors. African Americans have disproportionate rates of post-cessation weight gain compared to non-Hispanic whites, but few studies have examined this weight gain in a multiracial sample of smokers receiving evidence-based treatment in a community setting. We examined race differences in short-term weight gain during an intervention to foster smoking cessation plus weight management. Data were drawn from the Best Quit Study, a randomized controlled trial conducted via telephone quitlines across the U.S. from 2013 to 2017. Cutaneous leishmaniasis is the known form of leishmaniasis affecting humans. It is a skin infection caused by the protozoan parasite Leishmania from animals to humans by the bite of a vector phlebotomine sandfly. About 21 species cause leishmaniasis depending on geographical distribution and host immunity. Populations of northern areas of Sudan are commonly affected by the disease.

Context: Limited opportunities exist to practice technical skills and to be exposed to various surgical specialties during preclinical medical education.

Objectives: To assess the value of workshop-based educational opportunities to medical students during preclinical training.

Methods: One hundred and 75 medical and physician assistant students from 10 medical schools attended the 2019 Philadelphia Surgery Conference. Methods: The randomised controlled trial was conducted at the Cardiology Clinics of Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, from February to July, 2012, and comprised patients who were randomised into intervention PA and AA groups and the control NI groups.
