P6: Predictors Of Compliance With Covid-19 Related Non- Pharmaceutical Interventions Amongst University Students, Spencer G. Shumway, Ethan R. Tolman, Jonas D. Hopper, David Patterson, Gabriella Hubble, Jamie L. Jensen Dr.

Annual Research Symposium

College campuses have been an area where the novel coronavirus has spread rapidly, thus this study is focused on compliance with COVID-19 related non-pharmaceutical interventions among college students.
We surveyed over 600 college students from across the United States and modeled predictors of compliance with non-pharmaceutical interventions. To determine how applicable nationwide modeling might be to individual local campuses we also administered this same survey to nearly 600 students at two large universities in Utah County (Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University). We then ran structural equation modeling (SEM) to determine what factors are related to student compliance with …

O4: Using Principles Of Continuous Improvement To Impact Hospital Consumer Assessment Of Healthcare Providers And Systems (Hcahps) Scores Through Pharmacy-Driven Interventions, Brittany Harnicher, Bertha Castrellon, Dongkoo Khang, Monique Gurney, Rick Carlson

Annual Research Symposium

Purpose

Intermountain Healthcare’s operating model is one of continuous improvement. This model was used to identify barriers and develop pharmacy-driven interventions to improve the communication about medicines domain scores within the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey. This survey offers objective and meaningful information that is important for consumers and creates incentives for hospitals to improve quality of care. This study took place at Riverton Hospital, a 97-bed community hospital that is part of the Intermountain Healthcare system in Utah.

Methods

We reported scores from the surveys between January 1, 2020 and September 30, 2020. Our …

Acne vulgaris is a common chronic skin disease where sebaceous glands that are inflamed or infected occur in the skin. It is well known as red pimples on the face and a lot of teenagers suffer from it. There are several factors that cause acne vulgaris such as excess oil production, hair follicles clogged by oil and dead skin cells, bacteria, and inflammation. Osteogenesis Imperfecta, Dustin Kim Apr 2021

Osteogenesis Imperfecta, Dustin Kim

Campus Research Month

Osteogenesis Imperfecta is an inherited disease that has varying stages of severity. The effects of this disease results in a person's bones becoming brittle and weak to where it can easily fracture or completely break. Though this disease is similar to other bone-deteriorating diseases, like osteoporosis, osteogenesis imperfecta begins with a person having abnormalities in the genes that produce collagen in bones. Collagen is an important component of bone, keeping it strong and resilient against injuries. Yet, those genes end up shutting off, and the victim begins to lack collagen in their bones, making their bones susceptible to breaking.

All-Cause 30-Day Non-Elective Hospital Readmissions Among Adults With An Index Visit For Status Epilepticus In The United States, Shannon Kindilien

Pharmaceutical Sciences ETDs

Status epilepticus (SE) is a type of medical emergency. It occurs when a person has a single seizure lasting more than 5 minutes or multiple seizures within a five-minute timeframe without a return to normal function in between. The specific aims of this research include identifying and describing characteristics associated with all-cause non-elective 30-day readmissions for US adult (>18 years) patients following a SE index hospitalization. The costs of the index visit, readmission, and cumulative costs are also described, and characteristics statistically significantly associated with changes in costs reported. This research uses the 2017 National Readmission Database (NRD) from …

Hypertension Management: Improving Medication Adherence Through The Use Of Daily Text Messages, Gaelle Bulabula Apr 2021

Hypertension Management: Improving Medication Adherence Through The Use Of Daily Text Messages, Gaelle Bulabula

Evidence-Based Practice Project Reports

Hypertension (HTN) is the leading cause of hospitalization and is responsible for approximately 50% of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (Al-Noumani, et al., 2018). Uncontrolled HTN can lead to comorbidities including ischemic heart disease, renal disease, or life-threatening arrythmias (World Health Organization [WHO], 2019). The leading cause of HTN is medication non-compliance (Varleta, et al., 2017). The purpose of this evidence-based practice project was to determine the effectiveness of daily text messages on antihypertensive medication adherence. A comprehensive review of literature generated ten high-level evidence studies demonstrating that daily text messages near each medication dosing time is best practice for improving …

Autosomal genetic analyses of blood lipids have yielded key insights for coronary heart disease (CHD). However, X chromosome genetic variation is understudied for blood lipids in large sample sizes. We now analyze genetic and blood lipid data in a high-coverage whole X chromosome sequencing study of 65,322 multi-ancestry participants and perform replication among 456,893 European participants. Common alleles on chromosome Xq23 are strongly associated with reduced total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides (min P = 8.5 × 10−72), with similar effects for males and females. Chromosome Xq23 lipid-lowering alleles are associated with reduced odds for CHD among 42,545 …
