Pain Response Of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation To Different Grades Of Knee Osteoarthritis, Emily Beer Apr 2021

Pain Response Of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation To Different Grades Of Knee Osteoarthritis, Emily Beer

Honors Theses

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is diagnosed worldwide and affects nearly 250 million people (Wallace et al., 2017, pg. 1). Additionally, people who are 45 years and over are prone to this degrative disease (Wallace et al., 2017, pg. 1). Knee OA can be graded into five categories (0-4) levels associated with the Kellgren-Lawrence grading scales (Kellgren & Lawrence, 1957, pg. 494). Symptoms will develop overtime; thus, it is important to find non-pharmacological ways to help alleviate pain for individuals affected. A non-pharmacological modality of interest is the transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) units, which can be tailored to a patient’s specific …

Introduction Keeping Canadians safe requires a robust public health (PH) system. This is especially true when there is a PH emergency, like the COVID-19 pandemic. Social media, like Twitter and Facebook, is an important information channel because most people use the internet for their health information. The PH sector can use social media during emergency events for (1) PH messaging, (2) monitoring misinformation, and (3) responding to questions and concerns raised by the public. In this study, we ask: what is the Canadian PH risk communication response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the context of social media? Methods and analysis …

Guidelines for genetic testing have been established for multiple tumor types, frequently indicating the most confident molecularly targeted treatment options. However, considering the often-complex presentation of individual cancer patients, in addition to the combinatorial complexity and inherent uncertainties of molecular findings, deriving optimal treatment strategies frequently becomes very challenging. Here, we report a comprehensive analysis of a 68-year-old male with metastatic prostate cancer, encompassing pathology and MRI findings, transcriptomic results, and key genomics findings from whole-exome sequencing, both somatic aberrations and germline variants. We identify multiple somatic aberrations that are known to be enriched in prostate cancer, including a deletion …
