Introduction: The adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) presents new challenges for information gathering, documentation, and patient care. Medical students spend a significant amount of time using the EHR during their clerkship experiences and will continue to do so as they progress to residency. However, formal training varies between institutions and leaves gaps in data-gathering skills, documentation skills, and order entry-these three skills formed the basis for our learning objectives. We designed a workshop using a simulated EHR to teach these skills.

Background: Preventing unintended pregnancy is critical for women living with HIV (WLWH) to safely achieve their reproductive goals. Family planning services should support WLWH at risk of repeat unintended pregnancies. We examined the relationship between unintended pregnancy and subsequent contraception use among WLWH in Uganda.

Study design: This was a retrospective analysis of data from a longitudinal cohort of individuals initiating antiretroviral therapy (ART), restricted to women with pregnancy (confirmed via urine β-hcg testing) between 2011–2013. Background: Hypoglycemia is a rare adverse effect of tramadol that is described in the medical literature and package insert. Objective: The purpose of this study was to review reports of tramadol and hypoglycemia in the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database to determine a potential association. Methods: Disproportionality analysis with Bayesian correction was used to compare tramadol and hypoglycemia with other medications in FAERS. C3 glomerulonephritis (C3GN) is a rare disease that falls under the umbrella of C3 glomerulopathy. It is manifested by abnormal activation of the alternate pathway resulting in complement deposition in the glomeruli. Kidney biopsy with characteristic findings of electron-dense deposits in the mesangial and capillary wall confirms the diagnosis. Until recently, C3GN presenting with primarily lung involvement had not been reported. We present a unique case of initial pulmonary manifestation C3GN.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains a devastating human malignancy with poor prognosis and low survival rates. Several cellular mechanisms have been linked with pancreatic carcinogenesis and also implicated in inducing tumor resistance to known therapeutic regimens. Of various factors, immune evasion mechanisms play critical roles in tumor progression and impeding the efficacy of cancer therapies including PDAC. Among immunosuppressive cell types, myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) have been extensively studied and demonstrated to not only support PDAC development but also hamper the anti-tumor immune responses elicited by therapeutic agents. We examined the viability of using mean propulsive velocity (MPV) to adjust the load in the countermovement jump (CMJ) at moderate altitude. Twenty-four volunteers were assigned to a 4-week power-oriented resistance training (R_T) program in either normoxia (N, 690m) or intermittent hypobaric hypoxia (IH, 2,320m). The load was adjusted to maintain execution velocity of CMJ at 1m·s⁻¹ of MPV. Relative peak power output (P_rel), and percentage of velocity loss throughout the sets (VL) were determined for each session. BACKGROUND: Gene-modified autologous T cells expressing NY-ESO-1

METHODS: Four cohorts were included to evaluate antigen expression and preconditioning on efficacy. Clinical responses were assessed by RECIST v1.1. Engineered T-cell persistence was determined by qPCR. Serum cytokines were evaluated by immunoassay. Transcriptomic analyses and immunohistochemistry were performed on tumor biopsies from patients before and after T-cell infusion. Gene-modified T-cells were detected within the TME via an RNAish assay.

RESULTS: Responses across cohorts were affected by preconditioning and intra-tumoral NY-ESO-1 expression. Of the 42 patients reported (data cut-off 4June2018), 1 patient had a complete response, 14 patients had partial responses, 24 patients …

The Institute for Community Health Promotion/Learning, Engagement and Development Services (ICHP/LEADS) of SUNY Buffalo State conducted a study on the Effectiveness of Food Preparation Demonstrations during the summer of 2019. The study was sponsored by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA). OTDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education Project (SNAP-Ed.) provides food preparation demonstrations to teach SNAP-Ed. recipients how to make low-cost recipes featuring fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy products.

INTRODUCTION: Many patients who are discharged from the emergency department (ED) with a symptom-based discharge diagnosis (SBD) have post-discharge challenges related to lack of a definitive discharge diagnosis and follow-up plan. There is no well-defined method for identifying patients with a SBD without individual chart review. We describe a method for automated identification of SBDs from ICD-10 codes using the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) Metathesaurus.

The link of diabetes with co-occurring disorders in the brain involves complex and multifactorial pathways. Genetically engineered rodents that express familial Alzheimer's disease-associated mutant forms of amyloid precursor protein and presenilin 1 (PSEN1) genes provided invaluable insights into the mechanisms and consequences of amyloid deposition in the brain. Adding diabetes factors (obesity, insulin impairment) to these animal models to predict success in translation to clinic have proven useful at some extent only. This purpose of this study is to quantify potential cost savings and member care improvements as a result of engagement through BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee’s (BCBST) Identification and Stratification (IDStrat) process. Commercial members engaged in clinical management that were identified through IDStrat were compared to commercial members identified through other means across several metrics including per-member, per-month (PMPM) cost and physician visits. Members identified by IDStrat experienced a statistically significant 7% greater reduction in costs after being engaged when compared with those identified by other methods. Because there is no effective treatment for ZIKV infection, developing an effective surveillance and warning system is currently a high priority to prevent ZIKV infection. Background Pregnant women and newborns are at high risk for infectious diseases. Altered immunity status during pregnancy and challenges fully vaccinating newborns contribute to this medical reality. Maternal immunization is a strategy to protect pregnant women and their newborns. This study aimed to find out how patient-provider relationships affect maternal vaccine uptake, particularly in the context of a lower middle- income country where limited research in this area exists.
