Refine and implement a standard process that provides clinical evaluation at admission, review and discharge for each patient. Clinical evaluation will lend to appropriate length of stay for patients with common diagnoses allowing for easier access into care and smoother transition back to the Primary Medical Home. Target reduction in length of stay (engaging those with less than 7 appointments that need longer treatment while shifting those who exceed standard 7 sessions back to PCP when appropriate such as primary dx ADHD).

“Often times we are talking about race when we really mean racism. The socially inflicted trauma of racism in medicine crafts interpretations of racial differences as a proclamation of racial deficiency. After the buildings are renamed, the flags come down, and blackface costumes are tucked away, we still go back to comfortable enclaves that do not promote conversation or understanding. Socially sanitizing environments does no good without transformative interventions."

The Rewarding Nature Of Provocation-Focused Rumination In Women With Borderline Personality Disorder: A Preliminary Fmri Investigation, Jessica R. Peters, David S. Chester, Erin C. Walsh, C. Nathan Dewall, Ruth A. Baer

Psychology Faculty Publications

Background: Understanding why individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD) ruminate on prior provocations, despite its negative outcomes, is crucial to improving interventions. Provocation-focused rumination may be rewarding in the short term by amplifying anger and producing feelings of justification, validation, and increased energy, while reducing self-directed negative affect. If provocation-focused rumination is utilized regularly as a rewarding emotion regulation strategy, it could result in increased activation in reward-related neural regions. The present pilot study examined neural correlates of provocation-focused rumination, relative to other forms of thought, in BPD.

Method: Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was utilized to examine this theory …

Adherence To Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors Among Medicare Part D Beneficiaries With Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, Chan Shen, Bo Zhao, Lei Liu, Ya-Chen Tina Shih

Clinical and Translational Science Institute

Background—Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) improve survival of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients dramatically; however, non-adherence to TKI therapy may lead to resistance to the therapy. They are very expensive and covered under Part D insurance for Medicare patients. The impact of low-income subsidy status and cost-sharing on adherence was not well studied in the literature among this group. Methods—Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registry data linked with Medicare Part D data from years 2007–2012 was used in this study. We identified 836 CML patients with Medicare Part D insurance coverage who were new TKI users. Treatment nonadherence was defined …

Netprophet 2.0: Mapping Transcription Factor Networks By Exploiting Scalable Data Resources, Yiming Kang, Hien-Haw Liow, Ezekiel J Maier, Michael R Brent

2010-2019 OA Pubs

MOTIVATION: Cells process information, in part, through transcription factor (TF) networks, which control the rates at which individual genes produce their products. A TF network map is a graph that indicates which TFs bind and directly regulate each gene. Previous work has described network mapping algorithms that rely exclusively on gene expression data and 'integrative' algorithms that exploit a wide range of data sources including chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing (ChIP-seq) of many TFs, genome-wide chromatin marks, and binding specificities for many TFs determined in vitro. However, such resources are available only for a few major model systems and cannot be easily …

Transspinal Direct Current Stimulation Produces Persistent Plasticity In Human Motor Pathways, Lynda M. Murray, Behdad Tahayori, Maria Knikou

Publications and Research

The spinal cord is an integration center for descending, ascending, and segmental neural signals. Noninvasive transspinal stimulation may thus constitute an effective method for concomitant modulation of local and distal neural circuits. In this study, we established changes in cortical excitability and input/output function of corticospinal and spinal neural circuits before, at 0–15 and at 30–45 minutes after cathodal, anodal, and sham transspinal direct current stimulation (tsDCS) to the thoracic region in healthy individuals. We found that intracortical inhibition was different among stimulation polarities, however remained unchanged over time. Intracortical facilitation increased after cathodal and anodal tsDCS delivered with subjects …

Guidewire Method For Measuring Local Left Ventricular Electrical Activation Time During Cardiac Resynchronization Implantation., Seth J Rials, Michele Pershing, Christy Collins

OhioHealth Research Institute Articles

The timing of local activation at left ventricular (LV) pacing leads is measured from the onset of the QRS complex to the peak of the LV electrogram (QLV). Pacing from the sites of late activation is associated with higher response rates to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). Prior studies have measured QLV from permanent pacing leads, or have used electroanatomic mapping systems. The current study compares QLV measurements made with a guidewire to those collected from permanent LV pacing leads positioned at the same venous site without the use of electroanatomic mapping systems. In this study, 20 patients undergoing CRT implantation …

It is clear that innate immune system status is altered in numerous neurodegenerative diseases. Human genetic studies have demonstrated that triggering receptor expressed in myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) coding variants have a strong association with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other neurodegenerative diseases. To more thoroughly understand the impact of TREM2 in vivo, we studied the behavioral and cognitive functions of wild-type (WT) and Trem2-/- (KO) mice during basal conditions and brain function in the context of innate immune stimulation with peripherally administered lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Early markers of neuroinflammation preceded Aif1 and Trem2 upregulation that occurred at later stages (24-48 h …

The excision of tumors by wide local excision is challenging because the mass must be removed entirely without ever viewing it directly. Positive margin rates in sarcoma resection remain in the range of 20% to 35% and are associated with increased recurrence and decreased survival. Fluorescence-guided surgery (FGS) may improve surgical accuracy and has been utilized in other surgical specialties. ABY-029, an anti-epidermal growth factor receptor Affibody molecule covalently bound to the near-infrared fluorophore IRDye 800CW, is an excellent candidate for future FGS applications in sarcoma resection; however, conventional methods with direct surface tumor visualization are not immediately applicable. Mathematical Modeling Of Nanoparticle Biodistribution, Prashant Dogra Jan 2018

Mathematical Modeling Of Nanoparticle Biodistribution, Prashant Dogra

Biomedical Sciences ETDs

The prospects of nanoparticle-based drug delivery and imaging have been hindered by insufficient understanding of the effects of nanoparticle physicochemical properties on their in vivo disposition. Here, we present an integrative mathematical modeling and in vivo imaging approach to quantify the relationship between nanoparticle physicochemical properties, namely, size, surface charge, and surface chemistry, on their in vivo disposition kinetics in healthy rats. We developed simple master equations in closed-form to accurately represent the time-dependent concentration of nanoparticles in different regions of the body and obtain functional relationships for predictive purpose to support rational design of nanomedicine. We further used …
