T Introduction: There are several unique characteristics in the epidemiology of prostate cancer (PrCA) that make it an interesting and important cancer to study. The first is that while prostate cancer is the most common cancer that men develop, it is one of the least common cancers that men die from. This indolent nature of PrCA has led to the idiom among health scientists that “men are more likely to die with PrCA than due to PrCA”. Advances in genomic technology and an increase in the number of gene-disease associations have helped reduce the number of individuals living without a diagnosis. Whole exome sequencing (WES) analyzes the entire human exome in an attempt to determine if there is a molecular etiology for individuals who remain undiagnosed after other clinical or molecular investigations. Still, WES leaves most individuals undiagnosed, resulting in feelings of disappointment and uncertainty. Individuals who remain undiagnosed after WES can subsequently undergo WES reanalysis later due to improvements in bioinformatics, software updates, and an increase in known genedisease associations. The purpose of this process improvement project is to determine efficiency of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) vs. 5-day blood pressure checks in a military treatment facility. The sample consists of male and female active duty soldiers ages 18 to 54 years without a previous diagnosis of hypertension (HTN). The soldiers were assigned to a unit that is physically and mentally challenging, has demanding training opportunities and duty requirements, and are rapidly deployable in support of peacekeeping, humanitarian and combat missions.

Background: Patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) have a two-fold increased risk of depression as compared to patients without CVD. According to the American Heart Association (AHA, 2016), there is no gold-standard procedure for screening for depression in cardiovascular patients. Screening for depression varies greatly across specialties and practices, often leaving a gap for detection and treatment of depression in cardiac patients. There are many depression screening tools available; however, the AHA recommends use of the patient health questionnaire (PHQ) screening tool. These daily experiences of prejudice and discriminatory behaviors can have an adverse impact on their mental health. •In 2012, our hospital expanded obstetrical services resulting in the delivery over 3700 infants per year.
•Approximately 35% of these infants had no relationship to a primary care physician with privileges at our hospital.
•These infants were either uninsured, Medicaid insured or privately insured but whose primary care physician did not have hospital privileges.
•Private Pediatricians “on call” were given these unassigned infants and were attempting to evaluate infants in the mornings, prior to seeing their scheduled office patients

This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Body Knowledge Questionnaire (BKQ), an instrument that measures weight management integration: an individual’s attitudes, preferences, and behaviors associated with weight self-management. The BKQ was revised following a pilot study demonstrating its validity and reliability, and new items were added based on data gathered through four focus groups of obese and normal-weight survey completers. Additional items were derived from the extant literature on weight management and integration. A panel of 30 health professionals who work in the area of weight management, bariatrics, and nutrition science reviewed the revised BKQ for content validity. Two …

Nigerian children under 5 years of age are over 15 times more at risk of death than their counterparts in developed regions of the world; the prevalence of miscarriage, an adverse pregnancy outcome (APO), was estimated at 49%. In the present study, the relationship between APO and under-5 mortality (U5M) in Nigeria was examined to determine if APO could be used as a reliable early warning indicator for U5M. Though a great deal of research about hypertension and minority groups has been published, no studies were located about hypertension in the Armenian American population, despite evidence of health disparities in this population. This study aims to detect high grade squamous intraepithelial cells (HSIL) by investigating HSIL associated biochemical changes in morphologically normal appearing intermediate and superficial cells using Raman spectroscopy. Raman spectra (n = 755) were measured from intermediate and superficial cells from negative cytology ThinPrep specimens (n = 18) and from morphologically normal appearing intermediate and superficial cells from HSIL cytology ThinPrep specimens (n = 17). Patients suffering from medication-refractory symptoms often undergo further treatment in the form of brain stimulation, e.g. electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), deep brain stimulation (DBS), or transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). These treatments are popular and have been shown to relieve various symptoms for patients with neurological conditions. Modulation of mitochondrial complex I during reperfusion reduces cardiac injury. Complex I exists in two structural states: active (A) and deactive (D) with transition from A→D during ischemia. Reperfusion reactivates D→A with an increase in ROS production. Metformin preserves the D-Form. Our aim was to study the contribution of maintenance of deactivation of complex I during early reperfusion by metformin to protect against ischemia reperfusion injury. Our results showed that metformin decreased H9c2 cardiomyoblast apoptosis and total cell death following simulated ischemia for six hours followed by reoxygenation for twenty four hours compared to untreated cells. Purpose: To understand parental ethnotheories (i.e., belief systems) and practices about preschoolers’ healthy eating guided by the developmental niche framework.

Design: Qualitative hermeneutic phenomenology.

Setting: Home.

Participants: Participants were 20 parents of preschool-age children ages 3 to 5 years, recruited from a quantitative investigation. A majority of the participants were white, female, married, well educated, and working full time.
