Orthodontic Treatment Combined With Maxillary Posterior Subapical Osteotomy In Severe Anterior Open Bite, Jui-Hsien Yang, Yun-Yun Wu

A 29-year-old woman presented with severe anterior open bite (−6 mm). Eight-month presurgical orthodontic treatment involving arch rounding and leveling was performed, with the upper arch treatment from canine to canine only. Bilateral maxillary posterior subapical osteotomy (PSO) for posterior intrusion was performed for 6-week fixation. Postsurgical orthodontic treatment followed, resulting in a total treatment time of 19 months. Cephalometric X-ray superimposition revealed that the anterior overbite was corrected by 9 mm (from -6mm to +3 mm), and the lower mandibular plane angle changed from 38.4° to 35.4°. Recombinant adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors are the most promising vehicles for therapeutic gene delivery to the retina. We are developing AAV-mediated expression of optogenetic tools in surviving inner retinal neurons as a potential strategy to restoring vision after the death of photoreceptor cells in retinal degeneration. Targeting optogeneitc tools, such as channelrhodopsin-2 (ChR2), to retinal bipolar cells (RBCs) is particularly attractive. In particular, our lab has recently developed an optimized mGluR6 promoter-based virus vector that can mainly target ChR2 to rod bipolar cells. African American women (AAW) suffer a higher breast cancer mortality burden than women of other ethnicities in the US. More likely to be diagnosed with aggressive subtypes resistant to therapy and with rapidly fatal course than European American women (EAW), AAW may benefit greatly from earlier detection of breast cancers. However, it remains difficult to predict with a high degree of accuracy which women will develop breast cancer. The general purpose of these studies is to investigate inflammation in diabetic retinopathy in an effort to identify key intervention points to develop as treatments. Firstly, we showed that the neuropeptide VIP displayed protective immunoregulatory effects on retinal endothelial cells cultured under high glucose conditions. This effect was carried out, in part through the VPAC2 receptor.

Next, we studied the β-adrenergic receptor agonist, Compound 49b, and its effect on the pro-resolving RvD1 pathway. The objective of the current study was to investigate the processability of Hot Melt Extrusion to formulate Ocular Inserts of Valacyclovir Hydrochloride and Evaluate its drug release in vitro and in vivo. Valacyclovir is the prodrug of Acyclovir, which is used in treatment of ocular keratitis and HSV infections. The bioavailability of the prodrug is better than the acyclovir and it is proved to permeate extensively through the corneal barrier. Anticoagulant rodenticides (ARs) are used to control rodents around homes, buildings, and in agriculture. They have been found widely in predatory and scavenging wildlife as a result of secondary exposure and less commonly in herbivores and omnivores from primary exposure. While predators and scavengers have been monitored for AR exposure, very little information is available about AR residues in edible muscle tissue of game animals. Game animals may be exposed to ARs through direct consumption of bait, ingestion of contaminated food or vegetation, or consumption of contaminated prey items. During the last decades, the ionic polymer-metal composite (IPMC) received much attention because of its potential capabilities, such as large displacement and flexible bending actuation. In this paper, a biomimetic flapping air vehicle was proposed by combining the superiority of ionic polymer metal composite with the bionic beetle flapping principle. The blocking force was compared between casted IPMC and IPMC. The flapping state of the wing was investigated and the maximum displacement and flapping angle were measured. Before beginning a race, athletes formulate a plan for how they want to approach the event. Depending on the given athlete and/or race, this plan may be highly developed or composed of vague ideas. Aspects of a race plan may be formulated due to “exercise duration, race dynamics, or environmental conditions” (Wu, Abbiss, Pieffer, Brisswalter, & Nosaka, 2014).
