BACKGROUND: Aberrant expression of microRNA-155 (miR-155) has been implicated in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and associated with clinical outcome.

PROCEDURE: We evaluated miR-155 expression in 198 children with normal karyotype AML (NK-AML) enrolled in Children's Oncology Group (COG) AML trial AAML0531 and correlated miR-155 expression levels with disease characteristics and clinical outcome. Patients were divided into quartiles (Q1-Q4) based on miR-155 expression level, and disease characteristics were then evaluated and correlated with miR-155 expression.

RESULTS: MiR-155 expression varied over 4-log10-fold range relative to its expression in normal marrow with a median expression level of 0.825 (range 0.043-25.630) for the entire …

Context: The recovery process after autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) can be challenging for patients and clinicians alike due to significant functional limitations and a lengthy healing time. Understanding patients' experiences during the recovery process may assist clinicians in providing more individualized care.

Objective: To explore and describe patients' experiences during the recovery process after ACI.

Design: Qualitative study.

Setting: Orthopaedic clinic.

Patients or Other Participants: Participants from a single orthopaedic practice who had undergone ACI within the previous 12 months were purposefully selected.

South Africa (SA) offers a post-delivery Child Support Grant (CSG), which could encompass support during pregnancy, informed by lessons learnt from similar grants.

This autoethnographic research delves into a mother’s experiences with her disabled son over thirty-five years. Beginning with a thick description of the crib accident that resulted in physical and cognitive disabilities that profoundly change the course of both mother and son’s life, this research chronicles the search for meaning, community, and healing as they negotiate the realms of medicine, education, career, family, and spirituality. By the close of the nineteenth century, Schools of Public Health (SPHs) began to emerge in western countries in response to major contemporary public health challenges. The Flexner Report (1910) emphasized the centrality of preventive medicine, sanitation, and public health measures in health professional education. The Alma Ata Declaration on Primary Health Care (PHC) in 1978 was a critical milestone, especially for low and middle-income countries (LMICs), conceptualizing a close working relationship between PHC and public health measures. The slogans are ubiquitous: "Only 'Yes' Means 'Yes"'" "Got Consent?", "Consent is Hot, Assault is Not!" Clear consent is the rule, but the meaning of sexual consent is far from clear. The current state of confusion is evident in the numerous competing views about what constitutes mental agreement (grudging acceptance or eager desire?) and what comprises performative consent (passive acquiescence or an enthusiastic "yes"?). This paper seeks to clear up the consent confusion. Purpose: Approximately 27 million adults are living with undiagnosed dementia worldwide. The purpose of this study was to learn about the experiences of adult children of elderly parents who were ultimately diagnosed with dementia.

Data sources: A descriptive qualitative design was used for identifying if there were prodromal signs or symptoms that preceded the more commonly known warning signs of dementia. Twelve, 60-min interviews were conducted over the telephone.

Conclusions: The overarching theme was: “Why didn't I know?” Subthemes were “We ignored it because we didn't want it to be,” “We thought it was grief,” and “They wouldn't diagnose dementia.” …

The study was conducted to determine the prevalence of bartonellosis in two hundred well-cared client-owned cats that have close relationship with their owners in Bangkok metropolitan area from November 2010 to November 2011. These cats had no clinical signs at the time of presentation and no visual flea infestation. Blood collection was performed and cultured in 5% rabbit blood agar. Species of Bartonella spp. was identified with Polymerase Chain Reaction and gene sequencing. Results demonstrated that eleven out of the two hundred cats were positive for bartonellosis. Enterococcus gallinarum and E. casseliflavus possess intrinsic vancomycin resistance, which is mediated by vanC-1 and vanC-2 gene clusters, respectively. The VanC resistance phenotype is expressed inducibly or constitutively. This study characterized the expression types for vancomycin resistance in 23 porcine E. gallinarum and 19 porcine E. casseliflavus isolates with vancomycin minimum inhibitory concentrations between 4 and 16 μg/ml. The vanSC and vanSC-2 genes were sequenced and the deduced amino acid sequences were compared to those of the inducible and constitutive resistance reference strains. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of aminoglycoside resistance genes in S. Typhimurium isolated from poultry carcasses in Iran, and to reveal the most prevalent patterns of antimicrobial resistance. A total number of 300 samples of poultry carcasses were analyzed. Salmonella was isolated from 245 samples (81.66%). Multiplex PCR showed that 56.3% of the samples belonged to serovar S. Typhimurium and the remainder (43.6%) contained the rest of serovars. The highest rate of drug resistance was observed for tetracycline (97.0%), nalidixic acid (87.0%) and amoxicillinclavulanic acid (67.4%).
