How We Care: Provider Perspectives On Services For Vietnamese Elderly In Boston’S Dorchester Neighborhood, Loan Thi Dao

The need for culturally competent care for the elderly is of growing concern for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities and health providers. In 2012, a preliminary study was conducted to ascertain the perspectives of service providers about the cultural competency of services for elderly Vietnamese Americans in Boston, Massachusetts. The study includes interviews with key informants representing the five major community health centers (CHC) programs in Boston’s Vietnamese enclave in the Dorchester neighborhood. The αvβ3 integrin is known to be highly upregulated during cancer progression and promotes a migratory and metastatic phenotype in many types of tumors. We hypothesized that the αvβ3 integrin is transferred through exosomes and, upon transfer, has the ability to support functional aberrations in recipient cells. Here, for the first time, it is demonstrated that αvβ3 is present in exosomes released from metastatic PC3 and CWR22Pc prostate cancer cells. Exosomal β3 is transferred as a protein from donor to nontumorigenic and tumorigenic cells as β3 protein or mRNA levels remain unaffected upon transcription or translation inhibition in recipient cells. …

This study investigated whether intact young Black MSM differed from their circumcised counterparts regarding condom use behaviors and perceptions and HIV/Chlamydia/gonorrhea. Young Black MSM completed a self-interview, including a pictorial item assessing circumcision status and measures of condom use. Twenty-seven percent of 388 participants reported not being circumcised. With one exception, no associations tested approached significance. The mean frequency of unprotected insertive anal sex for circumcised men was about twice as high compared to those intact (P = .04). Intact young Black MSM did not differ from circumcised men relative to prevalence of STIs (including HIV) or condom use behaviors …

Objective: Review of obstetric cases admitted to the intensive care unit.
Design: Ten year retrospective review of individual patients' medical records.
Participants: Records of obstetric patients admitted from 2005-2014.
Setting: Aga Khan University Hospital Karachi.
Main outcome Measures: Diagnosis at the time of admission, associated risk factors, and intervention required aspects of management and rate of mortality.
Findings: A total of 194 obstetric patients were admitted out of which 86.2% of patients had ventilator support. Mortality was not seen to be significantly associated with parity and antenatal/postnatal status. The median age of patients was 34 years, minimum length of stay …

Cisplatin (CSP) is a potent and widely used chemotherapeutic agent. However, clinical efficacy of CSP is compromised due to the elicitation of nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity. In this study, I have investigated the nephroprotective effects of a phytochemical – genipin (GP) isolated from gardenia flower (Gardenia jasminoides), on a murine model of cisplatin-induced nephropathy. CSP-induced renal tissue injury was characterized by elevated levels of serum blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine (Cr) and cystatin-C. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic pathology of the central nervous system, characterized by inflammation, demyelination, and neurodegeneration. The prevalence and incidence rates of MS are on the rise worldwide. What causes MS is unknown. However, it is widely accepted that MS occurs in genetically susceptible individuals exposed to certain environmental factors. Sero-epidemiological data suggest a strong association between Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and MS. EBV is one of the commonest viruses in the human population with ~90% global seropositivity. Purpose—Network analysis has become increasingly popular in epidemiologic research, but the accuracy of data key to constructing risk networks is largely unknown. Using network data from people who use drugs (PWUD), the study examined how accurately PWUD reported their network members’ (i.e., alters’) names and ages.

Methods—Data were collected from 2008 to 2010 from 503 PWUD residing in rural Appalachia. Network ties (n=897) involved recent (past 6 months) sex, drug co-usage, and/or social support. RNA nanotechnology is rapidly emerging. Due to advantageous pharmacokinetics and favorable in vivo biodistribution, RNA nanoparticles have shown promise in targeted delivery of therapeutics. RNA nanotechnology applies bottom-up assembly, thus elucidation of the mechanism of interaction between multiple components is of fundamental importance. The tendency of diminishing concern about RNA instability has accelerated by the finding of the novel thermostable three-way junction (3WJ) motif of the phi29 DNA-packaging motor. เหตุผลของการทำวิจัย : ผู้ว่างงานย่อมเผชิญกับสภาวะความเครียด ซึ่งเป็นผลมาจากการขาดรายได้หลักที่เคยได้รับอย่างต่อเนื่องทุก ๆ เดือน รวมถึงภาระค่าใช้จ่ายอื่น ๆ ที่ผู้ว่างงานต้องรับภาระและความกดดันจากสังคมรอบข้าง และจากการทบทวนวรรณกรรมที่ผ่านมา ผู้วิจัยพบว่ามีการศึกษาเกี่ยวกับความเครียดและพฤติกรรมการจัดการความเครียดของผู้ประกันตนกรณีว่างงานค่อนข้างน้อยวัตถุประสงค์ : เพื่อศึกษาระดับและปัจจัยที่เกี่ยวข้องกับความเครียด และพฤติกรรมการจัดการความเครียดของผู้ประกันตนกรณีว่างงานของสำนักงานประกันสังคมในกรุงเทพมหานครรูปแบบการวิจัย : การศึกษานี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงพรรณนาศึกษา ณ เวลาใดเวลาหนึ่งสถานที่ทำการศึกษา : สำนักงานจัดหางานในกรุงเทพมหานครจำนวน 3 แห่งตัวอย่างและวิธีการศึกษา : ศึกษาจากผู้ประกันตนที่มาขอรับสิทธิประโยชน์กรณีว่างงานของสำนักงานประกันสังคมในกรุงเทพมหานคร จำนวน 225 คนโดยใช้แบบสอบถามข้อมูลส่วนบุคคลทั่วไป แบบประเมินและวิเคราะห์ความเครียดด้วยตนเอง และแบบสอบถามพฤติกรรมการจัดการความเครียดวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลใช้สถิติเชิงพรรณนาสถิติเชิงอนุมาน ได้แก่ t-test,One-way ANOVA และทำนายปัจจัยโดยใช้ stepwise multipleregression analysisผลการศึกษา : พบว่าประมาณร้อยละ 57 ของผู้ประกันตนกรณีว่างงานมีระดับความเครียดอยู่ในเกณฑ์ปกติ ร้อยละ 23 มีความเครียดต่ำกว่าเกณฑ์ปกติ ร้อยละ 15 มีความเครียดสูงกว่าปกติเล็กน้อยและร้อยละ 3.1มีความเครียดสูงกว่าปกติมาก ซึ่งพบว่าเพศหญิงมีระดับความเครียดสูงกว่าเพศชายอย่างมีนัยสำคัญ ทางสถิติ ในส่วนของพฤติกรรมการจัดการความเครียดพบว่าผู้ประกันตนกรณีว่างงาน ส่วนใหญ่มีพฤติกรรมการจัดการความเครียดระดับปานกลาง (ร้อยละ 85.8)ส่วนปัจจัยที่เกี่ยวข้องกับพฤติกรรมการจัดการความเครียด ได้แก่ เพศอายุ ระดับการศึกษา รายได้ก่อนว่างงาน และการสูบบุหรี่ โดยกลุ่มตัวอย่างที่เป็นเพศหญิง, ผู้ที่มีอายุน้อย, ผู้ที่มีระดับการศึกษาปริญญาตรี, ผู้ที่มีรายได้ก่อนว่างงานสูงกว่า 25,000 บาท และผู้ที่ไม่สูบบุหรี่มีพฤติกรรมการจัดการความ เครียดที่ดีกว่า อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ เมื่อเปรียบเทียบกับกลุ่มอื่น ๆ ในปัจจัยเดียวกันสรุปผลการวิจัย : ผู้ประกันตนกรณีว่างงานส่วนใหญ่ มีระดับความเครียดอยู่ในเกณฑ์ปกติ และมีพฤติกรรมการจัดการความเครียดระดับปานกลางเนื่องจากกลุ่มตัวอย่างเป็นผู้ประกันตนที่มาขอรับสิทธิประโยชน์กรณีว่างงานที่สำนักจัดหางาน ซึ่งยังว่างงานมาไม่นานนัก (อยู่ในระหว่าง1 เดือนถึง 6 เดือน) และยังมีรายได้จากสิทธิประโยชน์ทดแทนกรณีว่างงานหรือเลิกจ้าง ส่วนปัจจัยทำนายพฤติกรรมการจัดการความเครียดได้แก่ รายได้ก่อนว่างงานอายุและเพศ.

เหตุผลของการทำวิจัย : การสูบบุหรี่ถือเป็นปัญหาในทุกสังคม ที่ส่งผลเสียต่อตนเองและคนรอบข้าง ซึ่งคนรอบข้างยังจะได้รับสารพิษที่มาจากควันบุหรี่ โดยที่ตนเองไม่ได้เป็นผู้สูบและไม่สามารถเลือกปฏิเสธได้ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งหญิงตั้งครรภ์ที่ได้รับควันบุหรี่ อาจส่งผลกระทบในหลาย ๆ ด้านวัตถุประสงค์ : เพื่อทราบค่าความชุกของหญิงตั้งครรภ์ที่ได้รับควันบุหรี่มือสองในระหว่างตั้งครรภ์และศึกษาปัจจัยที่สัมพันธ์กับการได้รับควันบุหรี่มือสองในระหว่างตั้งครรภ์รูปแบบการวิจัย : การวิจัยเชิงพรรณา ณ จุดเวลาใดเวลาหนึ่งสถานที่ทำการศึกษา : โรงพยาบาลจุฬาลงกรณ์ สภากาชาดไทยตัวอย่างและวิธีการศึกษา : เก็บข้อมูลจากหญิงตั้งครรภ์ที่มีอายุครรภ์ระหว่าง 13 - 24 สัปดาห์ที่มารับบริการฝากครรภ์แผนกสูตินรีเวชกรรม ที่โรงพยาบาล จุฬาลงกรณ์สภากาชาดไทย โดยใช้แบบสอบถามข้อมูลส่วนตัว และตรวจปัสสาวะโดยชุดตรวจ Direct barbituric acid (DBA) method สถิติที่ใช้ ได้แก่descriptive statistic, Chi – square test และ logistic regressionanalysisผลการศึกษา : หญิงตั้งครรภ์ที่ศึกษาทั้งหมด 296 คน หญิงตั้งครรภ์ที่ได้รับควันบุหรี่มือสองจากที่บ้านและที่ทำงานในระหว่างตั้งครรภ์มีจำนวน 116 คนร้อยละ 39.19 สำหรับปัจจัยที่สัมพันธ์กับการได้รับควันบุหรี่มือสองในระหว่างตั้งครรภ์ ได้แก่ อายุน้อย รายได้ไม่เพียงพอ ระดับการศึกษาที่ต่ำกว่าปริญญาตรี รวมถึงการมีสมาชิกในบ้านที่สูบบุหรี่ และสูบบุหรี่ในบ้าน โดยสมาชิกเป็นญาติใกล้ชิด เช่น สามี บิดา มารดา ญาติใกล้ชิดที่สูบบุหรี่ การสัมผัสการสูบบุหรี่เป็นเวลา 30 นาทีหรือมากกว่าและที่ความถี่อย่างน้อยสัปดาห์ละครั้งเกี่ยวข้องกับการสูบบุหรี่มือสองสรุป : จากการศึกษาพบว่าหญิงตั้งครรภ์ที่ได้รับควันบุหรี่มือสองมีค่าความชุกร้อยละ 39.19 โดยปัจจัยที่สัมพันธ์กับการได้รับควันบุหรี่มือสองในระหว่างตั้งครรภ์เป็นสิ่งที่ไม่สามารถควบคุมได้ เช่น ปัจจัยส่วนบุคคลงานวิจัยนี้พบว่าคนในครอบครัวที่สูบบุหรี่เป็นปัจจัยหลักที่ทำให้หญิงตั้งครรภ์ได้สัมผัสควันบุหรี่มือสอง.

When sintering us used to treat tablet formulations containing polyethylene oxide (PEO), the polymer particles are able to form stronger bonds thereby increase tablet tensile strength. This increase in strength can make it more difficult for an abuser to break, chew, or grind opioid tablets. A mechanistic study was implemented to understand the key sintering factors that influence tensile strength.

Food insecurity and poor dietary consumption continue to impact low-income populations in the U.S. However, communities are developing ways to address it at the local level. Community Food Security Initiatives (CFSI) focus on increasing a sustainable, healthy food supply and food system while addressing food insecurity and dietary quality within a community.

The purpose of this study was two-fold: (1) explore CFSIs in low-income areas in a metropolitan Midwest city and (2) examine the effects of the initiatives along with other social-cognitive factors on fruit and vegetable consumption in persons participating in local CFSIs.

Objective: To describe the informatics activities performed by and for local health departments.

Design: Analysis of data from the 2015 Informatics Capacity and Needs Assessment Survey of local health departments conducted by the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health at Georgia Southern University in collaboration with the National Association of County & City Health Officials.

Participants: 324 local health departments.

Context: Public health practice is information-intensive and information-driven. Public health informatics is a nascent discipline, and most public health practitioners lack necessary skills in this area.

Objective: To describe the staff development needs of local health departments (LHDs) related to informatics.

Design: Data came from the 2015 Informatics Capacity and Needs Assessment Survey, conducted by Georgia Southern University in collaboration with the National Association of County & City Health Officials.

Participants: A total of 324 LHDs from all 50 states completed the survey (response rate: 50%).

Background: Informatics capacity building is resource and personnel intensive. Many local health departments (LHDs) face tradeoffs between using their resources to carry out existing mandates and using resources to build their capacity, for example, through informatics, to deliver essential services in a more effective and efficient manner.
