Mastocytosis is a heterogeneous group of diseases characterized by the abnormal infiltration of mast cells in the skin and sometimes other organs. This study aimed to compare the demographic, clinical, and histopathological findings of cutaneous mastocytosis with onset in children and in adults. To describe the anesthetic management and early results of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in a single center in Turkey. Materials and methods: We evaluated 79 (54 females, 25 males; mean age: 76 ± 9 years) consecutive symptomatic patients with severe aortic stenosis who underwent TAVI under general anesthesia between July 2011 and September 2012. A 35 days old neonate with d-loop transposition of great arteries, underwent an arterial switch operation following which he developed hypotension attributed to left ventricular failure. During cardiopulmonary resuscitation decision was made to place him on cardiac bypass again. Due to limited resources and unavailability of a specialized extracorporeal membrane oxygenator machine, the CPB was modified and converted an ECMO. The neonate was successfully decannulated after 72 hours and discharged home after 3 weeks of the operation without any sequel. Abnormal accumulation of the presynaptic protein alpha-synuclein (aSyn) is associated with both familial and sporadic forms of Parkinson's disease. ATP13A2 is a lysosomal protein involved in protein degradation, including aSyn. Mice with a loss of ATP13A2 function develop age-related sensorimotor impairments and, in the brain, enhanced lipofuscin and insoluble aSyn accumulation. To further examine the potential interaction between aSyn and ATP13A2, aSyn overexpressing mice (aSyn) were crossbred with Atp13a2-defeicient (13a2) mice. The purpose of this study was to conduct perceptual analyses, using the initial two-second portions, of prolonged vowels /a/, /i/, and /o/. Two groups of adolescents and young adults were analyzed- one group consisting of 20 individuals with Friedreich's ataxia who were compared to 20 individuals with normal voice (control participants). A trained group of 10 graduate students listened to 132 vowel samples (3 vowels X 40 participants, + 12 samples (10%) for reliability purposes) for a total of 132 perceptual judgments.
