Light cured adhesives have gained more popularity since their introduction more than three decades ago. Photo-polymerization allows more thorough curing on demand and thus facilitates better control of bracket placement. With new technologies, recently developed curing lights promise even more improvement. These systems are not only more sophisticated, but also more sensitive to the types of resins and clinical application. Specific comparison studies of the new systems in the orthodontic bonding are lacking because most of curing lights are originally designed for general dentistry.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to compare elderly non-fallers and fallers for differences in the following: (1) mean functional reach (FR), (2) mean anterior limits of stability (LOS), (3) mean posterior LOS, and (4) mean sensory organization test (SOT) composite score. The following correlations were tested for significance separately in the sample of non-fallers and the sample of fallers: (1) FR and anterior LOS, (2) FR and posterior LOS, (3) FR and SOT composite score, (4) anterior LOS and the SOT composite score, and (5) posterior LOS and the SOT composite score.

This thesis attempts to use a retrospective evidenced base review of a series of five patients afflicted with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and its inherent dento-facial deformity as a basis for establishing a proposal for a surgical protocol.

A review of pertinent and current literature is performed in describing the disease process as it relates to epidemiology, histopathophysiology, immunology, and clinical presentation. General treatment options are reviewed for the acutely and chronically afflicted patients as well as specific approaches to dento-facial reconstruction.

This study was conducted to examine, retrospectively, orthodontic and orthopedic changes resulting from quad helix expansion therapy in mixed and permanent dentition stages. Twenty-one subjects with an average age of 10.2 years who experienced an expansion of at least 3 mm with the quad helix appliance were selected for this study. The subjects were evaluated according to facial type and age for both short and long-term stability. Since the introduction of bonded orthodontic brackets in the early 1960's spontaneous debonding has been a constant nemesis. Most attempts to avoid this problem by orthodontic manufactures have focused on "bond strength" issue. Whether they chose to address the materials, the bracket base or both, the common method used to evaluate improvements entailed the use of just one testing apparatus: a static universal testing machine such as the Instron.

This study is [sic] introduces a new extension of Euclidean Distance Matrix Analysis (EDMA) as applied to growth prediction analysis. Using EDMA eliminates the presupposition of a set growth pattern, which is introduced by traditional superimposition techniques. When EDMA is extended to analyze prediction methodologies, using a non-age-matched growth sample, some shortcomings become evident. These involve bootstrapping techniques, relative difference in growth, and absence of clinical, real world measure. Many cancer patients experience adverse chemotherapy-related side effects. The present study examined whether the perception that one can control and effectively cope with her treatment for breast cancer mitigate against any nausea and vomiting that she may experience in anticipation of chemotherapy treatments. Seventy-five women with breast cancer completed the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale - Form C, the Krantz Health Opinion Survey, the Ways of Coping Scale - Revised, and the Morrow Assessment of Nausea and Emesis. Determining the consequences of such societal-level changes for adolescent development presents formidable challenges. Social change on one or more dimensions must be documented, the complex processes through which social change may affect adolescents must be identified, and the hypothesized causal processes must be linked empirically to adolescent outcomes. In this chapter, we discuss these challenges and the conceptual issues they raise. We begin with one example of social change and use it as a springboard for discussing four questions:

Aim:
To observe the frequency of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and its association with Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) infection.
Setting:
This study included consecutive cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, which were diagnosed in the Department of Pathology at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi in the period of two years (1996-97).
Methods:
These tumors were initially evaluated on H&E stained sections. The tumors showing evidence of keratinization were excluded from the study. The Epstein Barr Virus was detected with the help of Polymerase chain reaction in formalin fixed, paraffin embedded tissue sections.

Aims: To carry out an audit ascertaining the importance of condition of lymph node specimen, submission of clinical history including site of biopsy and imrnunohistochemcial studies on conclusiveness of diagnosis made.

Methodology: Computer records of the Aga Khan University Hospital, Histopathology Laboratory were used to analyze all cases of lymphoproliferative malignancies presented at the hospital from 1992 to 1998.

Five sets of testes and male genital ducts of Siamese crocodiles, aged 3-4 years were collected and processed by the histologic technique. The tissues were cut 5 micrometres thick and stained with H&E, PAS and Masson’s trichrome methods. The sections were observed under a light microscopic. The testes were surrounded by fibrous connective tissue, with the tunica albuginea and their septum separating the organs into lobules. The testes consisted of packed seminiferous tubules ; the lumen of tubules consisted of various stages of spermatogenic and Sertoli cells. Objective: Because the percentage of missing portion sizes was large in the Aerobics Center Longitudinal Study (ACLS), careful consideration of the accuracy of standard portion sizes was necessary. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the consequences of using standard portion size instead of reported portion sizes on subjects' nutrient intake.

Methods: In 2307 men and 411 women, nutrient intake calculated from a 3-day dietary record using reported portion sizes was compared with nutrient intake calculated from the same record in which standard portion sizes were substituted for reported portion sizes.

Conflicting Bureaucracies, Conflicted Work: Dilemmas In Case Management For Homeless People With Mental Illness, Linda E. Francis

This ethnographic study finds a case management agency torn between the rules of two conflicting bureaucracies. Funded by a federal grant, the agency is administered by the county, and the regulations of the two systems turn out to be incompatible. This conflict creates dilemmas in providing services to clients: meeting eligibility criteria for services from the federal grant meant the clients did not meet the eligibility criteria for many County services. Agency staff reacted to this dilemma by bending rules, finding loopholes, and investing extra time and emotional labor in each client. Three hundred Shaver starbo, broiler, 5-day-old chicks were divided into 3 groups and given in group 1 sterile water, group 2 olive oil and group 3 aflatoxin B1. The effect of aflatoxin B1(5mg/kg) after the single oral dose was studied, observing clinical signs, blood chemistry, pathology, and excretion levels in faeces over a period of 10 days. Chicks in group 3 showed depression and decreased feed intake. Blood chemistry, especially blood urea nitrogen (BUN) was significantly different between the three groups although still in the normal range. Gross pathology revealed petechial hemorrhages developing on day 2 (87.5 %) and pale …

An 8 year-old male mongrel dog and 12 year-old male German Shepherd had a 10 x 10 cm mass and 15 x 10 cm mass located in the mandibular region. The encapsulated firm white masses had multiple cysticlike nodules filled with mucous. Histopathology revealed clusters of pleomorphic, large, round to oval shaped cells, irregular ovoid to spindle nuclei with highly mitotic figures that showed osteoid and bony formation. The neoplastic cells were immunoreactive in some parts for vimentin and cytokeratin but not for desmin, α-SMA and S-100 protein. Hyperplastic salivary gland cells were also present. This study mainly examined neuromuscular function, occlusal index, and centric relation-centric occlusion (CR-CO) discrepancy of 23 orthodontically treated patients. Phase I, craniofacial anomalous, and orthognathnic surgery cases were excluded from the study. Record taking was done in 2 sessions: (1) at the time of deband and (2) 3-4 months later. Records taken at each session included facial and intraoral photographs, impressions, CR wax bites, a facebow, and surface EMG (sEMG) recordings.

In today's fast-paced world, repetitive activity on the job has become very demanding. Many workers are suffering from injuries known as cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs). Job rotation can be an effective and powerful tool when seeking to minimize CTDs by allowing workers to experience different activities, thereby distributing the physical demands on the workers' bodies.

A case study was conducted on a northwestern New York manufacturing facility to identify the presence of excessive work stressors and to formulate potential corrective actions, including an analysis of their current job rotation system.
