Many researchers have examined the issue of college students and AIDS. Most have come to the same conclusion, that students know how to protect themselves but don't see AIDS as personal threat to their lives. As colleges become more diverse and more students are able to attend college, these issues probably will become more complex. Coupled with diversity issues, AIDS has now become known as a chronic rather than deadly disease, as a result of progress made toward treating AIDS and through early detection.

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อเปรียบเทียบการรั่วซึมของวัสดุบูรณะฟันชั่วคราว 3 แบบ คือ การใช้ CAVIT-G ร่วมกับ CAVIT,CAVIT-G ร่วมกับ KETAC-SILVER และ Caviton ร่วมกับ IRM วัสดุและวิธีการ โดยใช้ฟันกรามใหญ่ล่างแท้ที่ไม่ผุและปลายรากปิด จํานวน 36 ปี ทําการกรอช่องเปิดเข้าสู่โพรง เนื้อเยื่อในฟันเป็นลักษณะ class II cavity occluso mesial ในฟัน 33 ซี่ แล้วอุดด้วยวัสดุที่ต้องการทดสอบ กลุ่ม ละ 10 ซี่ ส่วนกลุ่มควบคุมที่ให้ผลบวก อุดด้วยกัตตาเปอร์ชา 3 ซี่ และกลุ่มควบคุมที่ให้ผลลบซึ่งไม่ได้กรอช่องเปิด เข้าสู่โพรงเนื้อเยื่อในฟันอีก 3 ซี่ จากนั้นทายาทาเล็บชนิดใส 3 ชั้นเคลือบผิวฟัน นําฟันมาแช่น้ําลายเทียมที่อุณหภูมิ 37°C เป็นเวลา 1 วัน แล้วนํามาทํา thermocycling ที่อุณหภูมิ 5 ±2°C เป็นเวลา 30 วินาที และที่อุณหภูมิ 55 ± 2°C เป็นเวลา 30 วินาที ทําซ้ำ 90 รอบ จากนั้นนํามาแช่ในน้ำลายเทียมที่อุณหภูมิ 37°C ต่ออีก 6 วัน ต่อ มาแช่ในสารละลายเมทธิลีนบลู ความเข้มข้นร้อยละ 2 ที่อุณหภูมิห้องเป็นเวลา 7 วัน เมื่อครบกําหนดนําฟันมาตัด ตามยาวในแนวใกล้กลาง-ไกลกลาง (mesio-distal) แล้วนํามาส่องด้วยกล้องจุลทรรศน์สเตอริโอชนิดดูด้วยแสงเพื่อวัดระดับการรั่วซึมของสี ผลการทดลอง การรั่วซึมของสีบนด้านบดเคี้ยว (occlusal) มีการรั่วซึมไม่แตกต่างกันทั้ง 3 กลุ่ม การรั่วซึมของสี บนด้านข้าง (proximal) ของกลุ่มที่อุดด้วย CAVIT-G ร่วมกับ CAVIT มีการรั่วซึมน้อยกว่ากลุ่มที่อุดด้วย CAVIT- …

The aim of this paper is to illustrate a method for identifying macroscopic anatomical differences among the brains of different populations of subjects. The method involves spatially normalizing the structural MR images of a number of subjects so that they all conform to the same stereotactic space. Multivariate statistics are then applied to the parameters describing the estimated nonlinear deformations that ensue. To illustrate the method, we compared the gross morphometry of male and female subjects. We also assessed brain asymmetry, the effect of handedness, and interactions among these effects.

Relative deprivation and group consciousness theories differ in their predictions of how personal discrimination and personal discontent will be related to taking collective action. According to relative deprivation theory, assessments of personal status should be unrelated to taking collective action.

In contrast, group consciousness theories suggest that while perceiving personal discrimination is necessary for collective action to occur, feelings of personal discontent may inhibit it. Female students completed questionnaires assessing their perceptions of, and affective responses to personal discrimination, as well as their participation in collective actions. The purpose of this investigation was to determine if death education has an impact on children's understanding of death. This study was a non-randomized trial of a single educational session on death concepts of 38 second grade children (mean age 7.78 years). The Smilansky Death Concept Questionnaire, a validated and published interviewing tool, was administered pre and post intervention to all study subjects to evaluate their understanding of death. This intervention was a story on death and a peer group discussion.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae csg2Δ mutants accumulate the sphingolipid inositolphosphorylceramide, which renders the cells Ca²⁺-sensitive. Temperature-sensitive mutations that suppress the Ca²⁺ sensitivity of csg2Δ mutants were isolated and characterized to identify genes that encode sphingolipid synthesis enzymes. These temperature-sensitive csg2Δ suppressors (tsc) fall into 15 complementation groups. The TSC10/YBR265w gene was found to encode 3-ketosphinganine reductase, the enzyme that catalyzes the second step in the synthesis of phytosphingosine, the long chain base found in yeast sphingolipids. 3-Ketosphinganine reductase (Tsc10p) is essential for growth in the absence of exogenous dihydrosphingosine or phytosphingosine. Disease And Water Supply: The Case Of Cholera In 19th Century Iran, Amir A. Afkhami

This paper explores why Iran was a particularly fertile ground for repeated visitation of cholera in the 19th century. Along with certain unique Iranian cultural and religious factors, the author demonstrates how Iranian urban ecology, particularly the qanat system, contributed to the fatal spread of the epidemic. These multi-faceted conditions, the author concludes, resulted in distinct modes of disease transmission and mortality in Iran.

A Prolonged Outbreak Of Shigella Sonnei Infections In Traditionally Observant Jewish Communities In North America Caused By A Molecularly Distinct Bacterial Subtype, Jeremy Sobel, Daniel N. During 1994–1996, Shigella sonnei outbreaks occurred in 8 North American traditionally observant Jewish communities. These communities remain relatively separate from neighboring populations while maintaining close contact by travel with coreligionists in other cities. Epidemiologic investigations suggested community-to-community transmission via travel. Outbreak-related and control isolates of S. sonnei from each city were subtyped by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) to confirm an epidemiologic linkage between outbreaks. Forty-three (94%) of 46 outbreak-related isolates had closely related PFGE patterns, constituting a single subtype; 33 (94%) of 35 control isolates demonstrated unrelated PFGE patterns. The Community Counseling Aides (CCA) project operating with support from the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) in Uganda, is a government initiative being carried out in collaboration with local communities. As the Ministry of Health seeks to develop local capacity to support and operate these efforts at the community level, it has identified the need to improve the skills of local project staff so that they may begin to assume the responsibility for monitoring and evaluating their own program performance. Before 1986, the Common Law provided that physicians and hospitals had no duty to admit or treat persons who sought their care except in limited circumstances. Congress enacted The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) to curb this so-called patient-dumping problem. EMTALA provides, essentially, that Medicare-participating hospitals must treat all patients who arrive in emergency conditions.

This article first discusses the patient-dumping problem and how EMTALA has provoked many hospitals to curtail their emergency facilities in order to avoid treating indigent and uninsured patients. The Article then proceeds to analyze the specifics of EMTALA’s main statutory provision, Section …

Fish and shellfish are a beneficial food source due to their high protein content, low saturated fat content, and low cholesterol content; they possess beneficial omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants such as vitamin E and selenium. Recent studies identified a decreased risk of sudden cardiac death in seafood consumers. Per capita seafood consumption increased 27% from 1975 to 1990, with nearly 95% of the U.S. population consuming some kind of fish or shellfish product each year. Clear cell sarcoma of the kidney (CCSK) and Congenital mesoblastic nephroma (CMN) are both pediatric renal tumors that differ from Wilms' tumor based on their distinctive histopathologic characteristics and clinical behavior. CCSK is a very malignant tumor characterized by a propensity for bone metastases, contrasting the relatively benign course characteristic of the majority of Wilms' tumors. CMN, in contrast, is a tumor of the newborn usually diagnosed within the first three months of life that is generally cured with surgery alone.
