ทําการทดสอบการแพร่เชื้อไวรัสโรคปากและเท้าเปื่อยในโคอมโรค โดยเลี้ยงโคตัวรับ ซึ่งไม่มีแอนติบอดีต่อไวรัสโรคปากและเท้าเปื่อยและต่อ Virus Infection Associated (VIA) แอนติเจน จำนวน 4 ตัว รวมฝูงกับโคตัวให้ซึ่งเป็นโคที่หายป่วยจากโรคปากและเท้าเปื่อย ชนิดเอเชียวัน มีแอนติบอดีต่อไวรัสโรคปากและเท้าเปื่อยและต่อ VIA แอนติเจน และ/หรือ ให้ผลบวกต่อการแยกเชื้อไวรัส จากตัวอย่าง oesophageal pharyngeal (o/p) จำนวน 12 ตัว โดยแบ่งระยะเวลารวมฝูงเป็น 7, 6, 3 และ 2 เดือน ไม่มีสัตว์เลี้ยงอยู่โดยรอบในรัศมี 15 กม. ผลการทดลองพบว่า สามารถตรวจพบไวรัสโรคปากและเท้าเปื่อย ชนิดเอเชียวัน จากตัวอย่าง o/p ของโคตัวรับทั้ง 4 ตัว ในช่วงระยะเวลา 2-4 เดือนแรก หลังเริ่มการทดลอง และพบ แอนติบอดีต่อโรคปากและเท้าเปื่อยชนิดดังกล่าวในช่วงระยะเวลา 4-11 เดือนหลังการทดลอง ส่วนแอนติบอดีต่อ VIA แอนติเจน ให้ผลลบตลอดการทดลองและไม่พบอาการของโรค ปากและเท้าเปื่อย

Family Functioning And Psychological Well-Being In Vietnamese Adolescents, Quang Duong Tran, Cheryl A. Richey

This paper presents an exploratory study that examines the influences of family functioning on the psychological well-being in a sample of Vietnamese adolescents. Thirty Vietnamese families from the King County area in the state of Washington participated in this study. Thirty adolescents between 13 and 19 years of age and 53 parents (27fathers and 26 mothers) responded to self-reported questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted to provide a descriptive "picture" of family and individual characteristics associated with Vietnamese adolescents' psychological well-being. ค่านิยมในการบริโภคนมพร้อมดื่มในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร, สุวรรณา กิจภากรณ์

สำรวจค่านิยมในการดื่มนมพร้อมดื่มจากประชาชนในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร 13 เขตเลือกตั้ง จำนวน 1,427 คน เป็นเพศชายร้อยละ 47.6 และเพศหญิงร้อยละ 52.4 ในเดือน กันยายน พ.ศ. 2538 โดยนิสิตสัตวแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย จำนวน 73 คน การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลตั้งอยู่บนฐานร้อยละของผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามในหัวข้อนั้น ๆ โดยใช้โปรแกรม SPSSPC ผลการสำรวจพบว่าประชาชนร้อยละ 90.2 นิยมดื่มผลิตภัณฑ์นมพร้อมดื่ม ใน จำนวนนี้ร้อยละ 45.6 นิยมดื่มนมสดพร้อมดื่มที่ผลิตด้วยกรรมวิธียูเอชที ตามด้วยนมหมัก (นมเปรี้ยว) และนมพาสเจอร์ไรซ์ ร้อยละ 26.4 และ 21.0 ตามลำดับ ผู้บริโภคร้อยละ 39.7 ดื่มเป็นประจำทุกวัน ร้อยละ 21.3 และ 17.3 ดม 3-4 และ 1-2 วัน/สัปดาห์ เหตุผลที่ ผู้บริโภคเลือกดื่มเนื่องจากทราบว่าน้ํานมมีประโยชน์ต่อร่างกายร้อยละ 72.3 ตามด้วยความ สะดวกในการดื่มร้อยละ 16.5 และหาซื้อง่ายร้อยละ 4.6 ประชาชนนิยมดื่มนมพร้อมดื่ม ชนิดปรุงแต่งมากที่สุด รองลงมาเป็นนมสดรสจืด นมเปรี้ยวรสนมสด นมเปรี้ยวปรุงแต่ง และ นมพร่องมันเนย ร้อยละ 38.4, 24.9, 12.0, 11.9 และ 11.1 ตามลำดับ ผู้บริโภคนิยมไปซื้อที่ห้างสรรพสินค้าพอ ๆ กับร้านค้าปลีกคือร้อยละ 34.3 กับ 33.4 สำหรับหลักเกณฑ์ในการเลือก เครื่องหมายการค้าที่จะซื้อนั้น พิจารณาจากวันหมดอายุเป็นเกณฑ์ ตามด้วยรสชาติ และความ น่าเชื่อถือของบริษัทที่ผลิตร้อยละ 36.7, 30.6 และ 16.2 ตามลำดับ ประชาชนร้อยละ 71.1 ได้แสดงความคิดเห็นต่อราคาที่จำหน่ายอยู่ในปัจจุบันว่าเหมาะสมดีแล้ว แต่อีกร้อยละ 24.5 ยังเห็นว่าแพงเกินไปและได้ให้ความคิดเห็นว่า ราคาที่จำหน่ายควรเป็น 5 บาทต่อหน่วย และ …

Five hundred seventy nine piglets from four standard breeder farms in four provinces of Thailand, weighing between below 1.0 kg and between 1.0-1.2 kg, were used in this trial. The animals were divided into two groups. The first group performed as control (n=239). In the second group (n=340), each piglet was given two 5 ml doses of porcine plasma protein derived colostrum supplement at the first and third day of the pig life. Biochemical changes in equine infectious anaemia (EIA) infected horse sera were analysed and compared with those in sera from normal horses. Serum concentrations of iron, phosphorus and magnesium from infected horses were found to be significantly lower whereas copper and globulin increased.

The semen of ten, fertile, Thai Ridgeback, male dogs was collected by digital manipulation and massage methods, and evaluated once a week for three consecutive weeks. Macroscopic features of the Thai dog semen comprised of 1.0-6.5 ml (x=2.2) of the combined first and second fractions, 0.5-30.0 ml (x=11.9) of the third fraction, a pH between 6.0 to 7.0 (x=6.2), and an opalescent colour. Microscopic features were 60-95% motility (x=82.5), a concentration of 132.5 -2,725.0x106 spermatozoa per ml (x=973.8) and 132.5-7,998.8x106 total spermatozoa per ejaculation (x=1,896.3). The percentage of dead sperms was 1-13% (x=4.2) and those of normal morphology 40.5-91.5% (X=82.7). …

The objective of this study was to determine the optimum condition for porcine oocyte preparation for in vitro fertilization. A total of 1,130 immature oocytes collected from superficial follicles, 3-6 mm in diameter were allocated to 3 experiments. In Experiment 1, the length of time for oocyte maturation were examined (n=469). Immature oocytes were cultivated in TCM199 NaHCO3 supplemented with 10 μg/ml of FSH/LH and 1 μg/ml of Estradiol-17ẞ for 24, 40 or 48 hrs. Congenital heart disease is an important cause of infant mortality and disability. The frequency, spectrum and contributory risk factors for significant cardiovascular malformations among live-births was retrospectively evaluated at the Aga Khan University Hospital. Of a total of 8331 live births between July, 1987 and December, 1992 34 babies were diagnosed to have congenital heart disease in the neonatal period giving a prevalence of 4 per 1000 live births. Ventricular septal defects was the most common (n = 10, 29%) abnormality. Eight cases had associated chromosomal abnormality, the most common being Trisomy 21. Drift Macroalgal Abundance In Seagrass Beds: Investigating Large-Scale Associations With Physical And Biotic Attributes, Susan S. Bell, Margaret O. Hall

The relationship between a suite of physical and biological factors and drift macroalgal abundance was examined in 12 seagrass sites spanning a distance of over 50 km within Tampa Bay, Florida, USA. Field sampling was conducted in December 1991, and drift algal abundance was determined by recording algal percent cover from 25 quadrants at each site. Additionally, drift macroalgae were collected from gridded plots and dry weight biomass measured. Sediment characteristics and seagrass biomass, shoot density, blade length and percent cover at each site were also determined. Transgenic mice that express increased levels of nerve growth factor (NGF) in the epidermis and other stratified, keratinized epithelium. The nerve growth factor expressing transgenic mice are useful in the study of neurodegenerative disorders of the brain such as Parkinson's syndrome and Alzheimer's disease and for testing for drug candidates for the treatment of these diseases.

Liposomes that destabilize at mildly acidic pH are efficient tools for delivering water-soluble drugs into the cell cytoplasm. However, their use in vivo is limited because of their rapid uptake from circulation by the reticuloendothelial system. Lipid-anchored polyethylene glycol (PEG-PE) prolongs the circulation time of liposomes by steric stabilization. We have found that addition of PEG-PE to the membrane of pH-sensitive liposomes composed of cholesteryl hemisuccinate (CHEMS) and dioleoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DOPE) confers steric stability to these vesicles. This modification significantly decreases the pH-dependent release of a charged water-soluble fluorophore, calcein, from liposomes suspended in buffer or cell culture medium. However, the …

This research sought to examine the level of psychosocial adjustment in a sample of laryngectomees by describing demographic characteristics, alcohol consumption, and tobacco use pre-cancer diagnosis and currently, satisfaction with voice, and by examining the relationship between each subject's level of psychosocial adjustment and lifestyle change, i.e. cessation of tobacco and/or alcohol consumption, and satisfaction with voice.

Twenty-one subjects completed (a) Demographic Questionnaire, (b) Lifestyle Questionnaire, (c) Satisfaction with Voice Scale, and (d) Psychosocial Adjustment to Illness Scale-Self Report (PAIS-SR). Descriptive and inferential statistics were completed.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of perturbation measures, jitter and shimmer, and ratings of acceptability by naive listeners. Six tracheoesophageal (TEP) speakers and 14 naive listeners participated in the study. Each speaker was recorded while reading The Rainbow passage. The six samples of voice were then presented to the listeners for rating. The naive listeners used an equal appearing seven pint scale to rate voice acceptability. No significant correlation was found between the perturbation measures and the ratings of acceptability. Due to the small subject size in this study, the findings are inconclusive. The results …

The purpose of this investigation was to generate a substantive theory of cultural discovery among nurses who work with Vietnamese. A grounded theory approach involving dimensional analysis was employed. A purposive sample of 27 registered nurses with experiences working with Vietnamese in acute care, community, and clinic settings was interviewed using a semi-structured format. Data were analyzed for dimensions as well as conditions, context, action strategies, and consequences. The theory of cultural discovery described how nurses learn to see their Vietnamese clients, how they saw a common humanity with others, and how they learn to see health. Nurses who made …

The literature from multiple disciplines on in utero cocaine exposure and mother–infant interaction and attachment was examined for possible relationships and implications for occupational therapists. Maternal cocaine use and neurobehavioral deficits in neonates prenatally exposed to cocaine may result in interactional difficulties between mother and infant. Knowledge of child development, sensory regulation, and infant cues will enable therapists to assist the mother in creating positive interactive experiences between herself and her child.
