Research regarding children's instrumental articulation development has provided the speech clinician with schedules of speech sound development. These developmental tables list ages when specific phonemes are mastered by normal children. Such schedules tend to give the impression that certain sounds must be developed before others can occur. Menyuk (1972) has expressed a similar point of view regarding phonemes /t/ and /k/. She has hypothesized:

1. that phoneme /t/ must develop before phoneme /k/; and

In articulation treatment and diagnosis, it is essential to possess a thorough knowledge of what is "normal" as well as what is "defective" articulation. The /r/ phoneme is one of the most frequently occurring and most commonly defective sounds. There are two different tongue positions for the /r/ phoneme described in the literature (retroflex and central hump), with many assumptions about which tongue position is "normal" or "most common." The purpose of the study was to determine if a relationship exists among opinions toward fluoridation of public water supplies, income, and level of education of the people of Salt Lake City, Utah. There were also two secondary concerns. One was to determine if a relationship exists between opinions toward fluoridation and other controversial social issues. The issues identified for investigations were: (1) the Supreme Court decision on abortion, (2) the Equal Rights Amendment, and (3) capital punishment. In order to investigate the characteristics of the facial complex of the Mexican and to compare them with the Caucasian, a sample of 40 subjects, 31 males and nine females, of Latin American origin from Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, with a mean age of 16.6 years, were selected for this study. The criteria for selection were visual and only individuals with clinical normal, Angle Class I occlusion were chosen.

Lack of motivation on the part of the patient is frequently identified by health personnel as being a principle obstacle to the patient’s relearning basic skills necessary for his re- habilitation. This study was undertaken to explore the use of operant conditioning in teaching stabilized stroke patients to dress themselves and thus, increase their self-care independence. An in vitro study using polyethylene tubes filled with Grossman's sealer, Rickert's sealer, and N2 permanent was conducted over a six month period in an effort to determine their lasting antimicrobial properties against eight different microorganisms.

From the study it was observed that N2 permanent possesses a long-lasting antimicrobial effect, but this effect appears to diminish greatly with time. Further investigation is needed to determine whether or not the effect is actually permanent in nature. The N2 permanent was also shown to have broader antimicrobial effectiveness against the eight microorganisms tested. N2 permanent produced zones of inhibition against five of …

This study compared endodontic overfills of N₂ and gutta percha-Grossman's Sealer from a histopathological basis. The study employed four male rhesus monkeys and a sample of 31 teeth.

The most obvious difference between the samples filled with N₂ and the gutta percha-Grossman's Sealer samples was the recurring presence of ankylosis in the N₂-treated teeth. Results also included bone necrosis, inflammation and root and bone resorption.

The N₂ samples were considered to have evidenced greater violence of reaction apically.

The purpose of this exploratory study was to determine if relaxation instruction and electromyographic (E.M.G.) feedback would reduce chronic low back pain. A secondary aim was to determine if the locus of control variable as defined by Rotter would influence the results obtained.

Fourteen non-hospitalized subjects with chronic low back pain, meeting the criteria of this study became the sample group. The accurate determination of an external zero reference level corresponding with mid right atrial level would make possible reliable measurements in either position. Hospitalization was assessed as imposing stress on a child which may result in negative behavior. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of a planned preadmission orientation in decreasing negative behavior after hospitalization.

An experimental randomized group design was used.

Two soils were used in this soil column study. Yolo loam soil a non-calcareous, non-gypsiferous soil from central California and Vernal soil a calcareous soil from eastern Utah.

Initial studies were conducted where the solubilities of pure CaC0₃ and CaS0₄ ' 2H₂0 were determined in the presence of Logan river water, a KCl solution (2.8 mmhos/cm) and a K₂S0₄ solution (2. 7 mmhos/cm). A preliminary roentgenographic cephalometric investigation of twelve hydrocephalics has been conducted to consider the effects of increased intracranial pressure and enlarged neural mass on the craniofacial complex.

The Ricketts computerized analysis, utilizing both posterior-anterior and lateral cephalograms, and the Steiner and Tweed analyses, utilizing the lateral cephalogram, were used to compare the hydrocephalic to the norm.

Concerned that depression might be a common malady among youth who are placed in treatment centers for delinquents, we undertook an exploratory study to determine the validity of this premise. The authors of this study have all worked with youth who, for various reasons, have been placed in residential treatment centers. The authors have observed that symptoms of depression seem to be more prevalent in these youth than in non-institutionalized adolescents, and that these symptoms are often perceived as individual pathology rather than emotional responses common to institutionalized youth. This study determined opinions of s elected eleventh grade high school girls and physical education teachers concerning intramural and interschool sports competition. The high school s in the study were randomly selected from the nine school districts located in the Wasatch Front Area of Utah.

Ground turkey samples were prepared with different fat levels, fat types, percent mechanically deboned meat and grind. All samples were analyzed at three different time-intervals. Samples were evaluated by chemical, sensory, and physical measurements, in term of stability, water content, fat content, press fluid, water loss, flavor, texture, and hedonic values. Significant differences were determined by analysis of variance.

Coarse ground (5/8") samples showed significantly higher TBA numbers, fat content, total loss, and juiciness. Water content, flavor scores, amount of press fluid, texture scores, and hedonic scores were lower when compared to the fine and medium ground samples.

Twenty-eight female, water deprived rats were given 5 minutes access to sucrose for either 1,7,14, or 21 days. They were then given LiC1 injections every third day until an aversion to the sucrose developed. The results indicated that as amount of pre-exposure to sucrose increased, the number of illnesses required to develop an aversion increased. Also, the rate of extinction of the conditioned aversion was inversely related to the number of exposures required. to establish the aversion.

[From the Introduction] There is only one report of an attempt to induce interstitial cystitis in animals by immunologic methods. Silk in 1970 was unable to produce any lesions in rats or rabbits following a single intramuscular injection of homologous bladder antigen (5 mgm) in complete Freund's adjuvant. This amount of crude antigen is small compared to doses of 200-400 mg which have been successfully used to produce lesions in other organs. Multiple injections of antigen will sometimes produce a lesion when single injections of antigen are unsuccessful.
