Women In Menopause: A Study Of Gynecologist's Perceptions, Zadell Cogan, Sharon Kennedy

The purpose of this study was to explore the needs of women experiencing menopause. Since women at this time experience physical, social and emotional changes, they may have a special need for services. Doctors were selected as the population for study because they treat so many women at this age and because they are powerful transmitters of our culture. This exploratory study was designed to provide descriptive information about the doctors' perceptions.

Results are reported from interviews with seventeen gynecologists from the Portland metropolitan area in Oregon. Attempts were made to interview all female gynecologists in the area. Male gynecologists …

The purpose of this project was to measure and compare the language concept growth of two clients who utilized different response modes; client A utilized the expressive mode and client B utilized the receptive mode. A systematic management program was administered to each client for eighteen sessions. The specific questions posed were:

The purpose of the study was to compare two mild punishment techniques, positive practice overcorrection and time-out, for decreasing talking out and out of seat behavior in relatively normal children. Other variables considered were the practicality of administering positive practice and time-out, the generalization of the technique to other problem behaviors, and emotional side effects resulting from the administration of the techniques. The hypotheses formulated and tested considered which technique most effectively decreased target behaviors and what effect these treatments had on social interactions of treated children. The purpose of this evaluative study was to develop and implement a program evaluation design for a model of early mental health intervention to primary grade level classrooms in a public elementary school. The literature was used to establish two premises: that cities are noisy environments, and that noise-free societies have less coronary artery disease (CAD) than do industrialized sections of the world. The present study was a modified replication of Miller and Seligman’s (1973) study. Expectancy ratings under skill and chance tasks were examined in 51 college students in four groups: depressed high-external, depressed low-external, nondepressed high-external, and nondepressed low-external. The present study investigated the expressive and interpersonal functioning of nonverbal behavior within a dyadic relationship. A questionnaire derived from the Interpersonal Perception Method of Laing, Phillipson, and Lee (1966) was developed to assess the impact of an interviewer’s nonverbal behavior on the interviewee’s experience of herself, the interviewer, and their relationship.

To determine this impact and evaluate the usefulness of the instrument, two interviewer nonverbal behavior sets were defined. Two female interviewers interviewed a total of sixteen female interviewees for each behavior set, using the same verbal style and interview format throughout each one-time interview. Numerous investigators have utilized Bekesy audiometry in the detection of nonorganic hearing loss. The efficiency with which Bekesy audiometry detects nonorganicity has varied according to the method of Bekesy test administration and the definition of the Type V nonorganic pattern. Rintelmann and Harford’s Type V definition and the LOT- (Lengthened Off-Time) Bekesy test have emerged as valuable nonorganicity detectors. The properties of the coenzyme, NAD, binding site of chicken muscle L-∝-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase were studied. Adenosine monophosphate, adenosine diphosphate and adenosine diphosphoribose were sha.vn to inhibit the enzyme competitively with respect to NAD. The presence of adenosine, pyrophosphate and ribose regions in the coenzyme binding site of the enzyme was suggested by the inhibitor constants obtained for these compounds.

Disodium monoalkyl phosphates, n-butyl to n-dodecyl phosphate, inclusive, were also shown to inhibit the L-∝-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase catalized reaction competitively with respect to NAD. A positive chain length effect was observed in the binding of these compounds to the enzyme, suggesting the …

Patients with deep skeletal or dental bites before treatment have been noted to have a greater tendency towards relapsing to this deepbite following orthodontic treatment than do patients whose malocclusion showed a more ideal overbite relationship before treatment.

This study utilized patients selected from Rocky Mountain Data Systems for their deepbite trends. Three areas were compared to overbite relapse, 1) age, 2) interincisal angle 3) lower face height.

Results of this study indicate that overbite cases that have the most problems in retention were skeletal deepbites. This study also indicates that there was no disadvantage to early treatment, that the …

Large artery, pedal small vein, femoral vein and central venous pressures and extremity volume changes were recorded in mongrel dogs in which the hindlimb was perfused at a constant flow. Arterial, pedal venous and femoral venous blood gases were drawn and analyzed for measurements of arterio-venous O₂ and CO₂ differences. Paw and thigh resistances were calculated. Measurements were repeated following ligation of the iliac and femoral veins, alpha receptor blockade (dibenzyline), and dilation with Vasodilan. The purpose of this investigation was to determine if there were significant differences in correct dental skill performance through manipulation of the independent variable, hand exercises, and the assigned independent variable, students' hobbies.

A Three-Group, nonrandomized, posttest only design utilizing a sample of 48 first-year dental hygiene students was developed. Subjects were assigned to groups on the basis of hobby questionnaire scores. All subjects received the traditional pre-clinical course of instruction. The study entailed a four-week period in which subjects were instructed in explorer instrumentation techniques followed by the administration of a Performance Examination.
