Objective: To build and validate a practical, orthodontics-specific adverse event taxonomy and severity triage framework using publicly available regulatory narratives, enabling rapid surveillance of high-risk event patterns across clear aligners and common orthodontic appliances.
Methods: A retrospective computational audit was conducted using U.S. FDA MAUDE medical device report narratives related to orthodontic appliances, with a focus on clear aligners (including Invisalign and direct-to-consumer sequential aligners). Narrative reports were normalized and grouped into clinically interpretable event families (airway compromise, hypersensitivity/allergic reactions, ingestion/aspiration, soft-tissue injury, periodontal/tooth injury, and occlusal/bite changes). Protein malnutrition remains a major global health problem and frequently co-occurs with alcohol use, opioid exposure, and infectious disease, particularly in low- and middle-income settings. The liver is central to both metabolism and inflammatory regulation, yet the effects of a malnutrition-like nutrient environment on hepatic responses to combined metabolic and inflammatory insults are not well defined. Cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4), a key enzyme involved in opioid metabolism, is highly sensitive to inflammatory signaling and may be especially vulnerable under conditions of nutritional deficiency. Background:
Zinc plays an important role in enzymatic and inflammatory processes that may influence periodontal health. The relationship between zinc intake and periodontitis remains insufficiently characterized in adults without diabetes.
Methods:
A population-based adult sample was analyzed to examine the association between zinc intake from dietary and supplemental sources and periodontal disease, adjusting for relevant demographic, socioeconomic, behavioral, and health-related factors.
Results:
Zinc intake patterns varied across population subgroups and were associated with periodontal outcomes after accounting for potential confounders. Adequate zinc intake was consistently linked to more favorable periodontal status.
Conclusion:
These findings suggest that sufficient zinc intake may …

The study evaluates a five-day Mental Wellness workshop, which is integrated into a Flight Safety course that focuses on building resilience, managing stress, regulating emotions, promoting healthy lifestyle habits, and stigma reduction. This study presents a biologically guided strategy to enhance dental implant osseointegration by integrating peri-implant transcriptomic analysis with molecular docking simulations to identify bioactive surface molecules that may promote osteoblast attachment, extracellular matrix formation, and early bone healing. By aligning implant surface chemistry with host tissue biology, this translational in silico workflow offers a rapid, cost-effective pathway toward next-generation bioactive coatings designed to improve healing, strengthen bone–implant integration, and support long-term clinical success.

Persistent endodontic infections can endure despite technically adequate root canal treatment, reflecting a biological transition from microbial invasion to a host-driven chronic inflammatory state. This study applied a computational network biology approach to model host–microbe molecular interactions in chronic apical periodontitis and to identify key network hubs sustaining inflammation and periapical bone resorption.

Introduction: Rural communities have limited spine surgery care, which disproportionately affects older adults. Research has evaluated how hospital location affects patient outcomes; however, minimal work has investigated the impact of home location. This work’s purpose was evaluating the impact of patient geographical classification (rural/suburban/urban) on lumbar fusion outcomes.

Methods: Adult patients who underwent elective lumbar fusion (2017-2022) at a single tertiary center were identified via Structured Query Language search. Patient demographic/surgical characteristics, surgical outcomes, and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) were collected. Rural/urban/suburban was assigned by zip code.

“Antihistamine” categorizes a large selection of drugs, all with different side effects and user experiences. This study explores the relationships between allergy medicine usage, side effects, symptom relief, and Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) using data collected from 113 participants of an anonymous online survey. Five hypotheses were tested using chi-square analyses of independence at a significance level of 0.05. The data revealed a strong statistical association between first-generation antihistamine (Benadryl) use and drowsiness, misuse of allergy medicine and RLS, drowsiness and RLS, and duration of use and routine disruption. Groups working toward creating peace and equity often focus on external innovation without addressing internal culture shifts necessary to navigate change and achieve their goals. Michelle’s doctoral research and practice address this challenge through a design research study and peace innovation project focused on organizational culture transformation through a design justice framework. Findings suggest that interweaving the framework with storytelling, arts, and embodiment practices are key to support people in navigating change processes to strengthen relationships, foster trust, and build community.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in women’s lacrosse arise from complex interactions involving biomechanical, anatomical, and neuromuscular factors. The aim of this project was to review current literature on ACL injury and traditional prevention strategies in women’s lacrosse. Recent perspectives highlight limitations of traditional approaches that often fail to simulate the unpredictability of game environments. An ecological dynamics approach is proposed that considers elements of the athlete, playing environment, and game tasks to guide future research and practice in reducing the incidence of ACL injury.

Background and Purpose

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome is one of the most common causes of anterior knee pain, which can be idiopathic or insidious. Despite this, another cause of patellofemoral pain is a secondary complication from tibial fractures and surgeries. Post-Tibial Open Reduction Internal Fixation: patients undergo a period of knee immobilization, altered weight-bearing status, and quadriceps dysfunction.  This causes quadriceps atrophy, altering the knee's biomechanics. The purpose of this case report is to illustrate the rehabilitation strategy and prognosis of this set of patients.

Maternal mortality in the United States remains a critical public health crisis, with disproportionately high rates among Black and other minority women. Despite advances in obstetric medicine, racial disparities in pregnancy-related deaths persist due to structural inequities, implicit bias in healthcare delivery, unequal access to prenatal and postpartum care, and broader social determinants of health. Nationally, Black women are significantly more likely to experience severe maternal morbidity and mortality compared to White women, reflecting longstanding inequities embedded within the healthcare system.
