In Patients With Hepatocellular Carcinoma (Hcc) (P), Is Bevacizumab With Atezolizumab (I) More Effective Than Sorafenib (C) In Long-Term Clinical Prognosis (O)?, Joon Lee

Capstone Showcase

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third leading cause of cancer death globally. China contributes to half of the global incidence of liver cancer, with about 70-85% being HCC. Definitive treatment for this condition would be surgical resection with liver transplant but for obvious reasons, the majority of affected patients are unable to meet the necessary criteria. Sorafenib is a form of chemotherapy that has been the mainstay treatment of HCC since its approval in 2007. More recently, the combination of Bevacizumab and Atezolizumab has shown greater efficacy in the treatment of unresectable HCC. Additionally, this new combination therapy shows favorable …

Quality Of Life Before And After Cosmetic Surgery: Should Body Dysmorphic Disorder Be Considered An Absolute Or Relative Contraindication For Cosmetic Surgery?, Lindsay Conlisk

Capstone Showcase

Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) has historically been regarded as a strong contraindication for cosmetic plastic surgery. New research now suggests that the contraindications to cosmetic surgery in patients with BDD may not be so absolute. This paper reviews diagnostic criteria, diagnostic challenges, and current standard of treatment of BDD. It then presents the idea of insight analysis in the BDD patient as a significant factor in determining if patients with BDD may or may not benefit from cosmetic surgery or procedures.

Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Using Second Generation Drug-Eluting Stents Vs Coronary Artery Bypass Graft In Left Main Coronary Artery And Multivessel Coronary Artery Disease, Eric Kim

Capstone Showcase

Many of the studies that are used in reference to the clinical decision making between PCI vs CABG use BMS or first-generation DES as a comparison. With the advancement of stent technology, second-generation DES have emerged with improved efficacy and overall outcome rates compared to BMS and first-generation DES. Some of the newer studies such as EXCEL1-2 , demonstrated noninferiority of second-generation DES to CABG but there are limited studies that support this conclusion. Currently, the studies remain divided in the impact of newer-generation PCIs, and 10-year follow up studies may be required to further validate noninferiority before it can …

Pulsed Chronopotentiometry With Polymer-Based Potassium-Selective Electrodes, Roland A. Long, Kebede L. Gemene Dr. Dec 2021

Pulsed Chronopotentiometry With Polymer-Based Potassium-Selective Electrodes, Roland A. Long, Kebede L. Gemene Dr.

Posters-at-the-Capitol

This research aimed to develop ion-selective electrodes selective to potassium for use in measuring potassium concentration in blood. Potassium is an important electrolyte within the body, orchestrating nerve excitation, muscular function, and heart rate. Excessive or insufficient potassium levels can cause breakdowns in these systems difficult to differentiate from other potential causes. Isolating potassium concentration as the sole cause necessitates selective measurement. Pulsed Chronopotentiometry with polymer-based membrane electrodes offered a versatile route of interrogation: membrane composition and magnitude of applied current can be altered to assess selectivity in a fast and controlled manner. All potential measurements recorded corresponded to known …

Demographic Analysis Of African Americans Enrolled In A Community-Based Diabetes Prevention Program, Kennedy Palmer, Lovoria B. Williams, Hannah Bowman

Posters-at-the-Capitol

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is preventable. While all racial and ethnic groups are susceptible to the condition, African Americans (AAs) are among the groups with the highest T2D prevalence (13.3%:9.4 %) among their white counterparts. Lifestyle interventions, such as the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) effectively decrease incident diabetes by 58%. Moreover, evidence indicates that culturally adapted health interventions enhance subject participation and increase adherence to lifestyle programs. The purpose of this project is to examine the baseline demographics of AA participants of Fit & Faithful, a culturally adapted DPP. Fit & Faithful concentrates on the prominent religious aspect of AA …

Holistic Well-Being And Humanitarian Workers During Covid-19: Concepts, Challenges, And Recommendations, Nicholas Sherwood Dec 2021

Holistic Well-Being And Humanitarian Workers During Covid-19: Concepts, Challenges, And Recommendations, Nicholas Sherwood

Biennial Conference: The Social Practice of Human Rights

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated conflict dynamics and humanitarian disasters around the world, including Syria, Yemen, and East Africa. Humanitarian efforts designed to address these dynamics and disasters are also falling prey to the fallout of COVID, most notably increases in psychological distress experienced by humanitarian workers (HW) operating on the front lines of humanitarian zones. As such, new and innovative practices must be explored to support HW as they continue their desperately needed work; this imperative is further bolstered by calls in international human rights-based documents (e.g., Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant …

Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL)

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree process supports the dissemination of nursing scholarship. Peer reviewed nursing journals have reported an increase in volume of student submissions over the past decade, but only some of them are initially publishable. As an alternative or supplement to journal submission, the University of San Francisco has developed a library-based institutional repository collection for these manuscript submissions that is globally findable, searchable, and accessible. Submission to the repository does not compromise rigor, and manuscripts can be submitted to peer reviewed journals when and if student and faculty are committed to the editorial process.

Community-Driven Repository Infrastructure Programs At Lyrasis—An Overview, Paolo P. Gujilde, Sheila Rabun, Hannah Rosen

Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL)

Academic libraries, and institutional repositories in particular, play a key role in the ongoing quest for ways to gather metrics and connect the dots between researchers and research contributions in order to measure “institutional impact,” while also streamlining workflows to reduce administrative burden. Identifying accurate metrics and measurements for illustrating “impact” is a goal that many academic research institutions share, but these goals can only be met to the extent that all organizations across the research and scholarly communication landscape are using best practices and shared standards in research infrastructure. For example, persistent identifiers (PIDs) such as ORCID iDs (Open …
