A hospital's Emergency Department (ED) serves as its front door to the community. The vast majority of admitted patients present initially to the ED, and even more still begin and end their hospital visit in the ED. A hospital's ED will deal with every societal ill facing that community. However, most hospitals reserve dedicated Social Service resources to admitted patients who have had prolonged inpatient hospital stays. EDs around the country are being overburdened with patients who present to the ED for non-emergent conditions. Access to community based healthcare is daunting even for well-connected individuals. Puzzleart Therapy: Connecting The Pieces In Search Of Answers, Jennifer Fortuna

Alli Berman has been an artist, educator, author, and lecturer for more than 25 years. Her art can be found in private, corporate, and nonprofit collections around the world. Berman is the creator of PuzzleArt, a series of small abstract paintings that combine to form a modular puzzle. When a stroke impacted Berman’s quality of life, she turned to art for answers. Engagement in a meaningful activity, such as painting, provided her motivation and strength for continued physical and psychological healing. Service learning experiences can build skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, cultural competence, marketing, financial management, conflict resolution, and ethical reasoning. Service learning is a beneficial pedagogy.

Therefore, the research question being addressed in this study is how student perceptions and motivation factor into international service learning trips and their impact on physical therapy and occupational therapy students’ current education and future clinical practice?

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) has significant variability in patient numbers, acuity and disease processes represented throughout the year. This variability leads to differences in educational exposure for our residents. Prior attempts at standardizing education through a scheduled didactic program were limited by the time constraints of this high intensity and unpredictable environment. In 2015, the pediatric critical care rotation evaluation had the lowest scores for provision of didactic education. On a Likert scale of 1-5 (with 5 being excellent), the didactic scores were 3.41 (Jan - June 2015) and 3.79 (July - Dec. 2015.), lower than other rotations …

  • Preventing Postoperative Urinary Tract Infections in Cancer Patients: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) increase morbidity, mortality and health care costs and prolong hospitalizations for patients who require urinary catheters-especially those who undergo long, complex surgeries or procedures to treat urological or gynecological cancers.
