The Jefferson Teamwork Observation Guide: Reliability And Validity For Use In Education And Practice, June Andrews Horowitz,, Elizabeth T. Speakman, Edd, Rn, Fnap, Anef, Shoshana Sicks, Med

College of Nursing Posters

Background & Purpose

  • Interprofessional education (IPE) is fast becoming an integral part of the education of health professions students. To meet this aim, it is important to provide students with the skills needed for interprofessional success, but also to use reliable and valid measures to help students and clinicians to recognize characteristics of well-functioning teams.
  • The Jefferson Teamwork Observation Guide (JTOG) was created for health professions students to evaluate teams in action by rating behaviors indicative of good team work.
  • The JTOG, mapped to the 2011 Interprofessional Education Collaborative Expert Panel (IPEC) core competencies, was developed over two …

Promoting Health And Quality Of Life Along The Care Continuum: Creating A Nursing Curriculum For Today’S Health Care Environment, Kathleen D. Black, Mary Bouchaud, Denise Brown Sep 2016

Promoting Health And Quality Of Life Along The Care Continuum: Creating A Nursing Curriculum For Today’S Health Care Environment, Kathleen D. Black, Mary Bouchaud, Denise Brown

College of Nursing Posters

Background

The focus on traditional acute, hospital-based health care is being replaced with a new paradigm aimed at providing primary care, care of populations, and care across transitions and providers. The Institute of Medicine’s report (2010), the “Future of Nursing” emphasized the need for nurses to lead health care change and called for nursing education focused on a community and population-based perspective, person centered care, and emerging roles for nurses across the care continuum. In response, the Jefferson College of Nursing embarked on the ambitious task of designing a new and innovative baccalaureate nursing curriculum over a 13 month period.

Conversion Of Intermediate Lirads Categories To Hepatocellular Carcinoma In Patients With Chronic Hepatitis B: Korean Immigrant Experience, Kofi-Buaku Atsina, Md, Zhenteng Li, Md, Sandeep Deshmukh, Md

Department of Radiology Posters

Introduction and Objective

The Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LIRADS) was created to standardize the reporting and data collection of MR imaging for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in high risk patients. The major categories for LIRADS have the following descriptors:

LI-RADS 1 = Definitely benign

LI-RADS 2 = Probably benign

LI-RADS 3 = Intermediate probability for HCC

LI-RADS 4 = Probably HCC

LI-RADS 5 = Definitely HCC

LI-RADS 5V = Definitely HCC with tumor in vein

LI-RADS M = Probable malignancy, not specific for HCC

LI-RADS T = Treated Observation

However, there is a paucity of quantitative evidence for the …

Four-Dimensional (4d) Subharmonic Aided Pressure Estimation For Monitoring Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy Response Of Breast Cancer, Kibo Nam, Maria Stanczak, Anush Sridharan, Adam C. Berger, Tiffany Avery, John R. Eisenbrey, Flemming Forsberg Sep 2016

Four-Dimensional (4d) Subharmonic Aided Pressure Estimation For Monitoring Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy Response Of Breast Cancer, Kibo Nam, Maria Stanczak, Anush Sridharan, Adam C. Berger, Tiffany Avery, John R. Eisenbrey, Flemming Forsberg

Department of Radiology Posters

Introduction

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is a well-established treatment option for patients with non-metastatic breast cancer. The patient response is correlated with survival. However, the optimal method for monitoring neoadjuvant therapy response has not been established. One factor that may affect the response of neoadjuvant therapy is the interstitial fluid pressure (IFP). Increased IFP prevents an effective delivery of therapeutic agents and reduces the efficacy of the therapy. Recently, subharmonic-aided pressure estimation (SHAPE) using contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) has been developed and its potential was demonstrated in animals as a non-invasive technique for IFP measurements. The SHAPE method estimates IFP based on the …

Department of Surgery Posters

Background

Anterior spinal exposures performed by spine or vascular surgeons have a known complication rate of 2-11%. We present the largest single institution experience of anterior spinal exposures performed by Acute Care Surgeons.

The purpose of this study was to characterize the incidence of vascular and visceral injuries during spinal exposures and to identify risk factors contributing to operative complications during the exposure. We hypothesized that patients with a BMI >30 as well as low-volume surgeons (<20 >operations) would have an increased complication rate.

Autism Screening In Primary Care: Community Providers Incorrectly Report Adherence To Aap Autism Screening Guidelines, Jose Lopez-Lizarranga Md, Kimberly J. Reid, Sarah Nyp, Cy Nadler

Posters

Purpose: To compare community provider reports of adherence to current American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) autism screening guidelines with their self-reported practices, including implementation of the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT).

Methods: An online survey was distributed to primary care providers from Kansas, Oklahoma, and North Dakota. The survey collected demographics and self-reported ASD screening practices (including M-CHAT implementation procedures) and knowledge questions.

Results: 133 providers completed the survey (50% pediatricians, 32% int. med/fam. physicians, 18% physician assistants). Of the 96 who reported routinely screening for ASD; 78% reported adhering to AAP guidelines. However, no providers correctly answered …

Non-Psychotropic Cannabinoid Based Therapy Modulates Nociceptive Signaling Molecules, Microglia, And Pain Behavior In A Model Of Post-Concussion Headache, Jarred M. Stratton, Lan Cheng, Ashley L. Tyburski, Jessica Perino, Melanie B. Elliott Sep 2016

Non-Psychotropic Cannabinoid Based Therapy Modulates Nociceptive Signaling Molecules, Microglia, And Pain Behavior In A Model Of Post-Concussion Headache, Jarred M. Stratton, Lan Cheng, Ashley L. Tyburski, Jessica Perino, Melanie B. Elliott

Department of Neurosurgery Posters

Background & Objectives

Headache is a common symptom of post-concussion syndrome which may persist in a substantial portion of patients contributing to a poor quality of life and disability. There is a pressing need to develop novel treatments for post-traumatic headache as current treatments have a number of side effects, are contraindicated or lack efficacy. The Elliott laboratory first established models of post-traumatic headache demonstrating sensitization of trigeminal neurons in rodent models of post-traumatic headache using well-known nociceptive and behavioral markers in the pain and migraine fields1-3. Traumatic brain injury in mice increases expression of calcitonin gene related …
