In this study, the monthly variation in the blood glucose level of Capoeta capoeta capoeta caught from Aras between August 1995 and June 1996 was determined. The average blood glucose level was determined to be 112.04±5.19 mg/dl in males and 106.32±9.68 mg/dl in females and 110.06±4.19 mg/dl in the population. The blood glucose level was highest (141.07±13.67 mg/dl) in April, and lowest (69.14±9.75 mg/dl) in September. It was deter- mined that the level of blood glucose was related to temperature and reproduction.

The present study was designed to determine the effects of lighting regimes on the growth performances and carcass characteristics of Bronze turkeys reared in intensive conditions. Turkeys were reared under three lighting regimes (group 1, 12 h; group 2, 18 h; and group 3, 23 h.). In the experiment, the live weights of the turkeys (male+female) in groups 1, 2 and 3 were found to be 4578±142, 4630±131 and 4942±139 g respectively at the end of a 16-week period. Toxoplasma gondii pseudocysts in cattle are sources of infection for humans. Therefore, cattle toxoplasmosis is a very important factor in public health. The aim of the present study was to determine the seroprevalence of cattle toxoplasmosis. A total of 122 cattle from different age groups were selected in Elazığ and environs. Blood samples were taken and sera were collected. Serum samples were kept at -20^0 C until further examination. The values of toxoplasmosis seroprevalence were determined by SF test for anti-Toxoplasma gondii antibodies. Antibodies were detected in 86 out of 122 cattle sera (70.49%). In the first step, semen samples were diluted with Tris+Citric acid+Fructose+Egg yolk and Sadium citrate+Egg yolk diluents and were frozen in liquid nitrogen vapour. In the second step, 120 Merino ewes were synchronised with sponges, which contained flourogestone acetate, for 14 days. PMSG was injected into the ewes on the withdrawal day. In this study mutagenic effects of some chemicals used in Veterinary Medicine and agricultural fields was investigated by Somatic Mutation and Recombination Test (SMART). SMART test was to observe the chemical effects on wing phenotype of the trans- heterozygote flies carrying marker gene. Lethal doses of the chemicals used were determined. A positive correlation was observed between total mutation and the number of wings having mutations. In this study, the heart structures of 30 English racing horses with different weights were examined by M-mode echocardiography. Horses were separated into 3 groups of 10 horses. A feeding trial was conducted to study the effects of dietary astaxanthin concentration on muscle pigmentation of rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss) with a mean initial weight of 270 g fed diets supplemented with astaxanthin in diet concentrations of 60 (group II) and 90 mg/kg (group III) for 35 days. The rainbow trout has a great production capacity in Turkey. Marinated and breaded rainbow trout was prepared and the effect of the MAP technology on the shelf-life was studied. The samples were packaged and stored in 3 groups. These were the control (air), group A (5% O_2 + 35% CO_2 + 60% N_2 ), and group B (30% CO_2 + 70% N_2 ). The aim of this study was the determination of the shelf life of marinated fish balls. The anchovies were boiled, and after bones and heads were removed they were mixed with spice and fried. Then, they were placed in brine and stored at +4^0 C (± 1). The sensory analyses pH, TVB-N and TMA-N analyses were performed every 15 days during the storage. The results showed that this product was excellent quality for 60 days, fair quality for 105 days, and was marketable until the 120^th day. The spoilage was determined after the 120 ^th day.

Multiple regression analysis was utililised to estimate the relationship between somatic cell counts (SCC) and milk yield using the data of 1687 quarter milk samples collected weekly from 20 cows at the Dairy Unit of A.U. Veterinary Faculty's Research Farm between May and October 1998. The findings of this study supported the results of similar previous studies on that there is a negative relationship between SCC and milk yield, the relationship between milk yield and lnSCC (natural logarithmic form) is not linear. Experimental material consisted of 36 selected colonies collected from 6 different regions of Turkey. During the swarming season 20 worker bees were taken from each colony in order to measure the morphological characters including corbicul and wax mirror area, tongue length and body size. This experiment was carried out to evaluate the role of vitamin E in decreasing the toxic effect of digoxin. Electrocardiographic recordings of New Zealand rabbits which were treated with digoxin-only or digoxin+vitamin E were used. Recordings were obtained before and 24 hours after treatments. It was found that digoxin-only treatment caused a sinusoidal tachicardia without changing the durations or amplitudes of any wave on the trace. However, digoxin+vitamin E treatment did not produce any increase in heart rate. It was concluded that vitamin E injection along with digoxin injection might lower the toxic effect of digoxin. This study was conducted in cattle on Malatya and environs. A total of 432 cattle were clinically examined for cattle parafilariosis. Cattle parafilariosis was clinically diagnosed in 22 cattle in August 1995, six cattle in September 1995, two cattle in July 1996, one cattle in August 1996, and one cattle in August 1997. Thirty-two out of 432 cattle (7.4%) were diagnosed as having the disease. Upon the microscopic examination of blood samples from wounds, 18 microfilariae were found whereas no eggs were found in 10 cattle. The aim of this study was to determine the growth parameters of Rainbow trout (Oncorhynhcus mykiss) in net cages in Almus Dam Lake. The experiment continued for a period of 105 days between May 1 and August 15 1996. During the experiment 6480 rainbow trout with an average weight of 50 g were used. Experimental groups of 50 g mean initial body weight reached 279 g mean final weight by the end of the experiment.

In this study, pollution caused by arsenic residues in grey mullets (Chalcarburnus tarichii, Pallas 1811) living in Van Lake were investigated. A Total 120 samples, from the four seasons from 01.01.1994 to 01.01.1995 were collected. The organic parts of the muscles were washed with a mixture of magnesium oxide and magnesium nitrate according to the dry ash method and arsenic residues were measured by silver diethyl dithyocarbamate in a spectrophotometer. In this study, HCN levels in 150 Sorghum halepense samples obtained from the province of Aydın during 3 different vegetation periods were determined. The analysis was carried out using spectrophotometry. According to the results of the analysis, average HCN levels during the tiller, flowering, and postflowering stages in Sorghum halepense leaves, were 460.8, 144.8, and 44.22 ppm respectively. It was concluded that HCN levels in Sorghum halepense growing in the province of Aydın would be toxic for herbivores during the tillers and flowering stages.

This study was conducted to determine the effect of alcohol treatment on in situ degradabilities of some protein sources. While the dry matter degradabilities (DMP) of hazelnut kernel oil meal (HKOM), soybean meal (SBM), sunflower meal (SM) and full-fat soy (FFS) for 24 hour incubation period were found to be 86.06, 86.01, 70.66 and 70.21 %, the corresponding values for alcohol treatment were 74.63, 79.41, 61.26 and 63.41%, respectively. This study was conducted to evaluate the breast skin collagen content and electrophoretic analyses of type I collagen in heterozygous naked neck and normally feathered commercial chicks. A total of 72 birds from each genotype were randomly selected at 7 weeks and slaughtered. Breast skin was separated from each carcass and was analysed for collagen content and gel electrophopresis of type I collagen was performed. Males had significantly higher level of skin collagen content than females in both genotypes. This study was conducted to determine the effects of some different antibacterial drugs used in the poultry industry for their effects on the immune system of poultry. This experiment was carried on a hundred and fifty Ross PM-3 type, daily broiler chicks. Oxytetracycline and amoxicillin used in treatment of drinking water, and zinc bacitracin and salinomycin capable of being continuously added to feed in anabolic and preservative concentrations were chosen as antibacterial drug samples. The effect of glazing with the solutions contained ascorbic acid (AA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), BHT/BHA combination and only water, and storage time on lipid oxidation of chub mackerel were determined during frozen storage at -18°C for 10 months. Glazing with some antioxidants or water of the fish retarded lipid oxidation when compared to control samples during frozen storage. The results of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), peroxide value (PV) and free fatty acids (FFA) as lipid oxidation parameters increased slowly in all the samples glazed with antioxidants as a function of time but they retarded lipid oxidation …
