© 2018 Purpose: To describe the first published case of X-linked retinoschisis (XLRS) detachment with retinal vasoproliferative tumor (RVPT) and provide a literature review of the subject. Observations: The authors describe a case of a 17 year old male with X-linked retinoschisis who presented with a retinal detachment and a retinal vasoproliferative tumor. The patient was treated with pars plana vitrectomy, endolaser, subtenon's kenalog and anti-VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) intravitreal injections. He regained 20/60 vision with a flat macula and had significant resolution of the associated vasoproliferative leakage seen on fluorescein angiography. The goal of this study was to document current clinical practice and report patient outcomes in presurgical language functional MRI (fMRI) for epilepsy surgery. Epilepsy surgical programs worldwide were surveyed as to the utility, implementation, and efficacy of language fMRI in the clinic; 82 programs responded. Respondents were predominantly US (61%) academic programs (85%), and evaluated adults (44%), adults and children (40%), or children only (16%). Nearly all (96%) reported using language fMRI. However, little is known about the mechanisms responsible for miR-29b expression downregulation in AML. In this work we screened for mutations that could affect miR-29b expression. Using Sanger sequencing, we identified a germline thymidine (T) base deletion within the miR-29b-1/miR-29a cluster precursor in 16% of AML patients. Pregnancy in women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is associated with an increased risk of adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. Here, we present a case of severe maternal morbidity in a 23-year-old primigravida with SLE and secondary Sjögren's syndrome who experienced a life-threatening multisystem flare at 17 weeks of gestational age. She presented to the emergency department complaining of cough with hemoptysis and shortness of breath. She developed hypoxic respiratory failure and was admitted to the intensive care unit. We report a case of a 25-year-old G3 P0020 at 36 weeks of gestational age with history of intravenous drug abuse presenting with acute-onset and severe back pain. Despite antibiotic therapy, pain worsened and she developed lower extremity weakness. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an SEA, and cesarean delivery was performed secondary to increasing weakness, followed by laminectomy (T9-12) and decompression of epidural abscess. We report a case of a patient who presented with the lateral medullary syndrome and panuveitis as her initial manifestation of sarcoidosis. The patient's course was further complicated by renal involvement. Lacrimal gland and renal biopsies showed noncaseating granulomas without evidence of infection, establishing the diagnosis. Intracranial vertebral artery involvement was confirmed by brain imaging. Bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy with upper lobe predominant nodules on chest imaging was consistent with asymptomatic pulmonary involvement. Tau, the main component of the neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs), is an attractive target for immunotherapy in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other tauopathies. MC1/Alz50 are currently the only antibodies targeting a disease-specific conformational modification of tau. Passive immunization experiments using intra-peritoneal injections have previously shown that MC1 is effective at reducing tau pathology in the forebrain of tau transgenic JNPL3 mice. In order to reach a long-term and sustained brain delivery, and avoid multiple injection protocols, we tested the efficacy of the single-chain variable fragment of MC1 (scFv-MC1) to reduce tau pathology in the same animal model, with focus on brain …
