OBJECTIVE: To evaluate which of the different sonographic definitions of isolated polyhydramnios (elevated amniotic fluid index [AFI] alone, elevated maximum vertical pocket [MVP] alone, or both elevated AFI and MVP) is best associated with adverse perinatal outcomes.

STUDY DESIGN: This retrospective case-control study included singleton pregnancies undergoing sonographic surveillance at a tertiary referral center between February 2021 and January 2026. OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether lung microbial composition differs between individuals with rheumatoid arthritis and pulmonary fibrosis (RA-PF) compared to those without fibrosis (RA-no-PF).

METHODS: We enrolled 54 RA patients (22 RA-PF, 32 RA-no-PF) from rheumatology and pulmonary clinics. PF was defined by high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) findings. Induced sputum was analyzed using 16 S rRNA sequencing to identify the relative abundance of sputum bacteria. Taxonomic differences between groups were evaluated using three independent analytic approaches: Mann-Whitney U, DESeq2, and EdgeR, with false discovery rate correction. Logistic regression examined associations between Lautropia abundance and clinical variables.

BACKGROUND: Following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH), aneurysm rebleeding leads to very poor clinical outcomes. Ruptured aneurysms must be urgently secured either by open microsurgery or endovascular techniques to prevent re-rupture. BACKGROUND: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) undergoing lower extremity revascularization (LER) face high risks of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and major adverse limb events (MALE), despite guideline-directed lipid-lowering therapy. BACKGROUND: Conferences are an important venue for trainees and students to engage in scholarly activities and networking. However, cost presents a significant consideration for students looking to attend conferences as institutional funding varies. In this study, we analyze the attendance costs of vascular conferences.

METHODS: Thirty-one vascular surgery conferences were identified with 12 regional and 6 national, and 13 international. Invitation-only conferences were excluded from the analysis. Cost of attendance was stratified by early and regular registration timing and attending, trainee, and student status. Military burn pits used during post-9/11 U.S. military deployments functioned as uncontrolled combustion systems and were widely utilized to dispose of large volumes of outdoor waste by burning. Burn pits involved heterogeneous waste materials burned under variable temperature and oxygen conditions. These combustion environments generated complex, toxic, multipollutant airborne emission mixtures that included particulate matter (PM2.5), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This narrative review synthesizes epidemiologic, experimental, and mechanistic evidence linking burn pit emissions to disruption of the lung–brain axis and adverse neurological outcomes. Otalgia in adults is often secondary to non-otologic pathology, particularly with normal otoscopic examination. Auriculotemporal neuralgia (ATN) is a rare and overlooked cause of secondary otalgia. We present a case of an Army veteran with chronic right otalgia and dizziness following blast-related mild traumatic brain injury who was initially diagnosed with vestibular migraine. Despite significant improvement in headache symptoms with migraine-directed preventive and abortive treatments, otalgia persisted. Auriculotemporal nerve block produced complete but short-lived pain relief, confirming ATN. Cryoneurolysis of the auriculotemporal nerve resulted in complete resolution of otalgia for 2-3 months after first and second treatments. However, transient worsening …

Background/Objectives: In the first months of their life, infants rely on maternal antibodies for immune protection. Breastmilk is a major source of these defenses, supplying secretory IgA, IgG, and IgM that help guard mucosal surfaces against pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2. Most studies on breastmilk immunity in the context of COVID-19 have emphasized circulating monomeric IgA, rather than the multimeric secretory IgA (sIgA) that is active at mucosal barriers. Cartilage extracellular matrix (ECM), a hydrated collagen II-aggrecan composite, undergoes dynamic turnover during both normal homeostasis and disease-associated remodeling. This study elucidates a crucial role for decorin in promoting the retention and stability of nascent aggrecan within this matrix. By applying bio-orthogonal click-labeling, we demonstrate that loss of decorin accelerates the release of nascent aggrecan under both physiological and inflammatory conditions, without affecting its preferential localization to the pericellular matrix. Conversely, supplementation with exogenous decorin mitigates inflammation-induced loss of nascent aggrecan, supporting its potential as a therapeutic target. Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency characterized by severe hyperthermia and acute central nervous system (CNS) dysfunction. We describe a 72-year-old man who was found unresponsive in his vehicle on a day with ambient temperatures exceeding 90°F. On arrival, his core temperature was 105.8°F, and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score was 5. Despite prompt initiation of active cooling and supportive care with normalization of body temperature, the patient developed persistent and fluctuating encephalopathy. Mitochondria undergo fusion and fission. While DRP1 regulates fission, fusion is controlled by OPA1, MFN1, and MFN2. The balance between these processes and the crosstalk between machineries remains poorly understood. MFN2 mutations cause Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2 A (CMT2A), affecting mitochondrial fusion and morphology. However, their role in fission is unclear. Using skin fibroblasts from CMT2A patients (L248H and M376V MFN2 mutations) and wild-type mouse embryonic fibroblasts expressing these variants, we studied how MFN2 mutations impact mitochondrial dynamics beyond fusion. Light exposure plays an important role in overall health because it entrains circadian rhythms. Recent technological advances in wearable light loggers allow measurement daily light exposure habits. Using a chest-worn light logger, our goal was to (1) develop methodology for differentiating adherent versus non-adherent use, and (2) define differences in lighting intensity in indoor and outdoor environments, to improve data reliability in future clinical studies using this technology. BACKGROUND: CSF immunoglobulin (IgG) often informs diagnosis in CNS inflammatory disease- qualitatively (oligoclonal bands; OCBs), or quantitatively (CSF: serum IgG: albumin, e.g. IgG index). Most US laboratories estimate excess CSF IgG using linear models, most in Europe, Reiber's hyperbolic model - the latter often also incorporated into CSF pathogen-specific immunoreactivity calculations. We compared Reiber hyperbolic and linear approaches.

METHODS: Required data were available for 1,872 samples, Lyme-specific data for 1,365.
