Cigarette smoke contains high concentrations of oxidants and reactive oxygen species. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of long-term cigarette smoking on glutathione (GSH) levels in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid. Nineteen current cigarette smokers and seven healthy nonsmoking volunteers were included in the study. BAL was performed by infusion of five sequential 20 ml aliquots and each aliquot was immediately aspirated. The levels of GSH were determined in BAL fluids. The aim of this study is to examine expression of Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and p53 oncoprotein in gastric neuroendocrine tumors. 35 gastric neuroendocrine tumors were analyzed for first histopathologic features and then, immunohistochemical study was done to detect labeling index of PCNA and accumulation of p53 protein by using monoclonal antibodies and the Labeled strepavidin-biotin method. PCNA labeling index and p53 protein expression were compared with histopatholoic features in statistical methods of Fisher's exact, chi square and logistic regression tests. During the dissection of an amputed leg, we discovered a combined variation involving the branching of the popliteal artery and tibial nerve. The popliteal artery showed a trifurcation pattern, and one of its branches, the posterior tibial artery, was hypoplastic. In addition, a small branch arising from the tibial nerve in the upper part of the leg distally crossed the peroneal artery and contributed to the medial plantar nerve. The various physiological characters of Caucasian, C. Anatolian and Erzurum honeybee (A. mellifera L.) genotypes in the conditions of Erzurum were examined in this study. The survival rates of genotypes for the wintering and production periods were found to be 81.82 % and 70.00 %, 90.00 % and 77.78 %, 100.00 % and 90.00% respectively. During the wintering period, 18.18 % and 10.00 % of colonies in Caucasian and C. Anatolian groups respectively died; but no colony from the Erzurum group was lost. The upper respiratory airways of 367 horses that were healthy but had poor performance in races were examined by endoscope. Disturbances were observed in the following percentages: nasopharyngeal follicular hyperplasia 65.49%, entrapment of the epiglottis 12.3%, larve of Rhinoestrus equi 13.6%, anomalia of the epiglottis 0.27%, neoplasm of the nasopharynx and larynx 87%, left pharyngeal hemiplegia 1.63%, deformation of the nasal bone 0.27% and damaged nasopharynx 0.54%. The aetiology and pathogenesis of these disturbances and their effects on racing performance were investigated.

In this study, it is aimed to decrease lambing interval of Karacabey Merino sheep. For this reason,in June and March, sheep were mated in the interval of 8 month. Fertility traits such as oestrus, pregnancy, parturition, lambing rate and that of twinning and litter size were 99.35, 90.25, 88.96, 1327.01, 52.55 % and 1.54 respectively in June. The values of same fertility traits were 95.17, 82.75, 78.62, 105.51, 34.21 % and 1.34 respectively in March. LIn this study, the age and season of reproduction, and fecundity of Alburnoide bipunctatus fasciatis caught from Oltu Stream between August 1995 and July 1996 were investigated. Both males and females reached at sexual mature at the age of two. In the Oltu Stream, the Alburnoides bipunctatus fasciatis began to spawn at the end of May when water temperature was 16 °C and the spawning continued to the end of the July when water temperature was 25°C. The mean individual and relative fecundity were determined as 13135±1107 eggs/female and 707700±52129 eggs/female respectively. A study was conducted on the existence, structure and localization of membraneous and myelinated bodies which appear within the cerebral ganglion and neural gland, which are the components of the neural complex of Ciona intestinalis (Tunicata, Ascidiacea). According to the literature, these structures occur within the cytoplasm of a normal cell, but it was observed that they increase in number and show exhibit greater morphological intricacy in connection with certain physiological events.

Intracardiac blood pressure was determined in twenty-seven healthy adult mongrel dogs weighting 14-32 kg. Cardiac catheterization was used to measure intracardiac blood pressure. A Pingtail catheter was placed in the aorta and the left ventricle via the A. carotis communis, and a Swanz-Ganz catheter was placed in the right ventricle via the V. jugularis. End-systolic blood pressure was found to be 113±3.1 mm/Hg in the left ventricle 53±2.9 mm/Hg in the right ventricle, 3±2.5 mm/Hg in the left atrium, 3±1.3 mm/Hg in the right atrium and 127±3 mm/Hg in the aorta. The aim of this study was to investigate the relations of the serum zinc and the Vitamin A, \beta-carotene concentrations depend on physiological conditions and seasonal effects in Angora Goats raised in Lalahan Livestock Research Institute. Healthy, 2-years old Angora Goats (n = 26) were used in this study. The blood samples were collected four times through the year to cover the whole seasons. In this study, the effects of different lighting schedules on the performance and electricity use of broilers were compared. The study was undertaken in controlled chambers and a total of 1900 broilers were divided into 10 groups consisting of 190 broilers (12.85 chicks/m^2). This study was caried out to determine the effects of weighing, after 0 or 18 hours of starvation period of chicks and at intervals of 1 or 2 week or at the end of starter and finisher period on the live weight and feed convertion rate of broilers. In conclusion, weighing at intervals 2 weeks of broilers which fed continously to the slaughter resulted the greatest live weight and also feed convertion rate.

A study was conducted on external myiasis of livestock in Elazığ and its districts (Sivrice, Kovancılar, Baskil and Salkaya) in 1994-1995. Eight species of myiasis flies including Lucilia sericata, L. caesar, Calliphora vicina, C. vomitoria, Chrysomya albiceps, Wohlfahrtia magnifica, Sarcophaga haemorrhoidalis and S. carnaria were determined and published seperately. In addition, morphological and biological characteristics of larvae of Lucilia sericata, Calliphora vicina, Wohlfahrtia magnifica and Sarcophaga haemorrhoidalis were investigated under laboratory conditions as well. A study was carried out on morphology and seasonal distribution of myiasis flies in Elazığ and its districts (Sivrice, Kovancılar, Baskil and Salkaya) in 1994-1995. Putrified meat, liver and spleen pieces were used as baits to attract and congregate myiasis flies. In addition the baits were treated with Golden Malrin to kill the attracted flies for collection. This research was conducted to determine the effect of different feeds on the growth rate of mullet juveniles (M. auratus R. 1810). Juveniles with a initial mean weight of 14.15 g and 14.71 g were feed a semi-moist diet (%50 trout viscera + %25 soybean meal + %25 high quality wheat bran) and carp pellets for a period of 60 days in marine cages. This study was conducted to determine the presence of Listeria spp. and the serotype distribution of L. monocytogenes in fifty frozen broiler carcass samples obtained from different producers. USDA/FSIS suggested method was used for the isolation and identification of Listeria spp. Overall, 5 different Listeria species could be isolated from 94 % of frozen broiler carcasses. L. innocua was the most prevalent species with 90 % (45/50) followed by L. monocytogenes with 30 % (15/50), L. welshimeri with % 8 (4/50), L. grayi with 2 % (1/50) and L. murrayi with % 2 (1/50) respectively. In this study, S.enteritidis PT1, 4 and 7 strains isolated from chickens were used. Suspensions containing 10^9 bacteria were inoculated orally to 45 quails. Pathological lesions were examined and bacterial isolation were performed during about 30 days. In 3^{rd} days of experiment, one quail died in PT1 group. In macroscopic examinations, hyperemia and change of colour in liver and slight enlargement in spleen were observed. In microscopic examinations, degeneration, necrose and typhoid nodes were seen in liver. Terminal carbohydrate moieties of apolipoproteins of lipoproteins in human and goat serum were ascertained and compared. Apolipoproteins of \beta+pre-\beta (apolipoprotein B containing lipoproteins) and a lipoproteins separated by phosphotungstic acid/MgCl_2 precipitation method were applied to SDS-PAGE and blotted onto nitrocellulose membrane. The objective of this study was the inhibition of L. monocytogenes (SLCC 9488) serotype 4b, indicated great importance in foodborne listeriosis, by using bacteriocin producer starter cultures as Pediococcus acidilactici PAC 1.0 and Lactobacillus sake Lb 706 in fermented Turkish sausage (sucuk), ripened at 20° and 25°C. This study was carried out on 4 dogs with bilateral carpal hyperextension that treated in Ankara University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Orthopaedics and Traumatology Clinic. In clinical examination, it was found that the angle of the stepped carpal joints were between 250° and 270°. Furthermore, there were wounds at volar sites of carpal joints. There were no lesions seen radiographically. The study was carried out to investigate the effect of adding lutein, alfalfa meal, marigold meal, paprika meal, ?-apo-8'-carotenoic acid ethyl ester, canthaxanthin and ?-apo-8'-carotenoic acid ethyl ester+canthaxanthin (3:1) on egg yolk pigmentation and production in white corn and wheat diets. The maximum Roche color fan (RCF) value was found in canthaxanthin and the mixture of ?-apo-8'-carotenoic acid ethyl ester and canthaxantin. The study was carried out to investigate the effect of lutein, alfalfa meal, marigold meal, paprika meal, \beta-apo-8'-carotenoic acit ethyl ester, canthaxanthin and \beta -apo-8'-carotenoic acit ethyl ester+canthaxanthin in addition to 60% yellow corn diets on egg yolk pigmentation and production. Paprika meal showed the maximum Roche color fan value (RCF). \beta -apo-8'-carotenoic acit ethyl ester, alfalfa meal and marigold meal showed the highest \beta -carotene equivalents value (BCE). The maximum Hunter L value was found in the control group. Paprika meal showed the maximum Hunter a value. Lutein had the highest Hunter b value (P0.01).

The research has been conducted on the use of mediterranean mussel in feed for rainbow trout reared in sea cages in Black Sea. In the research which was carried out for 39 days in the sea cage unit of the Ondokuz Mayis University Fisheries Faculty of Sinop, 480 rainbow trouts with initial mean weights of 120 g were used. Totally nine healthy and mature dogs were used in the study. Two of which were served as controls and remaining seven dogs were assigned to experimental group. Gentamicin sulphate was given to induce nephrotoxicity at the dose of 10 mg/kg body weight every 8 hours for 10 consecutive days. The samples of blood and urine were taken twice before the experiment and every other day during gentamicin infection and for 5 days after gentamicin injection was ceased.
