Background/aim: The aim of the study is to examine the relationship among bone density, adipose tissue, and muscle mass with abdominal CT in geriatric patients.Materials and methods: The study is a retrospective cohort study of patients 65 years and over who underwent abdominal CT for any reason between October 2017 and July 2018. Third lumbar vertebra density, fatty degeneration of the paraspinal muscle, subcutaneous adipose tissue, and mesenteric adipose tissue ratio were evaluated. Background/aim: Ruxolitinib, a JAK/STAT signaling pathway inhibitor targeted drug, has been approved for the controlling of disease symptoms and splenomegaly in patients with myeloproliferative neoplastic diseases. Background/aim: Verrucous epidermal nevi are cutaneous hamartomas with many clinical variants. Dermoscopic features of verrucous epidermal nevus have rarely been investigated. We aimed to identify dermoscopic findings of the entity which will facilitate the diagnostic process by reducing the use of invasive diagnostic methods. Materials and methods: The study included the patients with histopathologically approved verrucous epidermal nevus. Clinical, dermoscopic, and histopathological features of the patients were retrospectively reviewed and the findings identified were recorded. Background/aim: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and cryotherapy and to scrutinize the therapeutic success of the RENAL (radius, exophytic/endophytic, nearness to collecting system, anterior/posterior, and location) nephrometry score in terms of possible complications and the predictive status of oncological results.Materials and methods: Forty-five patients with biopsy-proven renal cell carcinomas (32 males, 13 females) treated with RFA and cryotherapy were included. Background/aim: Turkey accepts refugees from many countries, principally Syria. More than 2.7 million refugees live in Turkey.We evaluated the neonatal outcomes of refugees. Materials and methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical and demographic characteristics of refugee infants born in our hospital between August 2013 and September 2016. Results: Refugees (718 Syrian, 136 Iraqi, 32 Afghani, and 21 of other nationalities) accounted for 907 of 49,413 births. The mean refugee maternal age was lower than that of Turkish women, whereas the gestational age (GA) and birthweight were similar. Refugees required fewer cesarean sections but exhibited greater small- and large-for-GA rates (P < 0.05). Refugee and Turkish infant mortality rates did not differ significantly (0.8 vs. 0.4%). Eighty-nine (12.3%) refugee neonates and 6682 (13.5%) Turkish neonates were admitted to our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). We aimed to assess the association between retinal vascular caliber (RVC) scores and disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients.Materials and methods: Forty-seven RA patients, 32 systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients, and 45 healthy people were enrolled. RA and SLE patients were subdivided into groups according to C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. RA patients were also grouped according to Disease Activity Score-28 (DAS-28). The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutritional status of children with cerebral palsy and determine the particular characteristics of the disorder. Materials and methods: The nutritional status of the children was assessed by the Gomez classification using weight-for-age. GDF15, hepcidin and mitoferrin-1 (mfrn-1) are proteins involved in systemic iron regulation. There are no studies in the literature demonstrating the serum mfrn-1 levels in polycythemia vera (PV) and essential thrombocythemia (ET) patients. The aim of this study was to investigate GDF15, hepcidin and mfrn-1 levels in PV and ET patients.Materials and methods: Ten PV, 17 ET patients, and 27 healthy controls (HCs) were enrolled. GDF15, hepcidin and mfrn-1 values were measured with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Results: GDF15 levels were higher in the myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) group (P = 0.002). This study aimed to investigate the consistency between stroke and general neurologists in subtype assignment using the Trial of ORG-10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment (TOAST) and Causative Classification of Stroke (CCS) systems.Materials and methods: Fifty consecutive acute ischemic stroke patients admitted to the stroke unit were recruited.
