Background/aim: Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) is an autoimmune disease that leads to tissue stiffening secondary to lymphocyte infiltration of the thyroid gland. Gray-scale ultrasound (US) is widely used in its diagnosis. Numerous studies have been conducted comparing elastography findings of HT with tissue stiffness and immunoreactivity levels. Background/aim: Bone disease is one of the most prominent complications after kidney transplantation. Bone diseases include osteoporosis, persistent secondary hyperparathyroidism, and avascular necrosis (AVN). We investigated the relationship between the polymorphisms of the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene and bone diseases occurring after kidney transplantation. Materials and methods: The study consists of 234 kidney allograft recipients with a minimum follow-up of five years after kidney transplantation. Background/aim: In the present study we aimed to figure out the effect of metformin on the expression of AMPK-alpha, cyclin D1, and Tp53, and apoptosis in primary breast cancer cells (PBCCs). Materials and methods: PBCCs were treated with two doses of metformin (0 mM, 25 mM). Proliferation was determined by BrdU assay. Real-time PCR was used to assess AMPK-alpha, cyclin D1, and Tp53 gene expressions; apoptotic indexes of PBCCs were analyzed using flow-cytometry. The aim of this study was to investigate the antibacterial effects of NSAIDs on Staphylococcus aureus. Materials and methods: Susceptibilities of S. aureus strains to NSAIDs with or without antimicrobials (moxifloxacin, vancomycin, ciprofloxacin, clindamycin, and gentamicin) were determined using the microdilution method and disk diffusion test. The study was conducted in Chagni Cattle Bred Improvement and Andassa Livestock Research Center of Western, Amhara region to evaluate the survival rate of pure Fogera and their HolsteinFriesian crossbred calves. A retrospective type of study design was used for conducting the study. The data used in the study was taken from the records of Chagni ranch and Andassa Livestock Research Center between 2011 and 2017. The survival rates were estimated by using cox regression and Kaplan-Meier model of Stata software. Vanadium is one of the essential trace elements for mammals, which has important functions in the metabolism of carbohydrates. There is limited data about the effects of vanadium (IV) chloride supplementation on appetite-related hormones in literature. Our target was to analyse the impacts of vanadium supplementation on appetite-related hormone (leptin, nesfatin-1 and apelin) levels in rats with experimentally induced diabetes. Twenty eight male Sprague-Dawley albino rats were used in this study. After formation of diabetes, 0.3 mg/mL of vanadium was added to drinking water of rats for four weeks. A substantial increment was found in serum glucose (p < 0.001), HbA1c (p < 0.001), HOMA-IR (p < 0.01), and leptin (p < 0.001) levels and a significant decrease in insulin, apelin and nesfatin-1 concentrations in diabetic rats. Moreover, blood glucose, HbA1c, HOMA-IR, and leptin levels decreased in diabetic + vanadium group, but nesfatin-1 (1.74 ± 0.94 ng/mL), apelin (1.74 ± 0.94 ng/mL), and insulin concentrations were found higher compared with the diabetic group. As a result of this study, vanadium has increased the levels of circulating nesfatin-1 and apelin levels in diabetic rats while decreasing blood glucose and leptin concentrations. But further studies are required to determine the blood glucose lowering effects of vanadium and its relationship with appetite related hormones in diabet.

The present study evaluated the effect of different selection strategies in four closebred flocks (CBF) at three ages on subsequent breeder performance and carcass traits. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of metabolic syndrome on spermatozoon morphology and histological, histochemical, histomorphometric changes in the testes. Twenty-four male Sprague Dawley rats (60 day-olds) were used for this purpose.
