Structural Transformation Of A Hydrogel-Forming Cell Division Protein Zapb Of Multidrug Resistant Klebsiella Pneumoniae With Small Molecules, Ayesha Khan, M. Iqbal Choudhary, Sumaira Javaid, Humaira Zafar, Innokentiy Maslennikov, Atia-Tul Wahab

Pharmacy Faculty Articles and Research

Septal ring assembly protein ZapB (EMR18431.1) is involved in Z-ring formation, and nucleoid segregation during the bacterial cell division . It promotes cell division in the initial stages of the cell cycle through direct interaction with FtsZ, thus stimulating Z-ring assembly. The ZapB inhibition can make bacterial cell susceptible to primary antibiotics, and therefore considered as an important approach for adjuvent therapy against MDR bacterial infections. Hence in the current study, ZapB protein of multidrug resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae was cloned, and expressed in E. coli system. To understand its role, and to assess the mechanism of ZapB activation, the characteristic …

Bio-Cybersecurity: Securing The Healthcare Industry, Amanda D. Coleman

Cybersecurity Undergraduate Research Showcase

Bio-cybersecurity refers to the aspect of cybersecurity that applies to the biological sciences and the protection of digital biomedical information. Today’s healthcare industry has evolved with the enhancement of internet and biomedical technology. While hospitals and private medical providers remain compliant with the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) through traditional means of securing documented patient information, the emergence of beneficial internet-based healthcare services like virtual appointments and digital patient records requires new policies and healthcare cybersecurity frameworks to protect sensitive information from unauthorized access. This paper examines the role of cybersecurity in healthcare, the vulnerabilities that exist and …

Supporting Emotional Wellness After Neurologic Injury: Development Of A Workbook To Improve Self-Awareness And Healthy Habits, Erin L. O'Donnell Apr 2026

Supporting Emotional Wellness After Neurologic Injury: Development Of A Workbook To Improve Self-Awareness And Healthy Habits, Erin L. O'Donnell

Entry-Level Occupational Therapy Doctorate - Doctoral Capstone Symposium

Emotional challenges such as depression, anxiety, loss of identity, and reduced motivation are common after neurologic injury and can hinder rehabilitation and daily functioning (Guo et al., 2022; Villa et al., 2018; Raggi et al., 2024). However, traditional rehabilitation often emphasizes physical recovery, with fewer accessible interventions targeting emotional wellness. This capstone project addresses this gap by developing and evaluating an emotional wellness workbook to support recovery, incorporating evidence that lifestyle factors like exercise can improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety (Carek et al., 2011). Guided by the Person-Environment-Occupation-Performance (PEOP) model (Bass et al., 2024), this quality …

From Missed To Measured: Understanding And Elevating Functional Cognition In Occupational Therapy, Taylor Card, Zeida Gutierrez, Gordon Giles

Spring 2026 OTD Capstone Symposium

Functional cognition is critical to occupational performance but is often inconsistently assessed in occupational therapy practice. This mixed-methods study explored practitioners’ perspectives, assessment practices, and barriers across clinical settings. Findings revealed a reliance on observation over standardized, performance-based assessments, despite strong recognition of its importance. Barriers included time constraints, limited resources, and role ambiguity. Results highlight a gap between current practice and evidence-based approaches, supporting the need for increased education and improved access to practical assessment tools.

Risk Factors Affecting Functional Outcomes Of Traumatic Brain Injury Patients During Long-Term Acute Care Hospital Rehabilitation, Arturo Olazabal Apr 2026

Risk Factors Affecting Functional Outcomes Of Traumatic Brain Injury Patients During Long-Term Acute Care Hospital Rehabilitation, Arturo Olazabal

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major public health concern associated with long-term disability and high healthcare utilization. Evidence guiding post-acute rehabilitation for medically complex TBI populations remains limited, particularly in long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) settings serving medically unstable patients. This study examined clinical and system-level factors associated with functional rehabilitation outcomes among adults with moderate-to-severe TBI in LTACHs. Guided by the Socioecological Model, recovery was conceptualized as interactions across individual, clinical, and organizational levels. This dissertation included three manuscripts using cross-sectional logistic regression and CMS Section GG measures. In Manuscript 1, longer time from injury to LTACH admission …

Review Of The Hemodynamic Effects Of Nitroglycerin Use In Acute Myocardial Infarction Subtypes, John Charles Apr 2026

Review Of The Hemodynamic Effects Of Nitroglycerin Use In Acute Myocardial Infarction Subtypes, John Charles

Research Day

Background: Nitroglycerin (NTG) is a medication commonly used for chest pain, often administered in prehospital settings during acute myocardial infarctions (AMI). Current guidelines from the American Heart Association (AHA) and European Society of Cardiology (ESC) recommend avoiding NTG in suspected right ventricular myocardial infarctions (RVMI).

Objectives: Review the hemodynamic effects of nitroglycerin in acute myocardial infarction subtypes to reevaluate the validity of its contraindications.

Method: PubMed and Google Scholar databases were searched, yielding five publications that retrospectively analyzed the effects of NTG on blood pressure (BP) in AMI.

Results: Recent evidence suggests that NTG does not cause a harmful hemodynamic …
