This letter, written on August 18, 1943, by the American Hospital Association (AHA), was sent to hospital administrators to stress the urgent need for more nurses during World War II. It explains how there was a serious nursing shortage and encourages hospitals to help with recruitment efforts for the United States Cadet Nurse Corps, a program created under the Bolton Act. The AHA, along with the Catholic Hospital Association and the American Protestant Hospital Association, wanted hospitals to serve as information centers where potential nursing students could learn more about the program. The digestive tube proper of the Sparrow beings with the Oesophagus. This is a soft tubular organ which serves to convey food rapidly from the pharynx to the stomach. It extends along the median ventral margin of the neck lying dorsal to or to one side of the trachea. Posteriorly, at the base of the neck and shortly in front of the sternum it broadens slightly and gives rise to a dilated region of the oesophagus, namely the Crop, "whose secretion serves to moisten the food or even to initiate digestion." this research was undertaken primarily to discover the use of a capillary cross-arm "U" tube in the determi­nation of the electrophoretic and other electrical proper­ ties of a plastic emulsion.

The primary objective was to determine the isoelectric point of the emulsion and also the optimum pH or electro-endosmotic motion.

The secondary and distant objective was to note when, how, and it any coherent plating on the electrodes took place.

The Incidence Of Human Infestation With Trichinella Spiralis As Revealed By The Examination Of 570 Diaphragms At The Louisville General Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky., Letitia S. Kimsey

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

With the advent of improved methods of examination of muscle tissue for the presence of Trichinella spiralis and the detection of trichinosis by the skin and precipitin tests, there has been an awakening of interest in the disease which has resulted in a greatly increased volume of statistical data. The present survey was undertaken with the thought in mind that it might be of statistical interest to determine the incidence of infestation with Trichinella spiralis in patients coming to autopsy at the Louisville General Hospital. This incidence was determined by the examination of the diaphragms of these patients.

Speech is one of the most obvious indicators of the child's development when he enters school. The five-year-old child should be able to do the following when he enters Kindergarten: a. Express his needs and thoughts in short sentences. b. Use a vocabulary of meaningful words when speaking of common every-day experience. c. Enunciate and pronounce words clearly enough to be understood, not using baby talk. About this same level of achievement should be expected of the six-year-old who has not had Kindergarten.
