Cheating As A Function Of The Labeling Of Natural Arousal, Richard A. Dienstbier, Pamela Osbourne Hunter Jan 1971

Cheating As A Function Of The Labeling Of Natural Arousal, Richard A. Dienstbier, Pamela Osbourne Hunter

Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications

One hundred and five college freshmen were given one of two different side-effects lists associated with a placebo pill. In a “second” experiment, subjects experienced failure on a vocabulary test, supposedly predictive of college success, and received an opportunity to cheat on the test by changing answers. Although it was anticipated that all subjects who considered cheating would experience some arousal, it was predicted that those subjects told to expect drug-induced side effects related to sympathetic arousal would not label their experienced arousal as fear or guilt, and would cheat more than the subjects who anticipated benign side effects. Effects Of Thiabendazole Treatment On Weight Gains By Nebraska Range Cattle, D. L. Ferguson, D. A. Reynolds, M. J. Twiehaus Jan 1971

Effects Of Thiabendazole Treatment On Weight Gains By Nebraska Range Cattle, D. L. Ferguson, D. A. Reynolds, M. J. Twiehaus

School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences: Faculty Publications

The results of these studies indicate that a high percentage of Nebraska range cattle are infected with gastrointestinal parasites, but at a subclinical level of infection. However, significant differences were not observed in average daily gain between thiabendazole-treated range cattle and unmedicated controls in three of four field trials. In the three trials the average improvement in daily gain in animals receiving thiabendazole once averaged .01 lb greater than untreated controls. During a 120 day grazing period this improvement would not be sufficient to pay for the wormer or cost of additional labor.

The Effect Of Stimulus Element Redundancy On Speed Of Discrimination As A Function Of State And Process Limitation, John H. Flowers, W. R. Garner Jan 1971

The Effect Of Stimulus Element Redundancy On Speed Of Discrimination As A Function Of State And Process Limitation, John H. Flowers, W. R. Garner

Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications

The effect of spatially repeated stimulus elements on the speed of discrimination, measured in a sorting task, was determined under conditions of low stimulus visibility (state limitation) and high stimulus similarity (process limitation). A significant increase in speed of sorting stimuli was found when the stimuli were state limited but not when process limited, even though base speeds were the same in both cases. It is concluded that element redundancy will improve discrimination performance only when the need for the improvement is a state limitation.

A Study Of Families With Stress Related To The Care Of Children With Myelomeningocele, Janet L. Ferguson, Russel Tweed Jan 1971

A Study Of Families With Stress Related To The Care Of Children With Myelomeningocele, Janet L. Ferguson, Russel Tweed

Dissertations and Theses

This was an exploratory-descriptive study of fifty children afflicted with myelomeningocele, ages one through six, who were known to the Myelomeningocele Clinic of the Crippled Children’s Division. The study identified the degree of multiple physical, emotional, and environmental stress factors that families must be prepared to cope with. The study identified eleven factors felt to play an important role in family dynamics and how they related to the families response to their child with myelomeningocele. The factors were tested and found to be valid by the use of a pre-test on ten case records. Medical records were then obtained from …

The Generalization Of Cognate Sounds During Speech Therapy, Marilyn Ginther Jan 1971

The Generalization Of Cognate Sounds During Speech Therapy, Marilyn Ginther

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

Two primary areas are investigated in this study; 1) a single subject replication of Shelton and Elbert (1967 a&b), in which generalization from a voiceless sound /s/ to its voiced cognate /z/ is tested; 2) a reversal of the Shelton and Elbert (1967 a&b) procedure with a single subject to determine if training on a voiced phoneme /z/ will generalize to its voiceless cognate /s/. A third area of interest will be to see if any change will occur on the phoneticallydissimilar sound /r/ in either subject.

An Assessment Of The Role Of Information Inherent In Positive And Aversive Social Reinforcement Employing A Finger Maze Task With Male And Female Subjects And Experimenters, Brian Westley Strutt

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

Forty-eight male and 48 female grade 12 high school students were assigned in groups of 8 to a 2 (sex of S X 3 (treatment) X 2 (sex of E) factorial design experiment. Each S was presented with a finger maze task under one of three experimental treatments: censure-nothing with S being told “WRONG” for an incorrect response, nothing for a correct response; reward-nothing, with S being told “CORRECT” for a correct response, nothing for an incorrect response; nothing-nothing, with Ss being told nothing for either a correct or incorrect response. The task required that a binary decision be made …
