Prebriefing: An Effective And Efficient Strategy To Maximize Simulation Based Learning, Ashley Krebs, Susan Lacey
Journal of Interprofessional Practice and Collaboration
Developing and implementing effective teaching methods require careful planning and time-intensive implementation by nursing faculty and their leadership (Fey & Jenkins, 2015). This is especially true when introducing new strategies. Simulation-based learning (SBL) is one such strategy. SBL is an evidence-based approach that enhances student learning and promotes knowledge retention necessary to safely provide care for patients (Kirkman, 2013). However, the adoption and implementation of SBL is highly variable across schools of nursing and other disciplines (Hayden, 2010).

The need for interprofessional education in the health professions has been recognized for many years. In 1998, the Pew Health Professions Commission identified the need for interdisciplinary teams as an endeavor to strive for in the 21st century. A variety of terms have been used to describe this pedagogic practice including shared learning, interprofessional …
Impact Of An Educational Intervention On Faculty To Faculty Incivility, Sandy Bailey
Impact Of An Educational Intervention On Faculty To Faculty Incivility, Sandy Bailey
Journal of Interprofessional Practice and Collaboration
: Faculty –to- faculty incivility within schools of nursing is a growing problem. Incivility amongst nursing faculty has the potential to effect other nursing faculty, nursing students, the school of nursing, and increase the risk of harm to patients in the clinical setting. A common recommendation for addressing faculty-to-faculty incivility is an educational offering about civility, incivility, and methods to address incivility. Ideally, an educational intervention about incivility can decrease levels of incivility in nursing education thereby increasing the amount of civility within the organization. The purpose of the research was to measure the impact of an educational intervention on …

Retinoid X Receptor (RXR) is a nuclear receptor with important roles in cell death, development, and metabolism. However, little is known about its role in EO. In this study, the agonist SR11237 was used to evaluate RXR activation in EO. Rats given SR11237 from post-natal day 5 to post-natal day 15 were harvested for micro-computed tomography (microCT) scanning and histology. In parallel, newborn CD1 mouse tibiae were cultured with increasing concentrations of SR11237 for histological and whole-mount evaluation. …

Synthesis Of Bis(Imino)Pyridine Iron(Ii) Complexes And Development Of Bis(Imino)Pyridine Iron(Ii) Catalyzed Carbene Transfer Reactions, Ban Wang
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Metal catalysis of symmetric and asymmetric carbene transfer reactions has been widely applied in natural product synthesis and material science over years. Metal carbene can be easily generated from the extrusion of nitrogen under the catalysis of metal complexes to further undergo various organic reactions, O/N/C-H insertions, cycloadditions, and ylide formations. Currently, the dominant effective catalysts for carbene reactions are built with expensive precious metal, for example, rhodium, ruthenium, palladium, gold. Notably, the effective reactivity and enantioselectivity of the dirhodium(II) catalysts are researched and established over the decades. However, the use of precious metal catalysts is the major source of …

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the etiologic agent for cervical cancer with HPV type 16 (HPV16) being found in about 50% of cervical cancers worldwide. HPVs vary in genomic (DNA) sequence not only between types, but also within types, known as variants. Variants of a particular HPV type may differ by up to 2% in nucleotide sequence in the coding region and up to 5% in the noncoding region. Variants within HPV16 have been identified and grouped into six distinct phylogenetic branches, which segregate geographically: European (E), Asian-American (As.A), African-1 (Af-1), African-2 (Af- 2), Asian (As), and North American (NA). However, …

The endoplasmic reticulum is the site where integral membrane and secreted proteins are synthesized and folded, and is also the site of synthesis of steroids, lipids, and other macromolecules. While ER is found in most cell types, hepatocytes in particular contain large amounts of both rough and smooth ER to facilitate their tasks, which include lipoprotein assembly and secretion, cholesterol biosynthesis, and lipid metabolism. As such, stress in the ER – and the cells’ ability to respond to it – plays a key role in disease pathogenesis. In particular, hepatic steatosis, or fatty liver, is linked to ER stress. However, …

Oral anticoagulants are a critical component of stroke prevention, but carry a risk of brain hemorrhage. These hemorrhagic complications tend to occur in elderly individuals, especially those with predisposing conditions such as cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). Clinical evidence suggests that non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants are safer than traditional oral anticoagulants. We analyzed whether the anticoagulant dabigatran produces cerebral microhemorrhage (the pathological substrate of MRI-demonstrable cerebral microbleeds) or intracerebral hemorrhage in aged mice with and without hemorrhage-predisposing angiopathy. We studied aged (22 months old) Tg2576 (a model of CAA) and wild-type (WT) littermate mice. Mice received either dabigatran etexilate (DE) …

Penicillin allergies are among of the most commonly reported allergies, yet only 10% of these patients are truly allergic. This leads to potential inadvertent negative consequences for patients and makes treatment decisions challenging for clinicians. Thus, allergy assessment and penicillin skin testing (PST) are important management strategies to reconcile and clarify labeled penicillin allergies. While PST is more common in the inpatient setting where the results will immediately impact antibiotic management, this process is becoming of increasing importance in the outpatient setting. PST in the outpatient setting allows clinicians to proactively de-label and educate patients accordingly so beta-lactam antibiotics may …
