Closed-system transfer devices (CSTDs) are used during the preparation of hazardous drugs (HDs) as a mechanism to reduce the transfer of drugs or vapors into the environment. When evaluating these systems, pharmacists should consider which drugs in the pharmacy would benefit the safety of health care workers and patients using the systems. Medication types include neoplastic agents, such as bleomycin, cisplatin, and methotrexate, and other agents, such as cyclosporine, oxytocin, and progesterone.

The FDA has not yet approved a pharmacotherapy for cocaine use disorder despite nearly four decades of research. This study determined the initial efficacy, safety, and tolerability of naltrexone-bupropion combinations as a putative pharmacotherapy for cocaine use disorder. Thirty-one (31) non-treatment seeking participants with cocaine use disorder completed a mixed-design human laboratory study. Participants were randomly assigned to the naltrexone conditions (i.e., 0, 50 mg/day; between-subject factor) and maintained on escalating doses of bupropion (i.e., 0, 100, 200, 400 mg/day; within-subject factor) for at least four days prior to the conduct of experimental sessions. Human airway smooth muscle (HASM) is the primary target of ßAR agonists used to control airway hypercontractility in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). ßAR agonists induce the production of cAMP by adenylyl cyclases (ACs), activate PKA and cause bronchodilation. Several other G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR) expressed in human airway smooth muscle cells transduce extracellular signals through cAMP but these receptors elicit different cellular responses. Some G-protein coupled receptors couple to distinct adenylyl cyclases isoforms with different localization, partly explaining this compartmentation, but little is known about the downstream networks that result. Research in the field of psychopharmacology is ongoing to develop novel compounds which can revolutionize the treatment of psychiatric disorders. The concept of bench-to-bedside is a tedious process, transforming the initial research performed in the laboratories into novel treatment options. Schizophrenia (SCZ) is a chronic psychiatric illness with significant morbidity and mortality. SCZ not only presents with psychotic symptoms including hallucinations and delusions but also with negative and cognitive symptoms. The negative symptoms include the diminished ability to express emotions, loss of pleasure, and motivation with minimal social interactions. Background

Pharmacists have demonstrated their value in population health management (PHM). With appropriate training, advanced pharmacy practice experience (APPE) students are also well positioned to participate in PHM.

Methods

At Providence Medical Foundation, a PHM workflow was remodeled to be more standardized and incorporate APPE students into the statin quality measure improvement process. This was driven by institutional goals for quality improvement in patient care and creating a better experiential teaching opportunity. APPE students underwent three training sessions and completed clinical review of patient charts, determined statin eligibility, and completed patient outreach. Introduction

Patients at increased risk of bleeding and recurrent VTE who develop venous thromboembolism (VTE) present challenges for clinical management. This study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of apixaban vs warfarin in patients with VTE who have risk factors for bleeding or recurrences.

Methods

Adult patients with VTE initiating apixaban or warfarin were identified from five claims databases. Stabilized inverse probability treatment weighting (IPTW) was used to balance characteristics between cohorts for the main analysis. The purpose of this project was to find inhibitors of the human galactokinase (GALK) enzyme. GALK is responsible for catalyzing the conversion of galactose to galactose 1-phosphate, the first step in galactose metabolism. Galactose 1-phosphate builds up in the cells of patients with type 1 galactosemia due a genetic disorder. It has been proposed that inhibiting galactose 1-phosphate production by GALK may prevent many of the major complications of type 1 galactosemia. In recent years, immunotherapy investigational drugs in cancer research has been underway in treating multiple forms of cancer due to a lower side effect profile and decreased severe infusion-reaction risk compared to conventional chemotherapy agents. The purpose of this study was to determine the infusion reaction severity among patients receiving either chemotherapy treatment or immunotherapy agents based on the CTCAE (Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events) scale to improve patient care outcomes.

65-year-old lady suffering from cough for the last one month with white colored scanty sputum. Past three weeks she has developed wheeze with shortness of breath. She also complains of on and off mid fever for last two weeks with evening raise of temperature. No evidence of chest pain or hemoptysis. No past history of pulmonary tuberculosis or allergic airway disease. Non diabetic and non-hypertensive.

General physical examination was normal. On auscultation there was reduced air entry with crackles in the right mid and lower zones. Rest of the systems was normal.

However, designing a safe and efficient delivery system in RNAi therapeutics remains challenging. Herein, we have designed and synthesized several linear peptides containing tryptophan (W) and arginine (R) residues separated by the β-alanine (βA) spacer and attached to a lipophilic fatty acyl chain, cholesterol, or PEG. Introduction: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) produce a broad spectrum of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) affecting various organ systems. While ICIs are established as a therapeutic option in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treatment, most patients receiving ICI relapse. Additionally, the role of ICIs on survival in patients receiving prior targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy has not been well-defined.

The increasing number and high prices of orphan drugs have triggered concern among patients, payers, and policymakers about the affordability of new drugs approved using the incentives set by the Orphan Drug Act (ODA) of 1983. This study evaluated the factors associated to the differences in the treatment cost of new orphan and non-orphan drugs approved by the FDA from 2017 to 2021. Background: This study compares treatment failure for patients who received oral beta-lactams (BLs) and fluoroquinolones (FQs) for stepdown treatment of Enterobacterales bloodstream infections (BSIs).

Methods: We conducted a single-center, retrospective, age- and sex-matched, cohort study, at a Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital in South Texas. Eligible patients were at least 18 years of age with a monomicrobial BSI treated with a single oral BL or FQ antibiotic. Treatment failure was defined as recurrence or all-cause mortality within 90 days of documented BSI. Background: Among the important key modulators of the tumor microenvironment and hypoxia is a family of enzymes named carbonic anhydrases. Herein, 11 novel sulfonamide–pyridine hybrids (2–12) were designed, synthesized and biologically evaluated for their potential use in targeting breast cancer. Methods & results: The para chloro derivative 7 reported the highest cytotoxic activity against the three breast cancer cell lines used. In addition, compound 7 was found to induce cell cycle arrest and autophagy as well as delaying wound healing.
